Another member of this list mentioned he considered writing his Senators and I thought it was a good idea and so I did. Here’s what I wrote and I encourage others to do the same. Might not make a difference but silence surely won’t. “Dear Senator Brown, I am writing to encourage you to consider efforts to remove nasal snuff from the restriction of the PACT Act. There is a ceremonial snuff box at the Senate building I understand and it is a form of tobacco use that doesn’t affect others. It is the only form of tobacco that isn’t implicated in oral or lung disease, it is a safe alternative to smoking and not anywhere near as expensive as pharmaceutical aids, it doesn’t appeal to children at all. By being restricted by the Act people who would like to get off cigarettes are deprived of a safe method of quitting smoking.”
As much as I applaud the effort, methinks there’s probably a better chance of cigars getting added to the act rather than anything being removed from it.
@roderick Are you suggesting that US politicians are as reasonable as EU politicians? I might buy that in a non-election year.
They can be very slow to change their official positions on things, even when scientific research implores them to. The US sure doesn’t have a perfect system.
I wrote several letters to both my Senators, my congressman and even the chair of the Senate committe that had the legislation before it went to a full floor vote. I think I got one reply, and it was a form letter more or less with no real stances on any position and with the BS non-commital phrase they always seem to attach, “I will keep your views in mind when voting on this legislation” Basically, I’m not a snuff lobbyist, just a joe schmo, so no need to listen. Don’t let me discourage anyone from trying though. They do keep those records of who and how many write. It might make a difference some day.
I’d love to hop on board here. I you dont make any noise then no ones gonna listen. Might as well give it a try.
At any rate it can’t hurt, even if theres bigger things on the agenda might as well make my voice heard too.
