It didn’t have a nicotine hit? As much as I love the scents I probably wouldn’t. The N hit is as important as the aroma for me. Edited by cstokes4. OW: Review the TOS.

B

I would use non tobacco snuffs when trying to quit snuff, other than that no.

S

First off, tobacco isn’t a drug, it’s a plant; the “drug” is nicotine.

T

Who knows? That isn’t an issue, so I will just keep on snuffing! I’ll put it this way though… if it DIDN’T have N in it, then I never would have started…

K

Probably not, no.

D

Yes. I have dreamed for years about nicotine-free tobacco. I love the smell, the flavor, and everything about it. I’m the same way with mint, oregano, cilantro, and catnip. I grow them, hang them in my house, sprinkle them in the fireplace for aroma, put them in teas, etc. Tobacco just happens to be taxed and regulated. OT? - I’m getting some bad juju off of all these threads with the drug references in them. This one doesn’t seem to have one, but it smells like someone has an agenda, or thinks we’re all talking about someone we’re not.

U

I like snuff like it is. For this it’s the reason, why I like coffee like it is (with caffein) and tea like it is (with teein). Tea ia tea, coffee is coffee and snuff is snuff. Perhaps not a really satisfying answer, but honest.

D

I personally don’t think snuff would even exist if it wasn’t for the nicotine. I’m sure tobacco isn’t the only herb that would smell nice if snuffed, but non-tobacco snuff is almost non existant (apart from the likes of snuffy weis) I can see the point of nicotine free snuff for people who want to quit, but these types of things came about as an adjunct to the nicotine version. I just don’t think snuff would have come about in the first place had it not been for nicotine. Sniffing powder up your nose for fun is a weird thing to do if you think about it… I’d like to add that I am also getting bad juju from this recent torrent of threads. There are plenty of forums dedicated to that sort of thing, and even though I am not a long standing regular member, I really don’t think snuffhouse is the right place for those kinds of discussions. We like snuff and the nicotine it provides, but this isn’t a forum for junkies.

What @Dogwalla said.

@doctorbeat There are plenty of non tobacco snuffs. The concept is more common in older societies than ours. South American Indians, who probably invented tobacco snuff, snuff all sorts of things. Some are simple medicinal herbs and some have psychotopic properties. This is repeated in many parts of the world, such as Africa and East Asia. You can even find some of these sometimes in your local health food stores. Do searches on the site, as we have had many discussions about these. I think goldenrod was involved in one of the health blends. DeKralingse offers two(or is it now three ?) non tobacco snuffs that have historical documentation in Europe. Their Mentholin is somewhat similar to the modern white snuffs, and the others are nice little herbal blends. Growing in popularity are the energy snuffs, which usually contain caffine and/or guarana. Feel free to talk about these here, just stay away from discussing anything illegal, as we do not wish snuff to be associated with illegal drugs. Don’t worry about the bad juju, guys. The mods are watching very closely.

B

Oh I forgot about the energy snuffs! I used those for a while. I was thinking about getting some for sitting through my lectures which I seem to fall asleep in.

H

Absolutely! My chief benefit from snuff is it’s decongestant properties.

L

Absolutely not! Although I enjoy the taste and the whole practice of snuffing, it would all feel rather hollow without the nicotine.

D

@Xander, yes I suppose you’re right. I guess what I meant is that (at least in the west) snuffing probably wouldn’t have persisted to this day had it not been for nicotine, and that had tobacco snuff not persisted, we probably wouldn’t have non nicotine snuffs either.

T

Probably not.

U

I am shure coffee would not have persisted to this day without the caffein and beer would not have persisted to today without malt…

E

I used snuff when nicotine was no big deal to me. I just liked that it made everything smell great. Would I have used it as much as I do today? Who knows? I’m just glad I get both.

S

There’s also the Xeufu and Thai herbal snuffs the Mr. Snuff sells, @Xander. I guess I’ll be the odd one out here, but I think if it weren’t tobacco, something else would’ve been snuffed that would have taken its place instead. Snuff is still popular as folk medicine around the world, and it’s how tobacco snuff got its start. If you translated the labels on the Xuefu and Thai herbal snuffs, you’d probably see something about alleged medical benefits to be had by those who take their snuff. I think I might still take snuff even without nicotine in it, as I do enjoy the scents and tradition of the product, and as it is now snus and dip have my tolerance high enough that there may as well not be any in it for me.

M

I believe this is hard for me, because I don’t get a nicotine craving. I do feel the effects of nicotine, but I am not sitting around thinking, geeze, I need some more vitamin N to get the heart going.

A

I wouldn’t. Snuff is very pleasant way of getting nicotine, as Cognac is for alcohol - but take the active ingredient away and you take away the reason for it to exist. I would never waste my nose’s time with sugar candy white snuff. Of course this is all IMHO.

D

Snuffster said it better than I could. I’m sure incense would smell nice if snuffed, but nobody does that… Edit: I’m sure now someone will come up with an example :oD What I mean is that it’s certainly not mainstream, even compared to snuff, which is itself rather an oddity nowadays in the west.

T

I find everything in snuff to be very pleasant. I enjoy it all…

G

@dogwalla…I understand your dilema on the matter. Truth is, tobacco is popular because it gave and always has, given the “BOOST” folks crave. some have less, some more. Humans are funny critters. we do what we should not. Crave what we should not, and have habits that we should break. snuff however is probably here to stay.

G

Ok, should have mentioned this long time ago. Back in 1973 while in the Air Force I was hospitalized with Pneumonia. Long time, 23 days…bad shape almost did the 'dirt nap" they cateloged all my stuff. including a snuff bullet ( one made of a 30.06 shell with spoon) and thought it to be something illegal. a cokesnuff product that was white, peppermint? It was not of course. but I never ever bought the white snuffs again…

A

@greybeard19 - you were using nasal snuff in 73 in the US? and with a bullet? You must have been one hell of a rare beast?

R

I probably wouldn’t bother with it. I’d probably just keep some nice tobacco leaves in a jar and stick my nose in it every so often.
