As far as I can tell Strasbourg is certainly an SP. I don’t know if you can tell for sure whether there is bergamot or not in there and I have never seen anybody assert an SP has to have bergamot. It’s a little hard to say in words what an SP is although if you have enough of them you will know one when you snuff it.
Strasbourg is very similar to Samuel Gawith’s SP No. 1 High Mill, so much so it’s often difficult to tell them apart.
That said, I do find the flavoring in Strasbourg much more agreeable than most mainstream SPs. More lemon and less of something else I don’t like.
You’re right, all the other SPs I own right now have bergamot in it so I confused it.
Grand Cairo is also full of bergamot, but not an SP right ?
Strasbourg reminds me a bit of WoS IHT #20. I have to try out the SG SP No.1 High Mill, at least the consistency should be different from the Strasbourg.
@Michael I’ll have to try the Strasbourg for the same reason. I have and love the SG SP no1 High Mill, and would love to try it in a different consistency. The SG is very dry and fluffy, identical moisture and grind (and, IMHO, base tobacco) as Viking Blonde.
I have not tried Grand Cairo so I can’t say. I think you made a keen observation on Wilsons #20. It is a very flavorful SP and does have a very similar style to their Strasbourg. I can’t remember the grind on SG’s High Mill but I remember I enjoyed it exceedingly. Can’t go wrong buying a tin of that if you like Strasbourg.
