Greetings, I’ve not been able to find much in searches about these three snuffs. Here’s what I have found: Gold Label uses Virginia tobacco in the base instead of Zimbabwe. SP2 and SP 100 may have variations in the moisture level and grind. Best SP is my favorite snuff, but I’m looking to choose one of these three snuffs to have as an additional all-day snuff. I’ve tried them in 5g tins, but they seemed old and dry so I don’t feel like I have actually tried them as they are meant to be. I can’t afford to order all three in bulk and really give them a good ‘fresh-milled’ taste, so I’m requesting some guidance from the learned group. Which of the above three snuffs would you recommend as a back-seat companion to Best SP that is different enough to be a subtle, yet refreshing change? I’m leaning toward Gold Label, but wanted to get some opinions first. Thanks in advance, Dennis
Just my opinion but if you like the Sp’s like best sp,sp2,and sp 100 I would say order Wilson’s Tom Buck. Its similar to those and I would say its the halfway snuff between the ones previously mentioned and gold label. Don’t get me wrong, if you can order both gold label and grand Cairo. They are in my top 10. If you can’t order bulk order a 25g tin. I’ve found a big difference between the 25g tins and the lesser gram tins in regards to freshness. Make sure you pick up some glass jars with good airtight lids to store them in. They will stay fresh for a very long time compared to the tins.
Gold Label is the most distinctive as far as I can tell. Haven’t tried SP 100 but I know SP 2 is a little lighter in the scenting and I like it a lot. I’d say Gold Label is the way to go if you want something considerably different than Best SP.
Gold Label has a slight floral component to it, I wouldn’t call it an SP. If your looking for a straight bergamot flavour then GL probably isn’t for you, its still a great snuff though.
I’d say SP100 and if you like bergamot then go for Tom Buck. Hell, I just bought a pound of it from Dave. It’s great stuff!
Yes…
I went through a tin of SP100 a while back an liked it, but I can’t remember a thing about it other than that. Not much help I suppose.
I don’t think you can go wrong if it’s WoS and an SP. If you want something totally different that still has bergamot (in the background) try Best Dark. You know what? Just friggin try Best Dark regardless of what you’re looking for.
If you haven’t had it in 25 gram tins then you will be happy with any of the above. There is no rush , enjoy them as you go. Just store them proper. Fresh is best.
SP100 is my favourite. Stefan
Gold Label is clearly an SP, and would be my choice for distinctiveness vice Best SP. WoS states that both snuffs are identical in every way except for the type of tobacco used. The Virginia taste is quite distinct in Gold Label. Also worth honorable mention are the other SPs from WoS that you may wish to try at some point, SS and SP Silver.
Not a Wilson’s product but I also think McC sp is definitely worth ordering as well
I’ve never (in my experience, so far) found a place selling SP silver to the US. Does anybody these days?
@Mr_O I got mine through trades. I think Whalen bought a case of it during Wilson’s big grand opening webshop sale. My Smoking Shop has it also. I think both places will ship to the US, just won’t take US credit card. If you can do bank transfer and are serious enough there is a way.
Xander- thanks for the info. I guess I don’t want it bad enough to really go out of my way, a bit curious though…
Well, at the end of the day its just Best SP with a finer grind. If you’re a disturbed/obsessed collector like me that means I have to try it at least once. I did put a couple tins in the cellar though.
Then it’s not essential to me…oh well…
Personally for me, you can’t go wrong with Best and 100. Best is bergamot, 100 has a slight lemon hint to it. Both are utterly fantastic and are the two I use daily. Whichever you get, buy it direct from Wilsons of Sharrow shop, its cheap and fresh.

Sadly that option is no longer available to anyone outside the EU :((
Ah, shame. I stand corrected.
@MR_O, I had to buy an entire box from Wilsons just to get some.
grand Cairo is probably my favourite SP but would be lost without some of the other great SPs inc Best SP.
I have trouble calling Grand Cairo an SP, its not plain enough.
totally understand @xander.
Whalen- gotcha. Was it worth it?
