Any opinions on which WoS snuff would be the closest to McChrystal’s O&G in flavour, texture and grind?
Of the WoS flavors I’ve tried, I’d say SM Blue comes closest to O&G. Someone with more experience of the WoS product line may have a better idea, though.
Although I’m out right now and is hard to compare one on one, it seemed to me that Camphor & Mild was pretty darn close…
I dont think theres nothing really close to O&G from WOS You can try SM Blue or SM Gold (both with camphor) but they are very dif from O&G for me
I experimented a while ago and found that mixing SM Blue, Camphor & Mild and Tom Buck in equal proportions produces an approximation. Not the same of course but not far removed and definitely tasty.
I picked up most of the WoS Menthols recently. None really seem to approximate it even closely. A mixture as ermtony suggests may be the closest way to dupliacte it. O&G seems to have less actual menthol than the various Wilsons blends so blending with non menthols such as Camphor & Mild, Tom Buck, etc. might tame them a bit. On a related note, I’m pretty sure SM Gold and Dean Swift Dr. Johnson are the same or nearly the same. Also one of these is remarkably similar to JIP! but I haven’t narrowed it down. I’m having a hard time picking out the differences in some of these, as they can be rather subtle. 5 SM blends and 4 “Menthol” blends altogether. I’m suprising myself by finding SM 500 in the leading postion as my favorite of the bunch. Of course we must wait for the race to end to declare a winner.
It’s been a while since I had a tin, but I seem to recall SM Brown being the tamest of the Wilsons in the menthol department and hence the closest to O&G. Agreed that it’s still not very similar though.
Id say FUBAR medic is as good, which I know is not what you asked and also to my taste pretty similar.
IMO SM Blue would be closest only it is sharper on the menthol and no citrus undertones. Stefan

Walrus 1985 no citrus undertones? Really man noses are so diffrent. Then again I always pick up a citrus undertone with menthol and camphor. Even in my home many disapointing experiments.
Thanks a lot for the insights guys. Will try some of these on my next order. Still looking for the ONE. You know, enough N to really satisfy without making you sick, enough menthol to cool things down well and enough other stuff to be interesting enough to keep one guessing and intrigued. Maybe like bpb68 said, there’s O&G and there’s that which is not. I’ve only had one tin of it so far, but I went thru it in one and a half days. Could not get enough and for the life of me I couldn’t say why.
I don’t think there’s any snuff like O&G. Strong tobacco base with perfect balance of menthol, camphor and citrus scents and that’s it.
OnG really is one of kind imho. There is that ineffable something about it. Maybe they borrowed from the ORIGINAL coca cola recipe LOL
I can’t compare it to O&G, but Sparrow Cool might have the things you’re looking for. I am not really a menthol fan, but I always have some Sparrow Cool handy. Dholakia Aniseed Menthol is very good as well.
I saw that Mr Snuff has it in bulk and cans, why not order a boat load, Canada duty problem? It is one of a kind IMHO, although my nose will not tolerate the menthol. OOps! Just reread your last post. I will be forever looking for the “one”, but I have a ton of almost the one snuffs to console me in the meantime. And I think there always has to be the next one, or in truth, several different ones. I cannot just snuff one variety all day long.
WOS SM blue and 500 are both much stronger than O&G. To me a match in strength is Honey Menthol, but the flavour is much different.
Whalen I was going to do just that, but Dave finds MO’s troublesome though not impossible, and it’s a bit complex operation to get it done. If I can’t find it somewhere rather easier to order from, I may well go back to him and jump the hoops. It’s hard living a 19th century lifestyle in the 21st…
I basically live in a woods-bound hermitage and using this here 'uter is about the only new-fangled compromise I’ve managed.
