Gold Label Vintage? What is that? I LOVE GL and I have a Tripletech that’s filled to the brim with this FINE US Virginia SP. I LOVE it. HOWEVER I’ve never heard of Gold Label Vintage… Where can I get it and what is it like? Is that just a reference to the old ‘recipe’ WoS used to use? I’m referring to a post @cstokes4 just made.

C

Many of those snuffs are no longer made, I would assume that GLV is one of them.

Darn. Thanks for explaining bud!

The only one I knew was a Tranter’s. It was labelled ‘Gold label: vintage:1980’. It was a plain, mellow snuff - quite like a Toque natural that had sat for years. Tranter’s snuffs, of course, are made by WoS so if you are prepared to wait just leave some Best SP in a jar for 30 years! I think I donated mine to Roderick for research purposes as memory serves.

Sounds like the one Tranter’s sell (produced for them by Wilson’s of Sharrow). http://www.cigar-connoisseur.co.uk/acatalog/moist\\_snuff.html (Scroll down a bit on that page). I’ve had it before. Very tasty indeed. My comments (from my site): “This is a gentle SP on a really good tobacco base. It’s quite moist so easy to take and sits very comfortably in the nose. In colour it is a rich mid-brown. There is no flavouring according to the Tranter’s web site but the light citrus/bergamot seems obvious enough to me. Perfect as an all day snuff.”

Thats the self same I think, barring the vintage bit.

@transistor: I’m curious as to where you heard about it. Can you say? Mars used to sell Gold Label under the name Gold Label Vintage. All I can guess is that it was a batch that had been kept stored somewhere for a long time. I had a tin of it from them, and another Gold Label from elsewhere (the tins were more or less identical). The Mars one was not nearly as tasty. McGahey’s apparantly sells both names (if its two snuffs, who can say?) http://www.the-tobacconist.co.uk/snuff/snuff\\_search.asp Hopefully someone can verify this.

S

He found it on cstokes4’s snuff list.

Oh, That’s actually Alex’s snuff list from 2007 cut and pasted. Some of the names in there are incorrect and some are just copied from other lists (some of which are really old or speculative). Tonight I’ll work on the list to kind of update it and make it more practical.

Yep, got it from my hack of a cut-n-paste job!

“The only one I knew was a Tranter’s. It was labelled ‘Gold label: vintage:1980’.” That was a very good snuff, sold in tins identical to those of F&T but with a paper label. I know because I still have a tin left, found when rummaging up in my loft. Must have been up there for 25 years or more.

T

@xander correct, I was referring to cstokes list it all makes sense now though thanks guys I LOVE GL taking some now. That Virginia scent and bergamot is simply perfect imo

X

@Filek: yes that explains why you both have some of the same typos. The new list will not attempt to be an ultra-super-mega-snuff list. But I do want it to be as complete as possible for contemporary snuffs.

@Maciej, whatever happened to Andy? I know snufftalk is gone now, are you still in contact with him? If so tell him I said Ay Up! Stefan
