I know alot of us buy alot of snuff. Of course some we find better than others, to our personal tastes. But has there been any snuffs that you just thought was downright terrible? One that you felt was so bad that you vowed to never use it again, wanting to give it away, or throw it out? Today I realized I have one. All my snuffs are either good, real good, or OK. But I got one yesterday, that is really bad, at least to me. The initial flavor may not seem bad, but it turns into a very bad aftertaste, that even after snuffing many others afterward, and drinking even, it is still with me. I am speaking of: QWS Jasmine If anyone wants this, wants to trade for it, wants a sample of it, whisper me. I will never use this again, and I’m glad I only paid $1.99. Another one that’s on the fence as I write this is Dholakia Sparrow Cool.
I didn’t like sparrow cool when I first got it, now it’s one of my favorites! Give it some time!
I will. It’s so super dry, and barely any menthol. But the Jasmine. Anyone else have this, is the bad aftertaste just in my tub? Now I do like the QWS Smokers Blend, and Irish Coffee. I am unsure of the Sandalwood. And I haven’t tried the Ice Cool, is it the same as the Rockit Ice Cool, which is OK.
Sparrow cool is one I like, which is odd for me as don’t like menthol. The worst snuff I have ever had - cheap, nasty, smelling of cow dung - is Taxi.
I agree with you there snuffster. Either Taxi Red or Menthol would take the title of worst snuff for me. Although the Taxi Rock is actually pretty good.
I ordered a tin of Taxi blue and Taxi spearmint but didnt arrived yet so i cant tell about it .but the worst snuff i have ever had was Poschl Chief Bull
tom502 - No thanks on the Jasmine myself, and with the Sparrow Cool, you only notice it when you go a couple of days without any other menthols. It’s in there. I would’ve also given away Gletscher Prise, but used it in a mix instead. Nicotine Rush really did me a service offering the sweet sample packs… some were like sugar on shredded paper.
I have had the same feelings about the W.O.S. Jasmine but not with the same resolve. I put it in a beautiful Chinese inside painted snuff bottle. I have a spoonful every now and again in place of F&T’s Seville when that mood strikes. The geranium in Princes made me sick the fist time I had it in my nose. Now it is one of my favorite scents. I don’t think I would throw ANY snuff out but then I have in fact found myself snuffing spills off the floor.
Not sure which is the absolute worst. But I don’t like: Magnet Peach, Gawith Apricot, Rockit Cherry Pop, Dean Swift Jasmine. I’m on the fence about QWS Sandalwood too. Basically anything that tastes artificially flavored. Still I haven’t thrown these out. I will try again, and again. There are probably a good 50 in my collection I’d never get again, though they are not neccesarily bad.
tom502, I think the QWS Jasmine is one of the best floral snuffs out there. Its nearly identical to the real thing. For me, I would have to say GH Jockey Club. Its like I got hit by every perfume sniper at the mall and every blast went right into the mouth & up the nose. Horrible chemical old lady perfume fresh hair perm smell. And it won’t leave the nose with blowing, you have to rinse & repeat many times.
This is a good idea for a thread, i’ve had one or two snuffs that i’ve used a few times then thrown out because I couldn’t get on with them: - All menthol snuffs with the exception of Toque Menthol (they’re nice but they make my nose run like a tap except Toques one) - Toque Espresso (I normally love coffee flavoured snuffs but this one failed to impress) - Wilsons Apricot (too sweet) - Dholakia (Don’t like any of them) - Fribourg & Treyer ‘Seville’ (I didn’t throw it out but I traded it for another of the F&T range, I just couldn’t get on with it) As someone else has said here I have had snuff in the past which I used to ‘hate’ not because of the flavour but because I couldn’t have a pinch without sneezing but now my technique has improved they are some of my firm favourites, two of such are: - F&T ‘High Dry Toast’ and McChrystals ‘Mild Lemon’
Well, tastes can change very rapidly sometimes and you just start liking something you used to hate, its happened to me many times…doubt that I’ll ever get over my loathing of Taxi though.
QWS makes the best Jasmine? I’ve been doing the Jasmines lately. Seeking the best one as a keeper. Wilson’s-good. Dean Swift-bad. Gawith Hoggarth-on order. QWS you say. hmmmmm… I must investigate…
This one is easy for me it has to be WOS Royal George, hidiously sweet talcum powder smell. Horrible. Stefan
The Sparrow Cool isn’t “bad” it’s just dryer than the driest HDT or scotch I have ever seen.
Lotzbeck Perle. Hideous. Wilson’s French Carotte is another that I can’t stomach.
Easy one for me, Toque Pomegranate. This is the only snuff I’ve tried that makes me feel queasy. Poschl Gawith Apricot has a similar, but much milder effect on me. I now avoid sweet fruit snuffs.
I personally like the Toque Pomegranate more than the Grapefruit. Certain bitter, acidic fruits don’t seem to make a good snuff, my personal taste of course.
I have yet to find a snuff which I really don’t like at all.
packards would need a gun to my head to snuff it. Though there is one worse. Fish scent snuff now that sucked. I left a tin open up at work (I worked at a semi-fancy restaruant that served a lot of fish.) and it absorbed the scent. Horrid horrid. It was a natural snuff that wasn’t too bad at all actualy.
I personally do not like Wilsons Crumbs of Comfort at all.
I mentioned i mixed the Gletscher Prise for not really being impressed, but I play with the notion that there are “Clean” snuffs and “Dirty” snuffs. Like Ozona President is clean and Gletscher Prise is dirty. Or the trick with the Ozona fruits is chase it with Red Seal. Am I off the farm on this one?
I would consider Gletscher Prise a “clean” snuff. It’s pure menthol and columbia oil, and has a clean taste. That’s just my .02 though.
I love Gletscher Prise.
Gletscher Prise…it’s good and clean and fresh, tra la la !! One of my firm favourites. I like President as well but it makes my nose run like a tap.
Not overfond of Gletscher Prise, but the worst snuff hands down for me is Gawith Hoggarth Strawberry. Horrible Shake ‘N’ Vac scent. Yuck.
Lotzbeck’s Perle and Premium mild both are like snuffing something dead to me. G&H Jockey Club has so much burn and the scent is fake I can’t stand it. I would not even consider the Wilsons for a long time because of it. I am glad ya’ll talked me into trying it. I now use the Wilsons on a regular basis now.
I can tolerate the Premium Mild, but the Perle is like sniffing stale saw dust.
Of the 15 I’ve tried in my relatively limited snuffing ‘career’, I have to say that the Dholakia Apple Pie is my LEAST favorite. Since I got it as a sample in early March, I’ve probably tried it 4 times and each time put it away for a week or longer…easily forgotten. To my nose it’s just too spicy, and primarily cloves. If it were ham and cloves with a little pineapple added, I might like it more.
The Dholakia Sandalwood is on the fence. But I don’t “hate” it.
Either Wilson’s Gold label or Dholakia Wine and cheese. Both of which were extremely disapointing as i was looking forward to them.
Yes, I did not fall in love with either the Dry Orange nor the Wall Flower. Mixed it in with some other snuff eventually. I must admit that, at the stage when I tried them, I was still battling to sniff dry snuff and it went flying straight down my throat. But I will rather stay clear of them, I have enough very nice products to use.
Dholakia Sparrow Cool has to be the dryest dry snuff I ever sniffed. I’m still on the fence with this one, because I can tell it has a nice flavor and a coolness to it, but I can’t really sniff it to experience that.
To be brutally honest I agree with Filek all the American snuffs I have tried I’ve not really liked. I’ve tried 4 WE Garrett, Levi Garret, Square and Stokers Plain, I couldn’t tell the difference between them, they are very one dimensional, just a horrible smokiness which I just couldn’t get on with. I have also tried Garretts Sweet while a little bit more appealing than its Scotch brother it still didn’t float my boat. Stefan
Put 'em in your mouth. Now since I recently did get some DHT, I do see a similarity, but I much prefer the toast. But I also can see a plain toast lover liking the plain scotches.
Of the eight or so Gawith Hoggarth snuffs I’ve tried, the only one I can just about stomach is the Irish D. Their Fleurette and Jockey Club nearly made me retch.
I love Gawith Hoggarth Fleurette and most of their other varieties. I suppose different snuffs appeal to different people.
disregard…wrong topic
I’ve found that I can’t get into the florals or American products. I like Rooster well enough, but the one tin I have will last me a LONG time.
@ hoss: try Maccoboy. Its floral AND American! Actually, its not as floral as something like Fluerette. But as American snuffs go, its a breed apart.
Tom 502, would you please try Taxi as dip and post some comments? I would be most interested in your point of view on this matter.
- Tia Maria, which to me tastes not even remotely of tobacco - a chemically tasting nightmare! 2) Ozona President - just plain aweful! 3) Gletscher Prize, which must have been created by people, who seriously hate tobacco!
Juxt- well, I am sorry to disappoint, but I must decline. I stopped dipping, and the only dip I liked was the scotches, as I never liked the coarse cut of Skoal type dips. I do agree the Taxi does appear similar, with it’s moisture and grind, and I just don’t like stuff like that on my gums. But why not try it yourself?
Taxi is not designed for oral use.
You could still put it your mouth if you wanted to.
I suppose you could, but it would be a waste of a fine snuff.
I agree.
I’ve gave this topic a good thought and if I must name a snuff which I will never buy again, it’s Medicated No99
Finally, one Pieter doesn’t like! Is that from J&H Wilson, Pieter?
I stuck some Taxi Menthol (Green) in my mouth after a suggestion from someone here. That was the worst experience I have ever had with snuff. It felt like mud, and tasted worse. Bad Bad idea.
I’m not a big fan of the Taxi Menthol. I love the Red/Blue and Rock. The menthol just doesn’t work with the bush-esque taste of Taxi. I did put a few grains of Taxi Red in my lip, very nasty.
I like Taxi Rock as dip but different strokes for different folks. Then again I like snuffing it when it is dry better.
I don’t like the Taxi Snuffs. The english floral stuff is horrible aswell. The only ones I like are the Seville,Princess Special and Bordeaux. I’m more the plain-snuff-lover and sometimes a metholated sniff, that’s it.
Xander yes, that’s the one, J&H Wilson’s. I bought this snuff only because it’s available in SA. If that should become the only snuff I can get I will use it. But, up till then, I’d rather avoid it.
Viking, add a bit of SG Black Coffee to the Tia Maria and you have Cafe Royale!!!
Xander, today I bought some snuff which, after 3 pinches, I flushed down in the toilet!! TAXI MENTHOL SNUFF. Only problem is, they ran out of MENTHOL, so they added DETTOL in stead. This is the worst concoction I’ve ever had up my nose. Pure, clean Dettol sh-t.
What’s Dettol? I’ve been curious to someday try the Taxi menthol. I just did a sniff of Wilson(SA) Menthol.
Dettol is a brand of disinfectant, popular in Britain. Must be horrible to snuff.
The Taxi Menthol is horrid. Taste terrible.
Pieter> Perhaps so, but I don’t care much for Cafe Royale either. I find it greatly overrated I must admit.
The snuff’s that I find that I do not really care for are fruity and flavors like coke and chocolate. But I think the one that I would never by again is an apricot, I do not really care for it at all.
so far i didn’t find a snuff that i truly hate; there are some that i like more than others but that doesn’t mean i hate those that i enjoy less… it is interesting how your taste changes in time; first time i opened a tin of Taxi Red i was like wtf but i guess my brain decided that the vitamin N in that tin is good so now i’m totally in love with TAXI NTSU and other similar smelly snuffs… the only one i truly didn’t like so far was Toque Absinthe and that’s not because its a bad snuff; is just me i’m sure. the flavor is just too strong for my taste and ironically this one is maybe one of the few Toque snuffs that has a long lasting flavor… Oh, wait there is one snuff i truly hated and that was one i tried to make from American Spirit nail coffins and flavored with orange extract… never again…bad bad experiment…lol
Sun - Rangeeli, really odd stuff.
only one I really don’t like is McChrystal’s Violet, was like sticking a bar of soap up my nose or something
I can’t do QWS Jasmine either. It’s not bad, it just makes me feel like I’ve buried my head in a tub of cat litter.
The one snuff that I really dislike is Toque Cheese & Bacon
Manjul …but hate cloves altogether…
I haven’t tried Taxi Red in the mouth but I can tell you that NTSU yellow top makes an excellent dip. At first I hated American scotches (rooster, w.e.g.), but after I day I began to see the appeal though I’d still far rather dip them. The two snuffs I cannot bear at all are Posch Gawith Cola (mine had a cheesy scent that nauseated me) and GW Sea Breezes. I know a lot of people love Sea Breezes but to me it smells exactly like Comet–that blue-green abrasive stuff I used to clean my sink. I like the smell of Comet, but not as a snuff.
I hated Sun Rangeeli, QWS Jasmine, and WoS French Carrote
I just can’t do Dholakia Ganga. Smells of scented tampons to me. My girlfriend loves it, though.
I, too, hated wasn’t overly fond of couple of aforementioned snuffs. Namely, Pomegranate and Apricot by Toque. Sweet Apricot aroma changes to something rank when it hits my nose. It’s quite odd. Same thing happens with McC’s Apricot. My problem with Pomegranate lies in probably in some repressed memory from the orphanage or a Guatemalan jail.
My issue with Toque Apricot and Peach is that they last too long for me. If I take one pinch, I can smell it all day. I’m going to order a few 25g tins of Quit to mix them with 50/50, hopefully that will cut down on the overly sweet scent.
I used to love Jaxson Toffee because it lasted so long, but now I don’t care for it for the same reason.
I just got a my second toque order. the only snuff i´m not enjoying is apricot. i ordered it because of several positive reviews and suggestions. all i can say about it is: it smells like slightly soured milk. maybe i got a bad tin? I´m new at this, but judging from all the other toques, they don’t send bad product. The smell for me is like i said stale milk, in the beer world we would call this a lactic acid note. it’s really strong in my apricot. maybe it just needs to breath? I know the toques go for a natural vibe and I love the raspberry for example, but I can’t get in to the apricot. any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
I think the only one I’ve actively disliked so far is QWS Jasmine. There are more than a few that don’t particularly suit my tastes, but I don’t really consider them bad, just not for me.
One of the funny things about snuff is that even most of the snuffs I don’t like I can easily imagine someone else being very into them. I have also read reviews that gave a snuff a low rating but the discription said to me good snuff and have ended up enjoying them alot.
Thats very true bob. If our noses where the same and we all liked, and hated the same snuff. Then there would not be over 300 different flavours out there.
The worst one for me is Crumbs Of Comfort.
In general I’ve found I only like menthols on occasion. I like the clean cool rush and the scent well enough, but I’m one of those people whose schnozz reacts to the menthol and firmly seals up after a few go-rounds. I obtained a few WoS and McC menthols in a trade, and I don’t mind a pinch now and again from them, but I’ll probably use them up and not buy menthols again.
If anyone considers methylated spirits, gunpowder and industrial solvent mixed in and drunk from a gun-barrel to be a nice cocktail then they would probably enjoy Red Bull snuff - and vice versa. Years ago an acquaintance offered me a taste from a natty little red plastic box which I only sampled on insistence as I knew it was going to be foul. It was worse than foul. Indeed, if all the sea was ink and all the sky was paper there would not be space enough to describe how egregious this ‘snuff’ is. Apart from nearly vomiting it took repeated attempts at nasal douche to cleanse away the taste. Vicarious synthetic menthol, rancid paraffin oil and vile tobacco are its chief characteristics. If any snuff, like Lucifer, has fallen from high estate to wallow in sulphur and brimstone then it goes by the name of Red Bull. The real wonder is that people actually buy this dreadful stuff.
Some people love it. I have never tried it and am not curious.
There are a few I didn’t really like (Toque Natural, the Polsch/Ozonas) but the WORST snuff I have had was Dholakia Black. It smells like rotting cheese.
I’ve never had really bad snuff but don’t really like Gawith Hoggarth tobacco bases.
Lotzbeck Perle was by far the most terrible snuff I have ever tried. There are plenty I don’t care for, and plenty I just don’t like…but this was just…awful. I can’t even imagine someone enjoying this. ~Ken
@Snuffy- I haven’t heard too many good things about Lotzback but coming from you, I believe it. You have great taste in snuff.
I’ve heard that the perle is awesome if it isn’t dried out. If it is dried out it’s a nightmare. The premium is great very waffle syrup awesome when it’s dried it’s like a weak menthol that kind of sucks. Fresh is amazing with the lotzbecks.
Dholakia Black is my least favorite. Moments after sniffing i am inclinded to check the bottoms of my shoes for dog doo. I say least favorite b/c i still vist it from time to time, my tastes change w/the tides i guess.
Cheese and bacon, checkerberry, Blast cola…all 3 are nasty but the checkerberry and blast cola send me into a gagging nausea. the cheese and bacon i find just plain ol’ rude in my nose. I keep expecting it to be more like a bacon cheeseburger, which it isnt anything close.
LOl, I felt the same way about DB. But after a while I got it. It is still at best a once in a while snuff for me, whereas the DW is a daily. I have some Dean Swifts that I really can’t take. And an Indian Rose one that is so strong and cloying, I cannot bear to take it.
the most disgusting snuff i have ever had is fribourg and treyer High Dry Toast…
there is no difference between this snuff and burning plastic …i will never ever have a toast again, I am nearly throwing up just remmebering the taste.
Temptation Purple Passion. Smells like I just puked up grape juice.
@eblip that’s how it smells to me right now and I have a cold. Not sure what to infer
from that, just weird.
yes bob …although they arent that nice…im just gonna focus on the kendal brown and black rupee…at the end of the day you get a proper hit from these…and no frills whatsoever…from leaf to cure to ground to my nose…no frills PROPER BACKY…not gonna get into these fancy frilly savory things any more …that toast stuff ruined the party for me…now im into my hard tobacco no frills …and i found out how to snuff them…just put a lump on a credit card and breathe it in slowly and rest and it gives a good hit .
SG Keswick,
I could not take WOS Chilli a Chocolate
SG Firedance. Smells exactly like berry Kool-aid to me.
Toque strawberry I think. I won’t know for sure until all I am left with is toque strawberry, berwick brown and f&t princes special. None of them inspire me to go back to them. I plan on staying away from all fruits and florals in the future.
Qsnuff Jasmine, and I really wanted to like it
Samuel Gawith Fire dance was a big disappointment. As Love Celtic Talisman and don’t mind Elmos Reserve. So I was hoping I would like it. Fire dance has a bananaish aroma in it that I hate.
I didnt like Gawith Original the apricot one :-&
Elmos reserve is disgusting to me. So is Whiskey and honey.
I liked USA W&H, but Elmo’s was awful.
Sun Sher closely followed by anything apricot.
samuel gawith menthol black (now SGM I think). Didn’t like it compared to the other snuffs in my 1st order like HDT and WS 22 or WS Honey Menthol. The coarse grind was unwieldy in the nose and the flavor was uninteristing. I couldn’t keep it in my nose and I never felt the nic either. Whole thing was a bust
For me it has to be Toque Almond Toast.
I get no base tobacco at all or maybe just a whiff if I focus a lot on finding one (probably placebo effect :)) ) and I cant stand this candy almond flavor.
I have 100g in a jar because I thought I would liked it and was mislead from probably newbie reviewers who raved about it for the toastyness and the tobacco that blends with almond nut aroma but no, just almond flavor like those for pastry and no tobacco aroma at all.
I have those 100g sitting there for 4 years , trying a pinch every 3 months or so in hope I would finally like it. The more I try it the more disgusted I get about it. :-&
On the other hand Toque Whiskey & Honey USA is a great example of flavored toast that I can clearly get the toasty tobacco aromas beside the flavoring.
In no particular order: Green Dragon, Wall, Super Kailash, Viking Blonde and Celtic Talisman.
Looks like I’ve been lucky with my orders! And I’ll be avoiding TAXI and the American snuffs after reading this thread.
Elmos Reserve, for me too, just something god awful about it, threw the tin away three years after I purchased it, it didn’t get better.
Controversial choice for me but it has to be GH’s Otterhound/burn changing the name didn’t help this snuff. Although some regarded it very highly, I just couldn’t get along with it - like snuffing dog shampoo :-&
I don’t like Andechs from Pöschl. The sweet herbal aroma hits my stomach.
I’m a newbie snuffer at three years, on and off,but the only snuff so far I haven’t liked is snuv back in black . Maybe it will grow on me at a later date . Has a dirty poopy smell in the nose and an artificial sweetness
