OK - all of us are guys evidently. Do women take snuff? My wife smokes but absolutely refuses to try snuff. Any reasoning for this (other than, according to her, its a man thing and a nasty thing for a woman to do). I know in the 16th through the 19th century, women took snuff. When did this become a man thing?

B

When did anything become a man thing? I don’t really get man or woman things. I mean you encounter them all over the place but most of them seem so gosh darn arbitariy especialy considering that there are lots of things that genuinly diffriantiate men from woman. Not knocking anyone I just don’t get doing something or not doing something because it’s manily or feminine. Heck there isn’t even a standard for standing or sitting when you take the world into account.

S

There’s a picture of an attractive Indian woman taking snuff on the Dholakia website. Bravo to them.

B

I agree with mountain man which is why I’am going to make the shittiest snuff ever then use force to coerce Ben Affleck (or who ever the kids think is cool now) to use my snuff very publicly.

A

We have a big Indian sub continent community in the UK and they are some of the biggest snuffers - women do it a lot but I think very privately. Most newspaper/tobacco shops in the UK are Asian owned and the majority seem to sell Wilson’s SP - they are usualy called ‘corner shops’ and there are loads of them about. There is a big oral tobacco use amongst Indian people and I think a lot use it this way. They have some incredible stuff called ‘pahn’ which is a wad of leaf and stuff better tasted than described, and some of my asian collegues have turned me on to it - mindblowing. I was out with a mixed group on Saturday night in an Indian restaurant and brought out my snuff box, after we had consumed several bottles of wine. The snuff, and my demonstration, was good entertainment but no-one tried it - but I was the only tobacco user. The overall view was eccentric as opposed to anything derogatory, but Brits are all eccentric in one way or another so whose to say…

T

There are some wives/girlfriends of forum members here who partake in snuff.

M

My girlfriend tries most of my snuffs and after a glass of wine or two always asks for a pinch of Cherry Menthol. Though she makes me turn away when she has a sniff!

S

What with makeup, manicures, periods, childbirth, toilet training, applying disgusting smelly substances to their hair or worse – depilatory treatments, for most women, life is quite messy enough without adding snuff to the mix. The matter of hankies could get terribly complicated in a woman’s mind, requiring a consideration of which shoes, belt, bag, etc to look “coordinated.” Thank goodness there are still some pleasures that don’t appeal much to women. Be careful what you ask for. It gives us men a chance to be with our kind - to drink a bit in excess of what’s polite in mixed company, to snuff up a storm or even take a chew or dip. If a gent lights up a stinky cigar, I say more power to 'em. Oh, and if you really want your sweetie to take up snuff the surest way is to absolutely forbid it.

A

I like it men only. I consider myself pretty non sexist on the whole, but I dont want women there at everything I do, so male snuffing suits me fine. A few people were giving up smoking in my wifes office so I sent along a few tins, non threatening stuff like Gawith in flip top cans, the men gave it a go but the girls all said it was not lady like. My wife hated the smell to begin with, but now likes it. They’re a funny bunch women

W

While I was in hospital last week, an asian nurse would have a pinch of my snuff to finish her shift with. She loved Spanish Jewel btw, and SP100, which I took in with me.

M

To me, it’s no surprise that sticking tobacco up your nose does not appeal to women.

T

Same reason you don’t see very many women who dip/chew. One of my old girlfriends in high school did actually like copenhagen on occasion which was alright because I was a heavy dipper. And she absolutely loved the smell of it. She would hold that can up to her nose and smell it like it was a flower. She was a cowgirl though, raised on a farm with 3 brothers who all dipped. Wasn’t your avg. girly girl who gossips all day, covers themselves in makeup and has to go window shopping in all their free time. She liked to hunt & fish.

A

There is an extremely pretty lady using snuff and sneezing on youtube at the moment

O

snuffster do you have a link?

M

snuffster i would like to see that too.

A

Sorry guys, I am am backward at IT. I just typed in snuff taking on youtube uk and there she blows

T

Its right here. Also on the Wilsons & the Zuka video have women trying snuff. Girl Using Snuff

O

Thanks for the link Trout.

Y

Damn, she almost looks like one of my ex’s

T

Well I’m a woman and I like taking snuff! I don’t really see how or where gender comes into it; as has been pointed out before, many women used snuff in it’s heyday, and a lot of my female friends seem to have a granny who liked a pinch or two! The brown snot/hankie thing doesn’t bother me either, and I’m not bothered if the hankie is ‘co-ordinated with my outfit’ - it’s a hankie, for Chrissakes! Sorry, snuffster if you feel I might be intruding on your boy’s club ;-)(that’s tongue in cheek, by the way!), but I do what I like, and no-one’s going to tell me Jack! Mind you, people say I look boyish anyway, so what the hey…

V

Snuff girls are incredibly hot…

P

What about Kim and Trix, they are members here and they are LADIES!!! Kim even writes reviews!!! Check it out.

V

Kim & Trix?.. HOT…

W

My wife, my brother’s wife, my wife’s sisters, my grand aunt, my cousin’s wife, my girl cousin, my uncle’s wife… None are regular snuffers but when i offer, they rarely decline… Sometimes they ask to get some… Especially when they see some new stuff in my hand… By the way, some of them smoke, some don’t…

D

Yup…I’m one of the few women on here…Aside from satisfying my craving for nicotine, I find snuff as a great diet aid! When I’m craving chocolate, I use chocolate snuff instead! As for the brown snot, I think that’s a much better trade-off than black lungs and coughing up nasty stuff from cigarettes. Also, I’m not sure those classic blue and red hankies match ANYONE’S outfits! hahaha! I guess I was destined to be a snuff user, just took me many years to discover it; when I was a baby one of my first ER visits was from ingesting Tide powder laundry detergent! LOL!!!

A

Hey Toffeenose, no I don’t mind you being in the boys club at all. I do like male only things, just in the same way that a lot of girls like girl only stuff - ya know, sometimes its just nice to hang out with your own sex . Anyway, I like girls so much I even married one, so you are welcome and I hope you stay around a long time hon.

T

Hi Snuffster, Cheers for the welcome, and thanks for taking my comment in the spirit it was intended! Yeah I know that sometimes it’s nice to hang with your own, definitely. And hello to zzedo310 & all the other female snuffers on the forum - it’s nice to have some company! Funnily enough zzedo310, I find the same thing happens to me when I snuff Swiss Chocolate - I don’t feel the need to eat any. Hasn’t happened with Toque Peanut Butter yet, lol.

P

Agree with you Snuffster. The very first human being I met right after I was born was my mother. I loved her at first sight and ever since then, I loved ALL female human beings. And it’s still like that, 64½ years later!!!

A

Cheers Debbie, and welcome zzedo310, some of these screen names are weird! I hope you too stay around in this excellent forum. And Pieter, yes they are God’s own creatures. Most of them are bonkers, but they are still lovely!

M

I think we need to renew the “faces of snuffhouse members” thread.

A

Yeah, we need pictures of our snuff chicks

M

That would be another way of puting it…

B

I can see it now the calendars the ladies of snuffhouse and the studs of snuffhouse. It’s o.k. because it would be for chariety.

A

Great idea Bob, but I’ll opt out cos I am an ugly bastard.

M

I put together a small collection of snuffs and gave it to my mom for her birthday. She probably snuffs a few times a week. My sister will also try some occasionally if I offer it to her.

K

Hello toffeenose it’s nice to see more female members. Being in the Boy’s Club. What could be better. I’ve always been partial to men. Very few female friends I would say are my best friends. Guys are so much more interesting. The Gentlemen here are so cool. Always very helpful.

A

what a sweetie! Hiya Kim, not seen you around for a bit, hows the cigarette battle?

L

And what charity might our calendar be for “Snuff for the Orphans”? I think it just might work.

A

I really did LOL at that Leman!! Or maybe: Snuff for the Cat Protection League - very few cats have access to snuff, or Save the Whale (with snuff) - again, whales just can’t get it, Dolphins struggle as well. Or maybe we could just send our boys in Iraq or Afghanistan a calendar and a tin of Toque? Don’t forget US army ration packs use to include a packet of Camels. Well, in this smoke hating age, we could get the Government to include a small tin of Jockey Club?

A

Ha ha, a newbie! They get it in their ration packs?

L

Maybe not the cats, although very few cats have access to snuff whenever I stick a little snuff to my cats noses they fly across the room, and won’t have anything to do with me for about an hour. Maybe that’s just my cats though and others would appreciate a little Samuel Gawith in the morning.

B

snuff camp for the kids.

A

Bob - thats it. With guard towers.

B

and sing alongs

A

and no toasting marshmellows, they can toast snuff

B

It will be a great time untill the police start shoting at the consoulers with tranq darts.

A

Then a great and bloody massacre…well no one said snuff camp would be easy.

B

Of course we’ll esacpe on the snufftin shaped scotter. (waiting to see if anyone catchs the refrence)

A

cos the camp is modelled on Guantanamo Bay

E

What are you two on this morning?

A

He He, just good snuff!

E

Thought as much

O

My daughter loves to smell my snuffs and give me her opinions. One day she got a bit too close. Very funny, looked like a newb snuffer. I laughed and told her she’s only allowed to smell it and not allowed to sniff it 'til she’s 18. (I kind of felt guilty, but it’s not like I handed her a pack of smokes and a lighter). Oh, and welcome to the forum toffeenose and other women snuffers. I had no idea zzedo was a girl. I thought Kim was the only active female member. And who is Trix? don’t remember seeing any posts from her. Bob- as far as snuffhouse calendars goes I hope you mean separate calendars (ladies of snuffhouse/ studs of snuffhouse) cuz I’m not buying a calendar with guys in it. The save the whales thing reminded me of the movie Baron von Manchausen? where he saves the day by using a pinch of snuff to get the whale to sneeze and free them from his stomach.

P

I’m sure all gentelmen will agree that we would like to see some photographs of our female companions. So ladies, how about it? Let’s have some nice pics from you.

A

Here Here!!

J

Shenanigans!

J

WHOA! I didnt know that Juxtaposer was a she-snuffer.

A

Wow, you look so different from your account picture! Maybe you’re wearing your hair different. Anyway, get over to my place!

J

That’s my mom. Cute isn’t she?

A

LMFAO!!!

B

As far as what I was on. One of the wackiest shows ever put on t.v… “Tom goes to the Mayor” specficly the “Pipe Camp” episode. Very strange show one of the types you either love or hate depending on well who knows what.

K

“Here I am boys! Come and get me!” LoL, Juxtaposer your going to fit right in here. Call there bluff! I’m going to say what the guys aren’t your so pretty. If I was a man I’d try to holla at you.

P

Kim, where is the bottom part of the second photo??

K

Let’s just say there wasn’t much clothing down there! LOL! This the PG version!

S

Nice pic Kim, could we maybe see the PG-13 version at least? I highly doubt anyone would be offended.

J

lol, nice…

P

Kim, I’m sure the rest of you will also be as pretty as what we have seen so far. So, please!!! Love you Pieter

S

Lmao; “so far…so please!!!”. And why not Kim; tis’ the season to be giving after all (like the dreads too).

K

Thanks Guys Alex would ban my butt from membership!

V

Kim: Oh my God in Danish you are a SILD… :op

P

Viking, what is SILD in plain English, I do not find such a word in my dictionary

V

Pieter & Retox - YESSSS!! Exactly!! The popular term for a chick/babe in Danish is “sild” - which rightly means “Heering” - it’s very weird, and I have only our weird history as vikings as a feeble possible explanation :o) Ha ha ha ha Retox - you rock! Amazing that you found out!!! :o)

P

Does that mean " am I the only Viking here" ?

V

Retox!!! Helt utrolig dejligt! Jeg kender ingen her i Danmark der bruger snus! Hvor er du i landet? Og glædelig jul forresten!

K

Thanks Everyone! For my Vikings: Tak så meget Viking! Plus det er rart at se dig og dine landsmænd taler i dit modersmål. Du kan kalde mig en gled anytime. Bare rolig, jeg kan ikke tale engelsk. Jeg snød med Translator.

E

Understood without translator Well… this part of Yorkshire was the first port of call that last time the Danes went walkabout

V

Retox - Hvor køber du snus? Jeg får mit fra England. Jeg bor i Århus forresten! Ja - god jul til dig også!

V

HA ha yes - if so, Kim is the prettiest viking I’ve ever seen :o)

S

I love pickled herring too! Best I had was in Amsterdam.

P

Viking, det tager mig omkring 12 timer til at laere et nyt sprog jeg begyndte at laere i gâr og jeg tror, jeg vil nu forstâ, hvad siger Regards!!! Pieter

P

Retox, you must just be careful. Although you do not pay VAT and customs, do not place single big orders. I also order from Toque snuff and Snuff Store (I live in South Afica) and customs did grab one of my parcels and made me pay import duty before they would release it… They take parcels at random, so chances are small that they would get at me again soon. That’s why I order more frequently and smaller amounts. So if they do tax me, the tax would be less than when it’s a large order.

P

The reason why you are still waiting for your order from Toque might be the public holidays, post offices might be closed.

J

He looks like a girl!

V

The EU system is a little different though. When you place orders from another EU country (except Ireland) no tax is added, since snuff is not taxed in Denmark.

V

Stitch - pickled heering is a Danish specialty - I wish I could send you some!! You’d love it!

P

Viking, jeg vil okså elske marinerede sild Jeg ved, at det som rå fisk, fileter, som er rullet op og til venstre i eddike til at modnes. Vi gor vores egen, fordi vi ikke importere det. Taler vi om de samme ting?

V

Pieter - ja helt rigtigt! Smager fantastisk godt!

S

VIKING- Is pickled herring a traditional New Years celebration food also in Denmark? We see it in shops this time of year. It’s so good with black bread and sour cream and sweet onion.

P

Stitch, NOW you’re talking!!! I will go find all you’ve mentioned TOMORROW MORNING!!! Can’t wait!!

A

Now you mention it that does sound damned good!

T

Little OT guys, don’t you think? Lol

V

Stitch> yes it is indeed, though most people here have the traditional curd. Pickled heering is often served at family gatherings and always with one of our local akvavits (a bit like schnaps) and raw onions. And always always always with local black bread. If you say “sild og snaps” (pronounced “sill 'ow snaps”) to any Dane, he will instantly know that you are talking about a joyful gathering for lunch. This is always served for lunch - never dinner.

V

Here is a site with very nice recipes for those of you who knows a bit of Danish :o) http://www.sildesiden.dk/marisi.htm

P

Well, I did it!! Just had some pickled herrings, gurgins, sweet pickled onions and brown bread with sour cream. Now I’m relaxing with a good pinch of Toque W&H up my nose!! Will have some STRONG coffee a bit later. What more can I ask for now?? Viking, I will check out your recipes, I love cooking and preparing food but, only as a hobby. Never want to be a chef (or a Ford!!!)

T

Apart from Queen Catherine of France, does anyone know of any famous female snuffers?

A

Queen Anne and also Queen Charlotte, consort of George the third, known rather unflatteringly as ‘Snuffy Charlotte’, also Catherine De Medici.

T

Oh yes - I’d forgotten about Snuffy Charlotte. I think Catherine De Medici is the same Catherine Queen of France. Didn’t see Helen Mirren snuffing at all in ‘The Madness Of King George’, though…

P

What about Toffeenose and Kim ?

W

Toffenose could be classed as a celeb, she did used to play in Echobelly a band I used to love back in the 90’s. Stefan

P

Yes, and KIM qualifies too because she’s pretty enough to be a queen!!

T

Oh, you guys! (blush, blush!)

B

What did she play??? Vocals or Guitar?

T

I’m not Sonya. I’m ‘the other one’!

B

Awesome it’s good to have more musicians here. I play bass as well as a few other things not so expertly. Though I play a mean computer I’am told.

P

That would make you Debbie?

A

It would. Ive just been watching some of the old videos on youtube, nice stuff, Debbie looks very cool, every inch the rock star.

B

cool First time hearing of you guys will have to definatly check it out.

T

Too kind, snuffster, too kind! Still throwing shapes 12 years later if I’m let near a stage, ha ha. This is footage from a recent gig with one of my bands: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=uCMc5zfES\\_s I’m playing the Mustang in this one. And another(same gig, different band - RAWK AND ROLL!!): http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Uc-F5VTBJyA I’m playing a Jazzmaster on a song I only learned during the soundcheck. Both bands quite different to Echobelly. And this is my favourite Curve video: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma7KLHAVm1M&feature=related Incidentally, the little girl in this is the singer in the previous clip! Thinking about it, this should really go on the guitar thread, shouldn’t it?

A

Ill check them out Debbie, thanks for the links. Yep, the guitar thread is the best place but no worries. All this looking at your vids and talking guitar is making me want to get out there again, the last time I was on a stage is a couple of years ago, which is the longest I’ve ever been and too long. Its really nice to have another musician join us. Nigel

S

Great stuff, cool to have a pro guitarist in our midst, thanks for the links!

B

Last time I was onstage I stole a mic when I was really drunk. Though I guess I can do some interesting singing kinda good if you’re into noise stuff.

G

Given the recent threads on snuff users and demographics (including gender) I found myself wondering about the women on the forum. Like…are there any? A search turned up this older thread. Thought others might find it interesting. For the record, I am not discriminating… I think women are great…have NOTHING against them. Some of my BEST friends are women and, yes, i even married one… proud of it too! I even let my kids go to school with them. im told i have a dry sense of humor.

A

The longest standing has been toffeenose, she drops in and out, has quite large breaks then comes back. Apart from her no female member has ever really lasted long. In terms of general membership there are very few around from the start of snuffhouse and after watching the trends here it seems like we have three different types; the new to snuff enthusiast who posts every day for a few weeks or months and then disappears, the people that join, post once and then are ever heard of again and the weirdos who stay, year in year out having the same converstaions on and on and on…There is also a sub-species of troll like creature who joins just to be disruptive. We’ve had some real crackpots - my favourite was the guy that would post normally and politely and then out of the blue randomly send abusive private messages. I got a very bizarre death threat from that one which actually resulted in moderators being brought in for the first time. I’m sure women snuffers are out there - but I think women are less likely to have hobbys in the same way men do. My wife says they have better things to do…

S

to give an Indian insight into this topic you would be amazed to know that women are major users here. mostly countryside women do snuff.Urban chics smoke.

A

That’s exactly how things were here in Ireland, and in a way, still are, but the country people taking snuff are bachelor farmers or labourers. Dublin City is exception, many auld wans snuff as do few of hard men.

S

My wife probably uses more snuff than I do. She enjoys it quite a bit. Her favorites are Honey Bee, Red Seal and now the Dark Horse. I can’t get her to try any of the European brands more than once or twice. I think there’s a lot of female snuffers out there, they just don’t post on forums. We get letters at The Ephemeris all the time from women who use snuff or snus and have never even thought to post here or at other sites. Maybe they’re intimidated by the predominately male atmosphere, I don’t know. I know at least in the case of Jennifer Goldmith, our Canadian lady-snuffer columnist, she says that anytime she joins a forum that is primarily male-oriented, her inbox gets inundated with friend requests and lonely/horny guys asking for pics and whatnot. For this reason she either avoids forums altogether or lists her sex as “male”. While we’re on the subject, I’d like to point out a recent observation about The Ephemeris that I found astonishing. Between our first issue to our third, our male readership has gone down while our female readership keeps getting higher and higher. As it stands, almost 30% of our total readership is female. That leads me to believe that since we’re primarily a word-of-mouth publication promoted mainly through sites like this, there’s got to be a lot of women out there lurking and not posting. And that’s fine with me. The more the merrier!

U

I fear we here in Germany are an exception. I do not know any woman who enjoys snuff. Also my own wife likes to smoke but refuses to try some snuff. I always ask her if she would like to take a pinch, but no. Your posts give me hope for the future

T

LOL @snuffster He sent you death threats? Some people…! Crazy bastard… My fiance LOVES snuff. She just doesn’t post on here. Right now she has some SP 100 in her Triple tech She takes some every day.

T

Have I just been called a “weirdo”? Snuffster surly you mean there are 4 distinct types the fourth being the “regular member”. Back on topic, I think my wife is the heaviest female user I’ve come across. The funny thing is she never actually takes any but, as our ‘scientific officer’ working in her lab, she’s breathing it in all the time.
