Women Snuff Takers

OK - all of us are guys evidently. Do women take snuff? My wife smokes but absolutely refuses to try snuff. Any reasoning for this (other than, according to her, its a man thing and a nasty thing for a woman to do). I know in the 16th through the 19th century, women took snuff. When did this become a man thing?

When did anything become a man thing? I don’t really get man or woman things. I mean you encounter them all over the place but most of them seem so gosh darn arbitariy especialy considering that there are lots of things that genuinly diffriantiate men from woman. Not knocking anyone I just don’t get doing something or not doing something because it’s manily or feminine. Heck there isn’t even a standard for standing or sitting when you take the world into account.

There’s a picture of an attractive Indian woman taking snuff on the Dholakia website. Bravo to them.

I agree with mountain man which is why I’am going to make the shittiest snuff ever then use force to coerce Ben Affleck (or who ever the kids think is cool now) to use my snuff very publicly.

We have a big Indian sub continent community in the UK and they are some of the biggest snuffers - women do it a lot but I think very privately. Most newspaper/tobacco shops in the UK are Asian owned and the majority seem to sell Wilson’s SP - they are usualy called ‘corner shops’ and there are loads of them about. There is a big oral tobacco use amongst Indian people and I think a lot use it this way. They have some incredible stuff called ‘pahn’ which is a wad of leaf and stuff better tasted than described, and some of my asian collegues have turned me on to it - mindblowing. I was out with a mixed group on Saturday night in an Indian restaurant and brought out my snuff box, after we had consumed several bottles of wine. The snuff, and my demonstration, was good entertainment but no-one tried it - but I was the only tobacco user. The overall view was eccentric as opposed to anything derogatory, but Brits are all eccentric in one way or another so whose to say…

There are some wives/girlfriends of forum members here who partake in snuff.

My girlfriend tries most of my snuffs and after a glass of wine or two always asks for a pinch of Cherry Menthol. Though she makes me turn away when she has a sniff!

What with makeup, manicures, periods, childbirth, toilet training, applying disgusting smelly substances to their hair or worse – depilatory treatments, for most women, life is quite messy enough without adding snuff to the mix. The matter of hankies could get terribly complicated in a woman’s mind, requiring a consideration of which shoes, belt, bag, etc to look “coordinated.” Thank goodness there are still some pleasures that don’t appeal much to women. Be careful what you ask for. It gives us men a chance to be with our kind - to drink a bit in excess of what’s polite in mixed company, to snuff up a storm or even take a chew or dip. If a gent lights up a stinky cigar, I say more power to 'em. Oh, and if you really want your sweetie to take up snuff the surest way is to absolutely forbid it.

I like it men only. I consider myself pretty non sexist on the whole, but I dont want women there at everything I do, so male snuffing suits me fine. A few people were giving up smoking in my wifes office so I sent along a few tins, non threatening stuff like Gawith in flip top cans, the men gave it a go but the girls all said it was not lady like. My wife hated the smell to begin with, but now likes it. They’re a funny bunch women

While I was in hospital last week, an asian nurse would have a pinch of my snuff to finish her shift with. She loved Spanish Jewel btw, and SP100, which I took in with me.

To me, it’s no surprise that sticking tobacco up your nose does not appeal to women.

Same reason you don’t see very many women who dip/chew. One of my old girlfriends in high school did actually like copenhagen on occasion which was alright because I was a heavy dipper. And she absolutely loved the smell of it. She would hold that can up to her nose and smell it like it was a flower. She was a cowgirl though, raised on a farm with 3 brothers who all dipped. Wasn’t your avg. girly girl who gossips all day, covers themselves in makeup and has to go window shopping in all their free time. She liked to hunt & fish.

There is an extremely pretty lady using snuff and sneezing on youtube at the moment

Damn, she almost looks like one of my ex’s

Well I’m a woman and I like taking snuff! I don’t really see how or where gender comes into it; as has been pointed out before, many women used snuff in it’s heyday, and a lot of my female friends seem to have a granny who liked a pinch or two! The brown snot/hankie thing doesn’t bother me either, and I’m not bothered if the hankie is ‘co-ordinated with my outfit’ - it’s a hankie, for Chrissakes! Sorry, snuffster if you feel I might be intruding on your boy’s club ;-)(that’s tongue in cheek, by the way!), but I do what I like, and no-one’s going to tell me Jack! Mind you, people say I look boyish anyway, so what the hey…
