I’m in need of some wisdom and direction. I am fairly new to snuff. I have a pretty high tolerance to nicotine and cant figure out a combo of type and strength to suffice my tastes. I have tried most McCrystals and like the menthol of highland ice best but also fancy OG and Sturco. Some of the menthols tend to close up my one nostril while others don’t(specifically sturco does) Not a fan of the fruity flavors. Ive never had Jip as in US and cant find a distributor. Recently bought a tin of Viking ISS and like the nicotine but not enough burn/menthol but moisture is nice (Tobacco blend is also a bit dark for my taste.) So basically looking for a “cold” menthol with high high nicotine that is medium coarse and medium grind. Any recommendations from you experienced lot???
Most high nicotine snuffs are fine grind and have no menthol. 6 Photo LA Natural is a strong snuff with a nice fluffy grind or you can try a Madras snuff. You can add menthol to any snuff by mixing it with a strong menthol snuff like Hedges, you can adjust the menthol level to your liking by adding more menthol snuff until its the level you want.
If you can source rustica anywhere you could try adding it to Hedges L260 or McCrystals O&G. It will probably blow your head off though so it is worth researching how much to put in.
How about Rusty Nail? From the reviews it sounds like it is a strong rustica? I also have hedges in my cart atm along with snuv crack. Thoughts?
I might suggest Red Bull from Poschl.
It is a strong menthol “cold” snuff. Very similar to Jip!
If your looking for high nicotine I would avoid the Poschl range of snuffs they are among the weakest nicotine wise. They do make good mixers for really fine snuffs that are hard to take like the white snuffs. The high oil content lets you mix in a heafty amount of white snuff and it will be all fluffy and clumpy like the Poschl snuff and easy to take. I always mix at least 2 to 3 parts White Elephant to 1 part Poschl to boost the nicotine, even with that much WE the Poschl completely overpowers it and it smells of pure Poschl.
Just a thought: why not set aside the mentholated / medicated snuffs altogether and try out some regular old natural snuffs? There are lots of good ones out there, many with very respectable levels of vitamin N. Good and properly prepared tobacco, naked and in its full glory, can be heavenly.
Medicated snuffs can certainly stop you up if overdone. L260, one of my all time favorites, will do it.
Have you tried any of the Indian black medicated snuffs? For me at least, they seem less prone to stuffiness, though one can get some back-drip.
To bump up the nic-hit, chase the black medicated snuff with an Indian white snuff such as the White Elephant mentioned above. Janta’s White Horse is a good substitute when WE isn’t available. Whites aren’t easy to take for noobs (and I still get a throat hit from time to time) but having one’s nose already full of black snuff makes them much easier to comfortably insufflate.
@Demigros I am a big fan of natural tobacco snuffs too!
Here are some natural snuffs I have (besides my homemades which are excellent made from cigars) :
F&T High Dry Toast
Toque Natural Toast
WoS Plain / Toque Natural / Toque Quit
Toque Rustica
Bernard Gekachelter Virginie
Viking Brown
Viking Scotch Dark
Viking Rappee
NTSU Black
I have some Indian Whites Dholakia White, Janta White Horse, 6photo Cheeta
and Janta Dragon Madras.
I also have Poschl Perlesreuter Schmalzle and Fubar Snafu Plain that I think they are scented but overall tobacco-centric snuffs.
I would love to read some of your recommendations for natural pure snuffs.
Cheers
All good ones for sure, and I hope that the OP @ bundles will see fit to try a few of them out.
I would add WoS Irish No. 22 to the list, as well as Silver Dollar Scotch, and SWS Fifty Fifty, Lundy Foot, St James Paris, and perhaps Havana Toast as well.
Bernard Kownoer is another one with some power behind it (some of the Rosinskis are similar, being in the Fermented Pomeranian style, but none are particularly as strong as the Kownoer, which seems to be what @ bundles is after).
Oh, also SG Silky Dark (not my favorite in that style, but a solid one with a lot of fans I think).
Cheers.
EDIT: forgot to note, Janta Indian Rustica Standard. Recently tried it for the first time. It’s another good heavy hitter in the naturals category.
Might I add 6 Photo LA Natural and SG Kendal Brown Plain(same as the old Viking Brown, dont know how it is now that its produced by WoS).
There is a bunch of plain artisan snuffs most of which I have never had. SWS Auld Alliance is a good one made with a blend of Virginia and Burley but its one of those that must be very moist to unlock its true flavour profile and since it contains no preservatives once you start pinching from it when its moist it is prone to go moldy unless you store it in the fridge.
Try SNUV White - Blow.
I will put up my review.
I have Snuv Blow ordered and on the way as well as Rusty Nail and Rusty Trombone. Ordered Hedges L260 as well to test it out.
Appreciate all the recommendations
Fine selections. I will put up my reviews of those as well. My L260 is one of my first reviews. I will have to review it again at some point.
Just an update for the curious. I recently received Rusty Nail, Blow and L260. They all have their own ups but Rusty is my favorite thus far. It has the moisture and close to potency that I’m looking for but not quite. Still waiting for the madras and green dragon to see if they have the nicotine content. I will say that the SNUV white has some smell/topping that I am jot fond of in any way. Reminds me of a bathroom spray. Not sure what it is but if someone follows what I’m saying let me know so I can avoid. I think that the recommendation of mixing something like white elephant with a menthol might suit me best (mecampo).I have an extreme tolerance to nicotine but I’ll figure it out sooner or later. I am enjoying the process. Always open to recommendations. Thanks
One of the pleasures of snuff-taking for many (especially the tyro) is sampling the great variety that is available. You owe it to yourself to explore the world of snuff. As the great bard observed, age could not wither, nor custom stale, her infinite variety. Therefore, I wouldn’t worry too much about nicotine content. If a particular snuff fails to hit the mark then simply take more of it until it does. Some snuffs you will like and others you will loath but you won’t know which is which until you dive in
I’ve not tried the Snuv white. White Elephant and White Horse are both good, with my preference leaning towards the WE. I don’t mind the White Horse Gul, either, though it has a bit more “funk” scent than the other two. They all provide a nice nic-hit and can be used to prop up snuffs that are bit lacking in strength.
@bundles I’m interested in hearing your opinion on the Green Dragon as regards nicotine. I have not been able to determine the nicotine because it clumps up on me and flies back too far. So I have not been able to snuff alot at one time, still trying…
