Right then, what snuffs do you like/recommend for a refreshing winter walk? I’ll start the ball rolling with F&T Santo Domingo or Bordeaux or even a cheeky combination of the two. I also like a menthol even though many recommend them as a hot day snoot.

D

I really enjoy snuffs that have a smokiness to them during the fall/winter.  It mixes with the smell of fireplaces and just gives me a nice, cozy feeling.  Toque Bourbon has been my personal choice for outdoors in the winter.

D

Toque Bourbon for sure.

A good Scotch like Dental, Bruton, or most certianly Square (I’ve been on a kick of this snuff lately)

J

I don’t get a winter here

D

@Juxtaposer My winter used to be multiple feet of snow… but now I’m lucky if I’ll get to see an inch this year.

M

@Juxtaposer : Where are you located?  If you don’t mind me asking

J

I am on Maui

M

Holy crap! You’re in Hawaii, that’s nuts! I’ve never been there but I hear it is beautiful… And probably quite warm almost all the time…? . Makes sense that you don’t get snow

R

@Juxtaposer  Do you get snow on Haleakala?

J

It snows on the Big Island volcano peaks every year in fact it snowed last night. Haleakala on Maui rarely gets any snow, maybe once every five years or so. It makes for a very popular outing event when it does happen. It’s usually from late winter storms in February or March.

X

It snows there but either the volcanos melt it quickly or the tsunamis wash it away.

I know Jux is jealous of my igloo, so this year I will make a bigger one, and he can come and stay in it for a while.

B

And here I thought something was either swallowing you or regurgitating you in that picture, Xander!! :-?

(Yeah, I’m jealous of your snow complex…)

C

It was the marshmallow man, Bart.  He started to melt in the summer time because of global warming but he wanted one last meal, and Xander just happened to be taking a jog in a full parka and fur hat.  Strange attire for the summer time but I’m still trying to figure out what the marshmallow man was doing in Delaware.

T

From far away @Xander 's pic looks like a polar bear.

don’t ask

:-?

S

Haven’t you thought of clicking on his icon, or user name Xander you get a larger picture.

J

@Xander Making an igloo is going on my bucket list.

B

It does look like the south side of a polar bear headed north…“Anal Glaucoma”–I couldn’t see that $hit happening to a nicer guy!

C

:-))

T

@snuffhead Nah, I normally stay away from clicking buttons I don’t know the function of.  I guess I’m not the type to “hit the big red button and say what does this do?”

M

Nothing wrong with curious fingers!

X

Damn thing collapsed in the heat of the sun the day after that photo.  I should have built it  on the north side of the house instead of the south.  It took weeks of snowstorms and packed snow just to have the right conditions.  Then days of building, all to naught.

“There’s no permanent kingdom” my dad always said.

S

@ transistor, LOL!  I remember once clicking a button and banning Bakdoor by accident, I had to email the boss to get im back on here again.  Good job Tom could see the funny side.

J

Igloos are made using blocks of ice, right? Xanders is what we’d refer to as a “snow-fort” when we were kids, heheh. We got about 8 inches of snow here last night and its still snowing, but supposed to stop by afternoon. To the topic, I second the smokey snuffs as being nice on cold days/nights, I like Molens Latakia AO 1860!

J

Yes, I want to saw ice blocks. I have been smoking more Latakia now that it is cooler and the Latakia snuff I made is perfect for this season.

Square Three Thistle Strong Mild Lemon Stammheimer Hopfen Schnupf SG: Black Coffee SG: Kendal Brown Original Espresso Whisky & Honey WoS: Irish D High Toast No. 20

X

@jbruckus It was made with blocks.  Not ice but packed snow, just like proper igloos.  The snow plow that plowed my street did some of the packing for me, but I was out there with a saw cutting blocks.  I packed in the blocks with loose snow and water from a spray bottle as mortar.

M

@Debauchery : YES !  Hopfen Schnupf was one of the ones I ordered most recently.  I cant wait to try it

J

@Xander - I see. Sounds like you put some work into that thing. Would make a good fort for you launch a snow-ball assault on the neighborhood kids from.

D

@MikeMoose: I classify it as being a hybrid cross between a classic IPA and an excellent SP type snuff. It would be interesting to find out what you think of it once you’ve given it a try. That one is truly a work of art.

B

Yeah, that Hopfen snuff is different.  I actually tried it while drinking an IPA and it was an interesting combo.

M

@Debauchery : What do you mean when you say a classic IPA?  I will definitely be giving it a try very soon!  And I will give all my thoughts and opinion on it in my video .  All I hear is good reviews of it!

T

As it gets colder, I can heartily recommend Samuel Gawith’s KB Original as a winter snuff.

J

I like walking outside on a cold day after sniffing some hedges L260.  Makes my nose feel alive.  hahaha

K

Taking a lot of McC Clove and Molens Musinotabak. Drinking Samuel Smiths Winter Welcome and Shepheard Neame London Porter.

B

I have to agree on the Molens Musinotabak. Definitely a great snuff. I enjoy a nice pinch of toque Bourbon with a good winter beer as well. I have never had a bad walk with a great sunff in my nose though. Cheers.

A

Toasts are nice and warming during winter.

M

jbruckus , Xander, and Juxtaposer , that kind of snow shelter is called a quinzee, We built those when we went on a Winter High Adventure trip with my Scout troop. Pile pu the snow and pack it down. Then measure some sticks 8 to 10 inches long. stick them into the snow. Hollow out till you just touch the ends of the sticks.

@mustangii mine was not a hollowed out pile. I built it with hard snow blocks cut with a saw. I used moistened soft snow as mortar and packed it in with a trowel. I researched igloo building about one third of the way into the project, so its technically not a proper igloo, as I didn’t start it right. The door for instance was formed around a tubular object and molded. Above the door level, I began to correct the design by followig stricter igloo rules, so the end result is a bit of a compromise. Many of the blocks were cut specifcally to fit in their own places with notches and rabbits, etc. Each course overlaps the layer below, like shingles. The arched top of course is self supportng by the static forces of the blocks against each other.

M

cool, of course I would like to build one, but in Missouri we don’t get enough snow at times.

2010 we had ridiculous snow. Last year was heavy, but moderate by 2010’s standards. This coming year? I hoping for big snow, but not all at once like 2010. We had two blizzards and a good size lesser storm all withinn a two week period or so and little melting then.
