Wilsons Royal George where to go from here?

W

I’ve been using Wilsons Royal George for about a week now and I’m loving it. I find the complexity and over all nature of this wonderful snuff exceptional. My question is are there other snuffs along the lines of Royal George that I should try? Thanks!

O

Maybe you could like Toque wiskey & honey, Toque Spanish gem, Samuel Gawith Elmo’s reserve, that are complex and sweet about Royal George. However there are many others of the same kind.

WoS Grand Cairo is next it’s easier to use, amazing comes to mind. Morlaix , Gold label & Sherry are a few of my favorites

B

most of the freyborg and treyer line also by wilson.

S

Morlaix, F&T Bordeaux and Old Paris are all good perfumed snuffs (and all favs of mine)

These are all good recommendations, but Royal George really is the king of complex, perfumed snuffs.

O

About Royal George, I have recently received a square box of vintage Royal George still in cellophan, never open. Well, I’ve tried it and I noticed some differences with the that currently on the market. As well as a difference in odor which is however not excessive because the two are similar enough, it seemed to me that there is a marked difference in persistence in the nose. That vintage lasts much longer than the current one (and for my taste is also more good) … I believe that snuffs 30-40 years ago were more loads in the odor of the current ones and were made to last longer. I’ve noticed this with other vintage snuffs that have been well preserved.

The most similar I’ve had would be GH’s Fluerette. Try also WoS Wallflower and Carnation, (but those are single scents, not a melange, so you’d miss the complexity)…

SG Elmo’s Reserve F&T Morlaix F&T Princes Special Toque Spanish Gem

Another chance to plug my favourite… Give WoS Jockey Club a try - just as complex a scent, in my opinion.

OK, so after some thought and great recommendations I came up with this list: WoS Grand Cairo, SG Elmo’s Reserve, WoS Jockey Club and WoS Morlaix. I’m also going to try some Wilsons Carnation and Wilsons Rose of Sharrow.

Good choice, I find that although it’s highly perfumed it has a ‘clean’ kind of scent to it, not cloying at all. You could of course try using Royal George as a base and mixing others with it, I’ve just added some Tube Rose and Honey Bee to some of mine, and it’s rather good…

Don’t forget some F&T Dr J.R. Justice, Bordeaux or French Carotte if you want perfumed goodness!

M

Just beware that some of the floral/perfumey ones can be VERY heady. I’d recommend the French Carotte most highly out of Skell18’s suggestions. The others will be rather heady, and may ghost your nose for hours, a good thing if you like them- long term unpleasantness if you don’t. I’d take a good long sniff of the open containers before taking a pinch. I still very much recommend the GH Fluerette, rather akin to the R.G. Good luck with your exploration…
