Wilson's of Sharrow tins

I really am starting to hate these 10gm Wos tins. Every time I open one there is always a Hugh overlap of snuff on one side. Are the 25gm tins the same. I’m thinking of having to invest in something just to dump the snuff in.

Always fold a piece of paper in half, open paper lay flat, open tin over paper transfer contents into glass jars, seal jars fill snuff box with two days worth ,repeat as necessary. remove label stick to jar. recycle tin

Or you could make a 2-3 rapid circles with the tin, without rotating the tin itselt, and tap it on top to settle the snuff before opening.

Yes the 25g tins, and even the 5g tins all have the same issue. They are built the same. However, they are actually pretty good tins if you know a little trick: Before opening, hold the tin parallel to a tabletop about 1-2 inches above the surface. Drop it flat on the table 3 or 4 times. The snuff levels out and all is well. Works every time. I used to think they were a hassle too until someone taught me that simple remedy. Now I’m just happy that the tins are so full. It feels like you’re getting extra snuff!

I hated those tins, I empty it into a jar or something as soon as I open it. I don’t buy small tins anymore though, I feel like the scent is far more pleasurable in greater amounts of snuff. If WoS used those vacuum sealed tins SG and Viking use I would certainly be more prone to try more of their line.

I bought a selection of 5g tins and they have all been quite hard to open to start with. One of them was stuck closed so tightly I had to use a couple of adjustable spanners to open it. I wish they would use the same as the FT tins.

Good tip, it worked on one I just tried

The 5g ones tend to get stuck more often.

@xander. I just used this method. It works really well Thanks. I also loosen the tin a bit before so I can open it easier while its still flat against the surface. Works great

Glad I could help. That’s why we’re here. We really need an FAQ section since this one and how to open a vacuum tin seem to come up a lot.

I don’t mind that the tins are as packed as they are, to me that shows value for money. I can even cope with the Best Dark hanging limpet-like onto the lid because it doesn’t want to play, I know it’ll relent eventually. It’s the labels that annoy me - there must be a way they can print 'em so the name stays readable. I end up recognising them by the shape of the remaining bits and pieces of the name. I must start sticking some clear tape over them when I get them. The tin I got from a trip to a tobacconist in Salisbury only a couple of weeks ago already reads Oyal George…

My labels stay readable unless they ride in my pocket a lot. Which by the way though bad for labels, is great for a snuffbox. Wood or metal, they get and stay shiny!

I have learned to stop complaining about the WoS tins… look what happened to Samuel Gawith tins for 10g…
