With my first pinch of this snuff, I was very undecided. I had however snuffed something else a short time before, and so figured it might be best to wait a while and take another pinch before collecting my thoughts on it. Some time later I took a second pinch. Still undecided. I’m certainly not getting a prominent berry scent. It’s a very nice tobacco scent with… not sure what… OK, let’s ignore the name and try again. Pinch number three. The tobacco base is very nice, and the casing takes a while to interpret. There’s a definite berry scent coming through, but in the form of fruit flavoured sweets/candy rather than the fruit themselves. Yes, this is a subdued fruitiness, rather like you find in a fruit yoghurt. There’s no menthol, just a tobacco laced with a creamy fruitiness. There is something a little synthetic/metallic/chemical in the background, but as a seperate note. I like this. It’s very easy on the nose. After a while the fruit yoghurt or fruit fondant comes forward a little more. Crawfords strawberry cream biscuits come to mind. (Was I Crawfords? Sandwich type biscuits with a strawberry fondant centre?) That’s it! It’s not fruit pie filling, but berries and cream. Still a bit of a metallic tang in there, but tolerable. After blowing the nose, the scent is still there, and still pleasant. This may get a little cloying after a while, but may be a very nice snuff for those times when you want a more gentler scented snuff rather than a full frontal attack of the senses. I’ll report back on this thread later when I’ve made my way further through the tin to report any changes. So far though, I’m very happy I decided to try this
Several minutes later, the tobacco scent has subsided, but there is a subtle fruity scent still there, and it has “warmed up” a little, almost like a subtle mulled wine or fruit punch scent. Nice.
Quick update on this snuff - it’s getting flushed! I don’t know if it’s whatever is giving this snuff a metallic edge, but something in it is disagreeing with me. I’m getting a splitting headache several minutes after taking a pinch. At first I though it was coincidence, but now there seems to be a pattern to it. This is the first snuff that has ever done this to me, and I hope it’s the last!
I have a tin of WoS Sherry that I’ve been pinching away at, and I’ve noticed something odd in there. Now that you mention a metallic taste, I think that you may be spot on. I don’t get any headaches from it though. I’ll have to wait until I get home to investigate further.
I’ve not tried the Sherry yet, so I have heeded your warning on that one.
Yup, just took a big pinch. Mostly roses/potpourri, a little plum, and a dash of grape jelly. The aroma out of the jar I have it in is quite pleasant, but a very subtle metal feel in the mouth, if that makes sense. Almost like a piece of old silverware. I don’t find it entirely unpleasant, and I’ve only got about a gram left. Maybe its from the tin? I received mine from a Mr. Snuff potluck, along with a tin of WoS Princes. The princes was corroded shut. The can collapsed as I tried to open it and I cut my thumb open, I scrapped that one. The Sherry was salvageable. Then again, it could just be something added to the tobacco, whether it be a flavoring or a PH adjustment. Now that the floral notes are fading, I am being to notice a mild metallic scent. I honestly couldn’t identify it until I read your post in the “what tin did you throw out today” thread. I just knew that something seemed a bit off. I don’t think I’ll go as far as to throw it out though. I’m very frugal with my tobacco.
I don’t like wasting tobacco either, most of my discards get recycled, but this one had to go. Interesting you said old silverware, as that was the association I made too. I would be very surprised if it was the tin. I’ve never had any problem with any of the other WoS snuffs I’ve had. I can only imagine it’s something from the scenting process. I’m not prepared to buy another tin to confirm though.
