What is the gram weight of a WoS “small tin”, as one UK supplier sells it. Are there small , medium, and large tins of WoS snuffs. How does one know the quantity of WoS snuff one is purchasing in a “small tin” ? I’m only familiar wih Nic Rush, which clarifies WoS products as 10 gram or 25 gram tins.
It’s a 5g tin.
Nice picture!
I love these small tins. That’s all I’ve been buying lately.
I detest/hate ALL WoS tins. But…I LOVE the contents!
Right? What’s it take? Roderick, can you sell them some of your tins? I lose half of the contents of my WoS tins, even after dropping them flat on a surface.
Drop them two or three times. I’ve learned how to deal with them. I don’t spill them anymore. Although a flat lid would be an improvement.
A flat lid would be nice.
With a screw top perhaps.
How long has Wilsons had its current tin design?
@cstokes4, 12 million years. And they still have 1,012,369,831,963 in stock.
I don’t mind them. But I usually snuff when I am at work at my desk, or home at the computer desk, or watching TV next to the coffee table.
@toffeenose, I also love things that can screw. So much better and keep the flavour in for longer. Also no waste if used correctly.
F&T.
Haven’t you noticed the same tins are used by a number of snuff manufacturers Mcrystal’s and Samuel Gawith used them before the tap out plastic boxes.
Oddly I lose more snuff with the toque tins. Then again I always tap my tins against my hand a few times. Or even spining the tin by taping the sides seems to get it all flat.
@Bob, with all due respect, how do manage to do that? I’ve never lost any snuff from a Toque tin.
You can, if you dig in deep to get a pinch and it displaces snuff over the edges. I just have to remember to be careful.
Wilsons of Sharrow tins are now my favourite type. I hate all tap out dispensers and decant them into empty Wilsons tins - I like to pinch all snuffs except the fluffy German types. The problem with Toque tins is they are too fragile and bend and flex too much until the thread becomes useless. F&T tins are good until they are half full, then they need decanting.
While the toque tins are really nice for keeping snuff from spilling some of my tins are a bit worn out on the edge and I’m kind of afraid of aluminum powder getting into my snuff.Anybody know what I’m talking about ?
@Snuff Head: They are not the “exact” same tin, but the same style. I think that McChrystal’s saving grace is that they only put 8g into a large tin, so it’s not overflowing.
With WoS tins I find it helps to pack the snuff down hard with your thumb when you first open them. It keeps its shape pretty well even after carrying around and you don’t get that overflow.
Funny the lids are all interchangeable. And I wish I could find the url of the tin manufacturer! I’ve said before that Wilsons overfill the tins so it’s not a big thing if a little is lost on first opening, Lol!
i despise the WoS 5g tins simply because they are very awkward to open if you have large hands and at times it’s hard to get a grip on them. hahaha
Thanks Tony
So we were both awake at silly o’clock during the night!
Lol, I got up to let the cat in. and take a pinch of Manjul!
So was I. I was sitting up reading ‘all about snuff’ by the society of snuffgrinders etc and taking regular pinches of my favourite toque blend, which no doubt contributed to me taking the day off today!
There’s a thread regarding hatred of Wilson’s tins. I’m not a fan of them myself. I always place a sheet of paper under the tin when I first pop it open to catch any spillage. I also use my trusty pocket knife blade/backup snuff spoon to scrape the extra snuff from the lid. My usual method is to take a plastic knife and shovel the snuff into empty Packard’s Club containers for dispensing and carrying. Toque tins are much better in my opinion. I do appreciate some of the tap out tins but find the sticky Bernard blends not well suited for the small hole. I gave up on bullets but do have some on hand for special situations. I’m just not a pincher. I tried it and found the technique didn’t suit me. If I have to dip straight from the tin I usually use my pocket knife. Otherwise, I dose out a Packard’s box size onto the back of my hand.
The bullet!!! Thanks Spyro! I’ve been out of Toque original for weeks now but I just remembered that I have a full bullet of it. Jackpot. Great feeling…like finding a bud that forgot I socked away somewhere.
