My Tobacconist told me that Wilson’s of Sharrow were effectively illegal in the U.S. now because they won’t submit an ingredients list to the FDA; they won’t be getting anymore in. Has anyone else heard this? Hopefully we can still get this online. I stocked up on whatever they had left but I wonder if the information they have is suspect. Can anyone confirm this? I’ve been a tobacco user and retailer for some twelve years and I’m getting tired of finding a new product I enjoy only to have it snatched away. Is it any wonder I have tobacco hoarding tendencies? Thanks for any input.
I think it’s just illegal to sell it not possess it. So order from the UK.
Yep, we’ve heard of it. Basically, see all the discussions from June to August. At present, aside from the US Scotches (not even 100% sure with them) every brand of snuff is illegal to sell in the US. Toque was the only brand of snuff to submit what the FDA wanted, and last I heard it hasn’t been approved because the FDA want Roderick to put warnings about oral cancer on the tins, and he’s refused due to the patent absurdity of the notion. I guess there were a lucky (or unlucky, since they missed out on the chance to hoard like the rest of us) folks out there who didn’t hear about the PACT Act.
Well the snuff you buy online will be a lot fresher as rule than anyhting in atobacco shop, especially if you order in bulk, so maybe theres a slight silver lining.
I think there are/were only 4 tobacconists in the entire US that sold WoS over the counter anyway. They all no doubt got it from Sheffield Exchange which I think was associated with that Snuff Shop in Texas. So that guy’s interpretation of the law is what matters. As for making possibly libelous statements that are based on hearsay, I would not presume to say what they rufused or did not refuse to do. A quick e-mail to Wilsons should get an accurate answer.
So the oral cancer thing will be on all tins? Shame.
i guess after that, i have to pack a lip of Toque *lol*
@Roderick: There is no law that says you can’t add a label of your own, “Not for oral use.” That should keep the FDA confused (or set them straight) and also let the public know what it really is.
Can you put a counter label on the back. Like other magic effects toque has causes toe cancer in your enemies eyeballs?
Of all the gals I’ve dated only a very few had that warning label [“Not for oral use”] on their foreheads. The warning worked really well for me. I avoided them and relabeled them as “a waste of my time”. IMO, sometimes a label can be very helpfull. just sayin
Wtf? Really? Nasal snuff causes oral cancer? By that logic it also causes rectal cancer if you happen to want to shove it up your arse. I’ve never heard such ludicrous horse shit in all my life.
Lol, hate to laugh because its stupid that u have to go through this but maybe you should include a small instruction for use on a peice of paper made to fit inside the tin so as to not turn away customers that might misunderstand and try it orally.
i think Amostrinha have a warning like this on the tin.
It does. At least the one I got once had a warning for nasal use only.
“Lion & Key Amosthrina Snuff Tobacco Take this excellent tobacco for the nose only.” I think I will do just that.
Well guys, last I heard Roderick was understandably refusing to do this, so that’s why Toque isn’t popping up in at least a couple of tobacconists over here. The FDA has gotten so used to snuff meaning something like Copenhagen that they’ve forgotten where the word comes from, and insist their rules require all snuff to have the “This product may cause oral cancer, gum disease and tooth loss.” and “This product is not a safe alternative to cigarettes.” warnings. We know both are utter garbage, but that’s the FDA for you.
The FDA is what it is…Food Drug Administration! They are not tobacco experts by any means.
FDA = F–k–g Dumb Arseholes
I stand corrected, Pieter…heh
Big cheers for Roderick for all his hard work! (can’t help the double post)
