Mr. Snuff added this a couple of months ago, and I don’t see any info about it on the WoS website. I’ll give a newbie description of it, but I’m hoping vets do a better job once they get around to trying this snuff. Medium brown, medium grind, medium moisture, and in the tin I smell the tobacco with the aroma of cookies and some butterscotch. It’s pretty easy to take, just like most WoS. I’ve taken this by pinch, spoon, and boxcar, and I don’t get much butterscotch in the nose. I find it to be more of a natural scent. It’s nice, and I could use it all day… there’s no pungent aroma to get tired of IMO.
Here’s a spot for people to review it or talk about it. When I watch or read snuff reviews, many people do a better job than I could. I have a hard time picking out various scent or judging nicotine levels. There are other things I don’t know, like what an SP is (I used to think SP = bergamot, apparently this is not the case).
I :x snuff
@SeanOCDPx I’ll give that a try and post my thoughts here.
It takes a bit of time and effort to train your senses of taste and aroma/smell. You might try to find a wine tasting “seminar” where the moderators focus on comparing the aromas of wine to various fruits, herbs, etc. They are usually free or cheap but well worth it.
I did several of these that were targeted at food and wine pairings as well as some cigar and spirits pairings. It doesn’t take long to discern the different scents and flavors in quality tobacco.
I have a batch of Dark Air Cured Kentucky Burley from the Green River Valley.
With a bit of salt and gentle toasting, a few months in a whisky barrel and a brutal milling it takes on the most amazing notes of cocoa, coffee, nuts and freshly baked bread. There’s nothing in the recipe but tobacco, salt and some distilled water.
Overall, I agree with your review. I’ve been working my way through a tin of WoS Butterscotch and have really enjoyed it. First of all, the butterscotch flavoring is strictly background. It doesn’t get in the way of the tobacco aromas at all, so it’s a very natural fit despite being a new blend, and I am surprised nobody came up with this sooner. The tin I opened was floury and on the dry side, not really very moist at all. By comparison, I opened up a tin of WoS Chocolate and Orange tonight, and the Butterscotch is way dryer, so I have to be careful snuffing the Butterscotch or else most of it ends up in the back of my throat. Nevertheless, it’s very pleasant, does not have an overwhelming nicotine kick despite having a definite sting, and I could happily snuff it all day long without getting sick of it, unlike some of the more strongly flavored snuffs.
Yeah… this stuff is good. Very nice balance between subtle butterscotch, natural tobacco flavor and almost toast like qualities. If I didn’t have so many other varieties to explore, I’d be emptying this tin pretty quickly…
I’m about a third of the way through this large tin. The more I indulge, the less butterscotch scent comes through. It’s a damn good base flour with some light toasty notes, which at this point is its only salvation. I will happily polish this tin off but likely won’t buy again.
Although this stuff is very moreish, I now generally use this just once daily, as like @chefdaniel, I get diminishing returns in terms of the butterscotch. I find it makes a good stepping stone to from sweeter snuffs to toasts.
OM Butternut Toast? Can’t wait for that. I’m absolutely hooked on the deliciously buttery OM Ivory Toast, so am very much look forward to this!
Received a tin of Butterscotch last week, just now cracking the tin.
Not a whole lot to add to the conversation, but just to add another concurring opinion. What very little butterscotch aroma there is VERY faint and, with repeated use becomes virtually undetectable. The base tobacco is pretty good, though, so I don’t feel as if I’ve wasted anything on the tin.
As a butterscotch snuff, mediocre. As a snuff in general, pretty good - but the stuff it does well is done better, IMO, by the Viking line and, generally, most other plain snuffs of the dark/briny variety.
Opened a fresh tin of this today, and I have to say I echo the above comments about subtlety. This is a really nice snuff, it’s just not what I was expecting. I don’t think there is anything wrong with the snuff at all, and I would have no problem recommending it. I just think it needs a different name, as I’m just not getting butterscotch coming through here at all - if anything, I’m getting chocolate chip cookies. Great snuff - crap name!
