Wilsons Irish Toast #21

I wanted to bring this one up due to it’s exceptional nature and relative obscurity. One of Wilson’s harder to get snuffs at one time and quite a different experience from its #20 (one of my favorites) and the sublime and well regarded #22 toast. This snuff has as much to offer as the other two, but it has a small following. I have just completed a detailed search and found scant reviews exist for it, I thought I would present this for discussion to both compare notes, and to bring it to the attention of those who have never considered it before. The three in this series, the #20, the #21, and of course the popular #22 should be part of any study of fine English snuffs. After a thorough snuffing, I have little myself to add to Xander and Red Star’s take on this one. I remain convinced that these three have to be experienced for what are, a true and unique variation on what a snuff can be, and statement of snuff making artistry.

Yes, but just to be clear, the No.21 is not “DH Irish Toast” but simply “Irish Toast.” The “DH” is for the No. 20.

I would just like to add, that its the simplicity of this one that makes it beautiful. “Plain” can be a wonderful thing.

I stand corrected and will edit, Thanks!

I find a world of flavor resides in “Plain”.

I agree. So any guesses on why its so obscure? Until Mr Snuff started carrying it, I guess last year, it didn’t show up much. Most of the German webshops had it, but rarely did the US or UK ones. Wilson’s doesn’t even list it on their site, I don’t think. It must have sold pretty well in Germany.

#21 seems to be an export brand like in many other products.

I originally had to but a case of tins to acquire it from Wilsons, same with the silver label snuff. I can only guess that this one is a legacy special order snuff. I was surprised to find it was so plain since the 20 and 22 are so “Special”. BTW I copied the DH over from Daves page at Mr. Snuff. Bad Dave! Good Snuff!
