Wilson's Best Dark

I like this snuff, but I notice a slight ‘mustiness’ that reminds me of ‘dirt’ in the background. Is this a common note that other users of this snuff have noticed? No other snuff that I have tried has quite this background quality to it. (The snuff seems to be fine. While the moisture content to this snuff is rather high, there is no mold of any kind that I can detect in the tin. No, I did not decant this one at all. I am afraid that if I tried that, that some of the excellent bergamot essence would dissipate.) I like this snuff, but is this background note of a slight mustiness common in other’s experiences here?

When I first opened my tin there was some corrosion on the tin. When I say some, I mean all the way around and on part of the lid. I wasn’t worried as I had heard that is common with the more moist varieties of WoS. However when I took my first pinch I got a rather unpleasant aroma; something between dirt and metal. I poured the contents into a clean glass jar, without scraping the corrosion off course. Within a couple of hours I pinched again and was rewarded with a most delightful experience. Rich dark tobacco with plenty of bergamot essence. Try just transferring it to a different container and see if that helps.

@Mr. Nose Thanks. This tin isn’t rusting at all, but I may try that anyway just to see if it helps. Thanks a lot.

I notice that in some ways snuff is like fine wine, just because you smell something different in a mix of aromas doesn’t mean you should write off the smell altogether. Like wine I often will get different smells from snuff than other people but to me that’s part of the enjoyment of both pleasures.

@ourlastdefeat Indeed. :slight_smile:
