Wilsons Best Dark & Wilsons Best SP! Question About The Best Dark

I’m very happy to say I got my hand on some Wilsons Best Dark & Wilsons Best SP. I like both of them, not bad at all. But we will see since I’ve discovered your taste can change at anytime. I’m not sure if the Wilsons Best SP would be recommended by long term snuff enthusiasts, but in my opinion it’s very good. A nice gradual step up toward snuff that has more tobacco in it that can be detected. Plus I love the hint of citrus. The citrus does not overpower the tobacco taste. It’s a very delightful balance between the tobacco and citrus. It’s a little drier then I’m use to, but I’m enjoying it just the same. Wilsons Best Dark is Very nice also! I’m not sure what I’m smelling or tasting in it yet. But I like it a lot also. Maybe someone who has tried Wilsons Best Dark can describe it better then I can? It moist unlike the SP. It’s a great balance what ever it is. I just flushed my nose with saline to see if I could get a clearer. Is it a very slight menthol, eucalyptus maybe citrus, I get a warm feeling in my nose which is different and nice, no burn. Someone please tell me what you smell when you sniff Wilson Best Dark?

Must say I like all of Wilson’s SPs, Best, 100, Tom Buck, Brunswick, Burgundy, Gold Label - they’re all nice yet each is subtly different from the others. I tend to view Best Dark as a dark SP. It does have that underlying citrus taste along with a great tobacco flavour. I notice that on Wilson’s web site it is listed under the SPs so I guess it really is. Coincidentally I’ve been on Best Dark today.

I think the Best SP has a lot of followers Kim, apparently its their best selling snuff and they’ve been in the game since the 1700’s. I mix it with Royal George which is one of their highly perfumed snuffs

I’m love it! I wasn’t sure about what was in the dark even though I salined my nose. I thought maybe I was picking up the citrus, because of the SP. Thanks Ermtony & Snuffster.

I just got a 25g tin of Best SP. I go through that stuff quick. Tom Buck is basically the same except a little stronger flavor. Queen’s Super Strong is like Best SP except finer and drier- but not as fine as HDT. All are very good to me. I really like the F&T HDT. I like in more than Irish HDT#22. I don’t know why- maybe because it’s new. I don’t really like the Old Paris…I’ll keep it until my nose changes and wants some…it happens.

I have sniffed Wilson’s Best SP and J&H SP NO1, both are good but not my favorites. The main reason was the citrus was to subtle for me. So when I found out that Tom Buck was a stronger version I had to try it. I got a 10gram tin and lucky for me because I love the stuff! Tom buck is exactly what I was looking for. Best Dark for some reason smells like it has to much of a floral scent in it. SP doesn’t do that AT ALL, but Best Dark definitely has some. Thats why I don’t like it to much, as I am not a fan of any floral or perfume type snuffs.

Kim! If you like the citrus, you might want to try Wilson’s Queen’s Extra Strong. I absolutely love Best SP as my daily snuff.

Tom Buck is my favorite SP, but I use more Best SP, because I like something a little mellower for all day because then my favorites are more “special” to me. Queens extra strong is good SP- just keep in mind it is a little finer and drier but not nearly like HDT.

I will add these to my “TRY LIST” Wilson’s Queen’s Extra Strong & Tom Buck. I like the dark because it’s moist. I can use drier, but I love moist snuff and it’s dark. I think I may be on the verge of having a new snuff user. I hate to put it this way but my soon to be Ex-hubby smokes Winston 2 cigs back to back. On his birthday I gave him Apricot & Tia Maria which he had tried earlier of mine. He’s one of the people I sit and try snuffs out with. He hates menthol cigs and can’t stand any muscle rub with menthol in it. But was taken by the Apricot. He also enjoyed the tabacco taste in Wilsons Of Sharrow Snuff Rum & Blackberry. He has no intentions of stopping Cigs, and had that old mind set in the beginning. “Grandmother using snuff and the ole musty house smell”. Last night he thanked me again for the snuff for his birthday. I told him I had two more for him to try out. I didn’t find a dark snuff with no flavor, but one is dark and they have a citrus taste. I asked him had he noticed a lack of desire for his Winstons. Because on his birthday he cracked open his Apricot and said there’s nothing like it. Then he asked me for a menthol cig. I was shocked. He would fight of a menthol cig if he ran out, it would have to be stale. He said: “when I have my two favorites I can get by for awhile.” So the Wilsons Best Dark & Wilsons Best SP I took some out a little more then half for me and told him I had something for him to try. Wasn’t sure he would like the citrus so I didn’t give him half but put left them in their original tins Has anyone tried the WILSONS CRUMBS OF COMFORT SNUFF or a few other that were good in your opinion? Plus I find the price just right from Snuff Store for a person just trying(sampling) different snuffs.

Can someone please tell me what Kendall means?

Kendal is a town in north-west England. It’s where both Samuel Gawith and Gawith Hoggarth are based. Illingworth’s used to be there as well.Map link

ermtony thank you so much and the map was great. I thought some type of tobacco like Kentucky Tobacco. I don’t know what I was thinking. Or the way the Tobacco was processed.

I thought it was a type too kim. Espcialy after I read online that another snuff was like a kendall style snuff and was very dry.

As someone already mentioned, Kendal is a place in England. Samuel Gawith (a company in Kendal) created a snuff and called it “Kendal Brown”. (I’m not sure when, but over 100 years ago, anyway) It became very popular, and today I know of at least 3 companys that make a “Kendal Brown”. Sort of like how everyone makes an “SP”. Wilson’s of Sharrow’s Crumbs of Comfort was one of the first snuffs I tried when I took snuffing back up again. (How could you not? Isn’t that the greatest name?) Like someone said, it’s just like Wrigley’s Spearmint gum. As far as the cut and moisture, it’s similar the the SP you tried. Cheers, Java

Crumbs were designed for “Snuffy Charlotte”, and is one of Wilson’s oldest recepies. (can never spell that word:)

I had stayed away from SPs because of the bad burn of G&H kendal brown. I invested 85p on a small best dark and loved it. From that I got some toque original and love both. I think the best dark has a more rounded and sweet citrus like sweet lemon aid while the toque is like tart lemon aid.

I also get a burn from SG’s KB but I do get burn from other snuffs too and I kinda like it. I don’t use enough regularly to know if it would go away. Seems to happen with some snuffs more than others. Strasbourg is another one.
