Wilson's Irish D High Toast

S

Has anyone found a review of this or would you like to make any comments? I searched the forums and looked on snuffreviews but didn’t see any information. Curious to hear what this one is all about. Not much information available on the various Wilson toasts.

E

It’s this one. The name seems a bit variable at times! Not to be confused with the No 20, which is a toasted SP and very tasty as well.

S

Sorry Tony, I should have been more specific. Actually I was talking about #20. It says on the tin Irish D.H. Toast No. 20.

E

Ah! All clear. I see there is no review for that one. (I’d better put that right!). My own notes on it: Rich brown in colour, less finely milled than many toasts but very tasty. Almost a hint of an SP in the flavour.

S

Thanks, Tony. Their website has some descriptions of their various snuffs but it’s incomplete and sometimes very confusing.

E

The No 21 doesn’t appear on the current mail order list from Wilson’s though I have noticed that Tranter’s still offer a No 21.

S

Thanks, guys! I’ll crack open the tin of #20 probably after I finish some other SP I have open.

S

Well I couldn’t resist and needed to try something new again, so I opened my tin of #20. Wow, Ammonia with a capital “A”. This snuff is fresh! With my neverending cold my taste buds are a bit dead but this seems very similar in a way to the Sam Gawith SP Scotch I got from Farley. It has a strong fragrance with an aromatic aspect, is most, and fairly finely ground. I’ll try more tomorrow and see if I can get a better line on the taste. Planning on ordering at least an ounce of the #22 soon.

J

It seems I’m living vicariously through you gents. Do carry on!

S

Likewise, Juxtaposer! Farley, I would prefer numbers but unfortunately their price list uses just the names. Their website has snuffs that aren’t listed in the price sheet, and vice-versa! It can be very confusing. I think a proper catalog is in order.

The Irish High Toast No 22 is a wonderful snuff, I have it with me today. This is one of the snuffs I never want to be without ever. Same goes for Tom Buck. I’m not in love with Burgundy, Prime Minister, Crumbs of Comfort, Irish Coffee etc.

S

Farley, I should have asked which you prefer between the Wilsons #22 and Sam Gawith’s Irish D Original we got with the group buy. Are they similar? I have an ounce of the #22 on the way…

S

Alright then I will chime in once my #22 arrives and I do a comparo!

S

Meanwhile the #20 is a very nice snuff once the ammonia dissapates. It’s clearly an SP type but moist and with a stronger and to me more enjoyable flavor maybe because of the toasting. I don’t like their Best SP but this one I do like! If you like SP snuffs then this is a must-try!

S

Let us know how you like it HRhuffinsnuff when you try it.

Well, I just found this thread because I was looking for some information on the Irish D.H. Toast, #20. At first, I thought I had gotten one of those rare, mislabeled tins. I have another tin of the #22 Irish toast, so I was expecting this #20 to be some variant on that overall theme. But, it’s really nothing like #22 and after reading this thread I’m pretty sure I didn’t get a mislabeled tin. Overall though I like it. It’s got a rich brown color and it’s fairly moist. I do certainly detect the SP base, but its subtle and easy to take.
