William Ross Hedges, a chemist from Birmingham?

K

Can anyone please tell me more about William Ross Hedges, a chemist from Birmingham who made snuff. HEDGES SNUFF L260 'THE SNUFF

K

Thank You!

A

He also invented L260 snuff for people with sinus problems. L260 was the serial number in his prescription book. When I grew up, you could get it all over the North of England. Now, you only see it on line. I have no idea who makes it now, wouldn’t be surprised if it was Poschl, although the name is apparently owned by Rizzla

E

It’s owned by Imperial Tobacco now. Same as J&H Wilson.

A

Ah right, thanks tony. I wonder why don’t see it as much as before?

I

I imagine coal-burning industrialised Victorian cities were not the most refreshing places to live and work - no wonder he developed a Menthol snuff for the use of his customers.

Used to be people used medicated snuffs for congestion and to avoid upper respiratory infections. Now they take pills. More profit for the chemist and more politically correct.
