Hi everybody: I just want you to know that MrSnuff has absolutely no intention of rolling over and giving up. We have been planning a snuff business for 3 1/2 years; in business for two years, selling online for a year and a half. We have jumped through hundreds of hoops of burning fire getting licensed, building ecommerce websites with solid back ends designed for growth (that doesn’t sound right). We have sunk about $250,000 into this and right when we are turning the corner the government tries to cut us off at the knees. I have 4 other employees to consider, their livelihoods and futures, and emotional commitment to this passion. As someone on the other post pointed out, it boils down to economics. We will get the required authorizations and comply with all laws. On the site it will be transparent. You will see the always competitive snuff price, when you select your state you will see the taxes added in, whatever they are for your state. That’s it. My only hope is that you will continue to support us, rather than shift all your business overseas where they may have the opportunity to circumvent these onerous taxes. Point is, everybody is panicking and stocking up with enough snuff to last 3 lifetimes. This is, imho, an over-reaction and is not necessary. Is it not better to get snuff fresh for the factory? I am really sorry that Tom @nicotinerush can’t continue. We are friends as you all know. I understand why he is doing what he is doing, and his loss makes me mad as hell. I know better than most how much effort Tom has put into this. More than the money, it is the sense of powerlessness at having faceless bureaucrats rip out your heart and soul without a moments pause that hurts the most. The snuff community as a whole will lose a very valuable member. It will impact us all, no doubt about that. Having said that, the show isn’t over till the fat lady sings. She’s on the stage warming up, but no warbles yet. Call me an optimist, but I still cling to the belief that we will be able to work it out and Tom will stay in business. Of course he will have to restock…but hey, I can sure help with that! Sorry if I am sounding a little “emotional”. But this whole PACT thing, while serious, is not insurmountable. As long as you gents and ladies are patient with us, we will get it sorted out out. Thanks, as always for your support both financial and moral. Dave
Thanks for the post. It does seem doable. Maybe some extra work, maybe some price increase, but still doable.
I could give a damn about the taxes, Dave. But how are we supposed to get the snuff when USPS will not deliver it?
@csrokes…carrier parrot
@cstokes4: UPS will deliver. It is a ton of extra work for us to get accurate shipping prices (ie weights and physical dimensions of every product on the site, then added together, plus appropriate box size and weight). If we don’t do that it defaults to a higher (outrageous) price. The other alternative is to go flat rate, or have a rough estimate based on weight that does not poll their servers. It will undoubtably be more expensive than USPS, and adult sig will be required, and as a proportion of a small order it will hurt. On the positive side, at least the tracking is real tracking not just delivery confirmation. In addition we will have to implement automated age verification, which is an extra cost but small in the grand scheme of things. It only has to be done once per customer as long as they have a sign in, which is a bit of hassle, but again, do-able.
I certainly hope you are right
Sounds great.
@Mr. Snuff Have you ever thought about combining snus with your snuff business since you will be shipping smokeless tobacco anyway? Many people on this forum use both, and if it comes down to economics, this might make it more viable for all of us!
He has mentioned that before. I’d like to try some of the hard to get snus, like Dholakia snus.
I think that’s a good idea as well. I’ve been wanting to try some but didn’t want to place a large order or pay more for shipping than the product.
If you want cheap snus, see getsnus.com. If you buy 5 cans, you get 1 free can, and shipping is $2.95.
Once we get all this sorted out, snus is in the works. I actually have some Dholakia snus, but until recently (forgive my ignorance) did not realise there was such a thing as loose snus. You can bet it will be on the menu when we get through all this. Swedish Match have been knocking at the door too, as have Klondike and Nordic. Even Davidoff are wanting me to start selling cigars. All is good. We just have to get over this little hump.
Thanks much much for the post MrSnuff! I do feel a little better now.
I would advise turning down the Klondike and Nordic. They may be nice people, but their “snus” is not well received.
Yeah, that stuff is crap. Glad to see you are gonna do the extra work, Dave. I guess I really didn’t need to take those 6 xanax’s to calm myself down.
@tom502: thanks for the heads up. I won’t be launching into anything without input form you guys. It is pointless me stocking something I can’t sell. So first items will be ‘by request’ so at least I know I am investing in a product you guys will actually want. In any case, that is a little way down the road. I won’t be jumping into anything new till all this PACT shakes out.
MrSnuff, what about USPS shipping out of the States: doable? The brokerage fees charged by the courier companies from the States to Canada are staggering.
USPS will ship no tobacco. Doesn’t matter where it’s going.
SHH it is not tobacco it is spiritual incense and aromatics… just a thought. If I was not sick as a dying dog I would not be damned near in tears at the news of nicotine rush but close to it. Both of you are some of my all time fav guys to give money to.
Dave Thank you for the positive outlook on a rather solemn day for snuffdom. ETA: If you were to carry General Wintergreen WP and SG in bulk you would be my one-stop-shop!
