Good Day Fellow Snuffers, Why is it that nasal snuff,…(At least the ones I’ve tried so far, Rooster, Square, etc.), has a more uplifting buzz to it, than say, dipping Copenhagen, or smoking, which for me has a more lethargic or relaxing buzz?
Now those snuffs you mention,(Rooster, Square, etc.), I’d call dual snuffs, as they have a popular oral usage. But to me, the nasal usage of snuffs in general have a better feel good effect, and the moist snuff in the mouth usually just makes me feel ill.
I think the nic in nasal snuff hits faster (and lives the body faster) than dip or snus.
@ tom: Not to mention, IMHO of course, they taste like s***! @Tin: I believe it’s all in the way the nicotine is delivered. Nasally, the nic is delivered quicker. You get an almost immediate boost where as with oral usage, the buzz takes a longer time to be realized. I’m sure others, more astute than I, will chime in on this eventually.
Well, I was never into dipping. I did experiment with it, and with snus, but snus and moist dips made me feel ill. I also dipped some Scotch snuff, and I think they were better. They actually tasted pretty good to me, esp Honey Bee. But the plains also. But I have heard people say opposite that you get a stronger nic buzz in the mouth.
The quick shot is the reason I use snuff. I’m an ex smoker and snus just didn’t give me nicotine as fast as I was used to with cigs. I still love snus, but snuff gets me through those times when I need a quick boost.
I can’t tell you why it is Tin Can Man. but I certainly agree. I get a “lift” from snuff that I do not get from other forms of tobacco.
I am not entirely sure but the nasal cavity is full on tiny blood vessels, these blood vessels help get the nicotine into the blood stream supper quick like…
Nicotine is known to be a stimulant in low quantities and a sedative/slight pain killer in larger quantities .You can see this in smokers: someone needing a buzz will take quick short puffs off a cigarette , not letting much of the nicotine get absorbed. and someone wanting to calm down would inhale slowly and deeply to maximize nicotine uptake. By the time Snus/dip/chew get absorbed you have a sledgehammer worth of nicotine in the blood. Snuff on the other hand has a lower overall quantity of nicotine but it gets to the brain faster. And so you get the uplift.
Thanks everyone for all the great replies! John
also how fast it absorbs effects the buzz as well. Which is why the hooka has one of the most interesting buzzes. Fast like snuff so it stimulates lots of nicotine so it relaxes. Strange but true.
Bespoke Gin & Tonic has one of the best uplifting abilities.
**Disclaimer-I am not a doctor, but I did stay at a holiday inn last night. It all boils down to the delivery system. It’s quite common for drugs (yes, nicotine is a drug) to have different effects depending on the method of ingestion. And of course, the nicotine enters your blood stream quicker through the mucous membranes lining your nose that it does through the skin cells in your mouth. And I’ve never tried nicotine intravenously, (nor do I have any intention to try) but I’m sure it would hit even quicker than snuff.
Actually you’d be quicker to your grave. Intravenous nicotine kills like bullets. One cigarette worth of it is enough to kill you in most horrible ways.
Ok, I know that no one on this site is dumb enough to shoot nicotine, but since Jack there pointed out my liability, and because I live in a very litigious country; I would like to state for the record, I am not advocating IV nicotine use. This activity would likely result in your death and a posthumous Darwin award. Just say NO!
nah it just made all my skin fall off. and turned my eyeballs violet (the white parts).
Talking of delivery systems, I once read that the Nazi war criminal Albert Speer carried a crumbled up Havanna in his jacket pocket to commit suicide with, if he was sentenced to death. Apparently he intended to soak it in a cup of water overnight and drink the resulting liquid. I can’t imagine it doing anything apart from making him vomit?
Could powdered tobacco be made into a smokable highly concentrated rock? Not that I’d wanna do it. Just wonderin’.
It’s quite common for many pipe smokers to add nasal snuff to their bowls of smoking tobacco. Check in with the USENET/Google discussion group: alt.smokers.pipes
