Why do you snuff?

W

Is it to quit smoking? Dipping? Chewing or just because you enjoy it. I’ll be honest I am on my very first tin and would really like to just use snuff as a means of quitting smoking. BUT it is quick unlike cigs/dip/chew. You can’t pop out for a snuff like you can with a smoke or dip/chew. My first tin is Wilsons of Sharrow and I have been w/o a cig for like 5 days. That is with the e-cig, dip and chew lol. Thank you.

M

I started snuffing because I like “unusual” things, I quit (more like reduced amount of cigs smoked from 20-30 per day to maybe a pack a month) just as a nice side-effect of the snuff. Keep it up Whizzie, your lungs will thank you!

S

I use snuff tobacco because I’m a damn gentleman.

T

because I’m a tobacco connoisseur… that’s tobacco dependent. I love the different aromas and the re-freshness pick me up qualities. And oh yea the vitamin N. And I also love the history of snuff and all the things that go with snuff.

W

“I use snuff tobacco because I’m a damn gentleman.” lol good answer!

O

I snuff to keep from smoking. Snus does a good job of maintaining the nic level I’ve become dependent on, but it is boring. Snuff though, well it’s just a flat out delight. Scents, flavors, nicotine, meditative habits…

S

I first tried it just out of curiosity, then about a year later, I decided to quit smoking and used snuff to help with the nicotine cravings. Now I do it because its a great product with plenty of variety and a rather awesome community.

I

I started using snuff because of the EU introduced ban on smoking in covered public places and workplaces. I refuse to stand outside struggling to keep my pipe alight whilst being gaped at by cretins. I have discovered the best way for me to take snuff is to take a deep preparatory breath, and then take short, shallow insufflations allowing the snuff to enter the nostrils but no further. One thing you most emphatically not do is to cover one nostril and take deep snorts - this will cause the snuff to invade the sinuses, hit the back of your throat and blow the top of your head off - tears and snot everywhere! Why do I take it? because it is a pleasurable, smoke-free and civilised means of absorbing nicotine without bothering anybody else.

S

I snuff because I love the smells, the tastes, the history, the elegance, how gentlemanly it is, the idea of a man with discerning taste pulling out his silver snuff box, dressed in fine tailoring, taking a pinch. That idea is wondrous!

P

@Snuffin, you’ve said it all!!! All I can add is: Amen

B

I was offered some, took a pinch and fell in love. Also cures my post nasal drip as a bonus.

S

I just like it for the variety of it I suppose.

W

Imma have to get me a snuff box. Way cool. Thanx for sharing all and good luck!

B

makes my brain feel good. Makes things smell nicer. And it’s fun

F

i dont have to bother going outside for a smoke, my clothes dont stink of smoke anymore, it keeps me calm in stressfull situations, as i drive on motorways a lot of the time at work, it keeps me focused and above all else its enjoyable.

D

To make the world smell precisely as I want it to

J

I snuff because otherwise I am always running out of tobacco.

W

It was pure curiosity for me. Now it’s just a hobby. I’m a snuser at the end of the day but that did bring me to snuff. I could probably live on it but my schnoz is too sensitive, I believe. I like the scents. I like that it’s different. I like that people have no clue what you are doing most of the time. I don’t rely on it for nicotine, but more of an aromatherapy. I just plain like it.

R

I use snuff to cure my nicotine addiction. (if I only had this amazonian mambo jambo snake oil powder…dangit)

Z

I snuff because I love tobacco in all its forms…especially snuff and SNUS as they have helped me quit the cigarette habit.

R

Kind of a combination of curiosity and benefits I had read about. I had pretty much managed to get off cigs by the time I got around to retrying snuff, but still enjoyed pipe smoking and had found snus to be a good way to get a nic hit. But, reading the forums I kept coming across accounts of snuff’s effects on allergies and keeping sinuses open at night. Hence, decided to try it out. In the process, I enjoyed the flavor aspects that I hadn’t encountered before, and it was off to the races! Thus far, the nicotine hit has eluded me, and not sure my nostrils fully enjoy the experience. However, there may be something to allergy effects.

S

I started snuffing because I actually heard about in a class called Drugs in Society, which was basically just a history of drug use, along with their backgrounds and effects. Anyways, under tobacco it listed all the possible forms, and I was sure I’d seen or heard of snuff somewhere, but couldn’t remember, so I looked it up, and it basically played out from there. I had also just quit smoking reefer, and I never liked smoking or any other tobacco products before that, so snuff was my first tobacco love. It still is my only one, really.

B

I am wondering, are you researching or something? Wilson of Sharrow is a very vague first tin. If not I apologize but this is the second thread I have read where that was what you have started with. Most people state what flavor/ or scent they had tried.

W

& BigSnoot McSnuff I don’t get it. It’s my first tin from a smoke shop in Ann Arbor Michigan. Flavor is strong and it is very dry. It is Irish High Toast. No 22. Made in the UK. edit: I edited the post as it made me look like a real ass. Sorry. Didn’t mean to.

S

@ WhiZZlE - He was just wondering what kind of Wilson’s Of Sharrow you had tried. They make so many different kinds (60+ varieties), and its kind of strange to not mention which flavor it is.

T

Because I like it.

O

I started snuffing to quit ciggs but now I just enjoy it. Also it seems it has helped me overcome my dreaded allergies I would suffer from for years whenever the seasons would change. Also its a lot cleaner. God bless nasal snuff.

K

I actually looked up some stuff on How exactly to use the Copenhagen Snuff. Dipped on and off for years but the moist fine ground was like sand in my mouth. Ended up coming across nasal snuff. I was like, Wow, they still make that. So I decided to try it. And voila here I am today. Love the snuff, not really addicted to it but consider it more of a hobby. Love all the different smells, textures, ect. Still take a dip every now and then but just don’t see the need to anymore.

D

Harm reduction, adult enjoyment, s’nuff said! Ken

P

I love snuff because i’m addicted to nicotine and it keeps me off the cigarettes. It’s also an enjoyable habit. Also a cheap habit.

B

What Ken and pfaber11 said.

A

Nicotine is the main thing there but I really enjoy snuffing now! Variety is a good thing but I manage with about 5.

E

I’m just a big lover/fan of tobacco. But snuff is just a great and unique concept, despite its popularity in days of old.

T

I don’t see myself as a nic addict, but I find the snuff experience to be pleasurable(not all snuffs though), but you take a sniff of a fave snuff, and it’s just a great experience, kinda like Rush/Locker Room.

P

Because I can and may!

R

well i looooooooooove tobacco… and i wanted to quit smoking cigarettes for a while now and the snuff was the only thing that actually helped me quit… Taxi and now toque’s Quit and Natural Toast really do the job in delivering the vitamin N… those were the first snuffs that actually helped me make the final push …but like i said before i love tobacco so i’m always looking forward to try new ones as well…forget about gum and patches and mints and all that crap; snuff was the one and only thing that helped me quit smoking and i can still enjoy tobacco ; my lungs are happy my wife is happy and i feel like Tony Montana every time i get a new order in the mail box …i wish i had a bigger nose…LOL

P

@ra.stanit, it’s a good movie you’re refering to and Tony played a brilliant role.

P

The initial reason I tried snuff was curiosity. I’d gotten into pipe smoking and snus as a reduced-harm alternative to cigarettes. But then I kept reading the posts of the snuffers on the SnusOn forum, and their enthusiasm piqued my interest. So I ordered Toque’s “ten tins for the price of nine” deal, and found I enjoyed snuff, too. I snuff for pleasure, and because I like being part of a centuries-old tradition with an image of culture and refinement. But I’d be lying by omission if I didn’t add that snuff gives me the instant nicotine hit that I used to get from cigarettes, but that is noticeably missing with pipes and snus. And, as a former menthol smoker, snuff can satisfy the craving for menthol, too.

A

Always loved old fashioned things and then when I was desperate to end a 30 a day 30 year habit snuff worked like magic as NRT. Im now three years into life as a non smoker purely through substituting snuff. Im a heavy snuff user now but happy with that - I was born to use nicotine and have no intention of giving it up. Snuff for pleasure, addiction, the beauty of the snuff box and the way that you can use it anywhere without feeling like a leper. My advice to new snuffers is get a nice snuff box; it makes the pleasure complete.

G

What Snufster said except the 3years part. I’m still a newbie.

R

Because of the simple pleasures it provides me.

P

Because nothing beats a great pinch of your favorite snuff(s) IMHO

B

Partly the scents, partly that it keeps my post nasal drip under control.

D

Gotta agree on the nicotine hit being instant with snuff. I use snuff and snus to keep away from the cigs. I do enjoy a pipe or cigar depending on the evening though. Anyway I like to joke that snuff helps keep the homicide rate in my locality down. Ken

B

Because when I don’t I get really angery and feel violent as well as my head starts to feel really fuzzy and I can’t focus on much of anything. It keeps me from feeling like everything in the world is analogous to the ole nails on the chalkboard. It’s also very enjoyable and cigarettes suck. Really I don’t understand how you could want a smoke when you’ve discovered snuff.

S

A little over a year and a half, and I have grown to think it’s just a part of me. Not so much because “I’m a damn gentleman” (post #3) ok, maybe.

M

Hmmmm… I’m a Nicotine addict, who doesn’t wish to quit my favourite drug of choice. Because the flavours/scents are appealing. The packaging is usually pretty cool. (except for those d@mnable tap boxes) Because it intrigues and confuses the people around me. It feeds my Steampunk fantasies. I genuinely enjoy the stuff. It makes me happy…

N

When I was a boy, well over half a century ago, my mother wouldn’t let me smoke in the house. I thought someday I will have my own house and I will be able to smoke where I like. Wrong now my wife won’t let me smoke in the house. Since it is often not pleasant in the great outdoors I snuff, at first with resentment but now with gratitude because snuffing is a superior and more satisfying way to source nicotine.

N

+1 because I’m a damn gentleman. I started snuff out out curiosity, mostly. I used it heavily, more-or-less gave it up for a time, then returned with a vengeance when I quit (painlessly) smoking. (I get a lot more out of snuff now) I continue for the nicotine, for the flavour, for the hobbyist/connoisseur element (how excited are you when a new snuff arrives at your doorstep? I get excited just planning future orders!), and for the moment of peace and pleasure, but also for the neat bond I feel (really) with all of you here. I like reading about about what others are snuffing at the moment, or the little rituals we all have when we pinch. We all enjoy our different snuffs in different ways, but we’re sharing the same experience. We’re like a family. A big, spread-out, occasionally trolled family. Cool! (I also agree with everything snuffster posted above. I only smoked for 6-7 years, though)

S

I originally started snuffing because I was browsing a website that sold snorters (this is BEFORE I tried snuff, mind you), and noticed they were sold for “use with snuff”. This got my attention, and after a couple of days lurking this forum, I made my first order. A tin of McChrystals’ O&G and a tin of Toque Original. Eventually, I quit smoking without even…trying to quit. I just used snuff all the time. While I bounce back and forth with tobacco products, I can honestly say that snuff is my all time favorite. None other can give me the intense calm that it does. Even at times when my snuffing was at a minimum, I still checked this site daily. You guys are awesome, and I have to completely agree with NelsonPipeClub. We’re like a family. ~Ken

S

I snus to maintain my nicotine levels and satisfy my cravings for cigarettes, and snuff for pleasure. The less I snuff the more pleasureable the experience - My first snuff after a few days abstinence from it is just bliss

H

I (like a damn fool) smoked cigarettes for 22 years, started at age 23. Smoked approximately 2-3 packs a day for the last dozen years. Quit flat out with snuff and have no interest whatsoever in going back to smoking. I snuff because of the economics (saving lots of money) and the pure pleasure I derive from it (couldn’t never say that about the smokes). There’s a huge appeal to me that snuffing is something so old it’s been forgotten. It’s up to us to revive it!
