I guess the title says it all. Do you put decorations up or not? Do you feel pressure from family? Do you send cards just because you got one ? Do you spend loads, or not much? Do you eat loads, or not? Is your TV rubbish I could go on, but…
Do you put decorations up or not? Every year, inside and out. Do you feel pressure from family? Nope, mostly from work since we are off for a few days. Do you send cards just because you got one ? I really need to start doing cards. I don’t get any, so it’s no biggie. Do you spend loads, or not much? Yep, usually spend a shit ton of cash, but what the hell you only live once. Do you eat loads, or not? Who doesn’t. There is only a few times a year that I can get away with eating this much! Is your TV rubbish Not really.
Do you put decorations up or not? Just the basics. Lights outside, Tree inside Do you feel pressure from family? No no no Do you send cards just because you got one ? I don’t send any cards Do you spend loads, or not much? Not too much Do you eat loads, or not? Yea, it’s great Is your TV rubbish I don’t watch TV
Do you put decorations up or not?NoDo you feel pressure from family?NoDo you send cards just because you got one ?NoDo you spend loads, or not much?NoDo you eat loads, or not?NoIs your TV rubbishYesHave a nice Christmas all. From Scrooge!
Do you put decorations up or not? Mostly in the house and try to put the lit tree near a window Do you feel pressure from family? Not really. I’ve tried to keep my children interested in old fashioned things-shooting marbles, BB guns, board games, books, dirt bikes–(I know they’ll get into video games sometime but why rush it?). So I try to keep it simple around Christmas. Do you send cards just because you got one ? No, I always liked to get a card in the mail-not as exciting as a small box from Nic Rush. I write out about 30. It’s kind of a stupid costly thing to do in this day and age with the technology we have:maybe that’s why I like it! You’re receiving a persons thoughts and time…you can’t put a price on that. Do you spend loads, or not much? Not too terrible much.I always try to make something for at least one of my kids each year-(a little stool with their name on it, a little workbench, or a toolbox-something they’ll know I took the time to make -doesn’t really have to cost much. Hopefully it would last till they’re much older. Do you eat loads, or not? You’ll never catch me eating a load!LOL sorry, that’s kind of crude…Yes, I tend to eat a bit more if it’s available in front of me. Is your TV rubbish It’s got a decent picture, not a ‘flat screen’. I got rid of cable and have DTV which gets a lot more public tv. I do miss alot of the sports and out door shows, though. Thanks for the survey, Iceman. You have a decent Christmas
We have a little pine tree which grows in a large pot. It’s 7 years old already and only 1.5 meters tall, sort of a bonsai. We decorate it for our grand children every year with lights and all. There is no pressure from the family, only the kids receive gifts. Christmas cards are out of fashion since we have internet now. We only spend money on gifts for the kids and nice food. Not to much because I don’t think Christmas is special. I always eat loads, Christmas or no Christmas I don’t watch TV except for sports and comedies. The rest is just a lot of crap. But Christmas is a sad time for me. I see so many worried people. Worried about what to buy, where the money will come from, if everyone will be happy with their gifts, credit cards, end January’s bills, will the food be enough/good enough. And then we have millions of poor people whos kids also want gifts and nice food but there is no money. I see them in the shops, staring at all the beautiful toys and they are kids, they do not understand. It’s then when I wish there was no bloody Christmas. So far, as from 1st of December, 444 people died on our roads already. This is supposed to be a time of peace and joy and to celebrate the birth of Christ, the Saviour. But people don’t even think about it. Christmas has been commercialised and that’s it. I don’t want to be part of it. And the date is all wrong in any case because Christ wasn’t born in December.
Do you put decorations up or not? Well yes, we usually have a huge tree with candels and everything, love it. Do you feel pressure from family? Not really, I just like to give something, so Im buying a good rum (el dorado) for my father, some books for my mother and a cd for my little brother. But those are just symbols really, the best part is sitting in the living room with your family a beautiful tree and just enjoy being together. Do you send cards just because you got one ? No Do you spend loads, or not much? Well I spend quite alot for my budget but anyway its for people I love so it worth it. Do you eat loads, or not? Oh yes. Is your TV rubbish. No idea. Its getting christmassy here Ill post a pic of the tree when its done
REAL lit candles, GB?
no there electrical, also because some little children will be visiting us so its too dangerous. Id like real ones thoug, very old school
ba-bumhug its the wifes job to be merry and crap
I’m with you Pieter. I’m a pragmatist. If you don’t enjoy Christmas, don’t participate, but if you do, enjoy yourself. As a religious festival it is a time of celebration, but as a person who doesn’t partake in any form of religion, I find celebrating the festival in the Victorian fashion a bit hollow. I don’t send or receive bought gifts usually (this has been a family agreement for years - we all got fed up with the commercial aspect of Christmas), but we make Christmas puddings, Sloe Gin and mince pies for everyone. No one is stressed about it in my family. We are just happy that we get the opportunity to see each other and have a break from work for a few days. I think there are more important things in life to worry about than whether Santa will fit down the chimney or whether the weather will be white. Anyway, seasonal greetings to everyone at Snuffhouse and I hope everyone has plentyof their favourite snuff, snus, chew, plug, dip, cigars, pipe tobacco or fags to see them into the new year.
I think I love you PP. xD
Jewish, so no to all the questions.
@Goldenboy…?!?
I was expressing my gratitude for your humorous remarks with a mind slightly affect by scotch, so you mustn fear for me climbing through your window.
whew! thought I was on the wrong kind of snuff site for a moment there.
jeah it was a bit snuson wasnt it. boy this drunken posting has to stop. back to christmas! by the way what are your answers to those questions ukiceman?
Do you put decorations up or not? All the time just not christmas decorations. Do you feel pressure from family? Not much. I live pretty close to my family. So I don’t feel any extra pressure during christmas. Do you send cards just because you got one ? Nah never send cards. Sometimes I make them though. Do you spend loads, or not much? This is the first year I have. Mostly because it’s the first time in a long time I’ve not been struggling to make the ends meet. I may make a big tobacco order. Do you eat loads, or not? USed to. Not so much now. Again I’am not having the days I can’t eat so foods just not that exciting. Is your TV rubbish Nah It’s not hooked up to cable so it shows me only what I make it show me. Which helps in a lot of ways. Damn it haven’t wanted cable since the invention of the dvd and internet.
I find it pretty stressful. I always feel like there’s enough in my plate already. At the same time I do enjoy it when it arrives. x-mas is best when your kids still believe. so for you that still have youngsters, suck up these magical moments. Decorations- yes, varies from year to year. Never get too crazy 'cuz you just have to put it all away soon. Pressure from family- no more than usual, which is plenty. Cards- wife takes care of that or it would never happen. Spend loads- see answer #2 Eat loads- oh yeah! TV rubbish- isn’t that a given? Now that you brought it up, my daughter introduced me to Neg’s Urban Sports on youtube. I see you have some “quality” programming in the UK too. lol Everyone have a great x-mas!, or holiday season if you don’t celebrate x-mas.
@Asherael Good tidings that, on your invitation! Do you put decorations up or not? Not Do you feel pressure from family? No longer. Took awhile but they finally got the idea Do you send cards just because you got one ? Nope Do you spend loads, or not much? Same old month to month Do you eat loads, or not? Not Is your TV rubbish? Of course it is! I’m in North America, when isn’t it rubbish! Better a spirit of goodwill all the year long then on occasion as societally dictated…
Bah, humbug
We like to get together and sing xmas songs. We might not be in tune but we still rock!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Ubem25WyN8
haha, now that is funny,PP!! Fire baaAAADDD!
Bah, humbug
Do you put decorations up or not? Oh yeah, have to do that. We always get a real tree and put lights on the house. Somehow it’s an unwritten law the lights always go up after dark, and usually also ends up being the coldest and windiest night. Don’t know how that works but I’ve yet to put up a single bulb in daylight. Do you feel pressure from family? This can be rough, not so much because family pressures me so much as watching them drive themselves nuts. When I was a kid, my mom would go plumb loco trying to get everything together, and now I see my wife doing the same thing. I’ve always said, I’d gladly take the tree, the lights, the cookies and cakes and cards and set them all on fire if it means people would just relax and enjoy themselves. It has been getting better though… Do you send cards just because you got one? I never sent cards, but now I’ve a family so my wife does the card-writing. My penmanship is horrible; even my signature is illegible. Do you spend loads, or not much? I used to; if I had it to give I gave it. Money’s a little more snug these days, so I have to be more careful. Do you eat loads, or not? Hehehe, I don’t have to wait until Christmastime to do that! But yes. Traditionally we eat pierogi and kielbasa at Christmas, and hell, I challenge anybody not to eat loads o’ that! Is your TV rubbish Heck, I don’t have time to watch TV right now. I’ve got DVR, though, so I reckon I can record what’s good and ignore what’s not…
Went to India several years back specifically to escape Christmas. (Fortunately the BA strike has been called off this Christmas thus allowing others to flee as I did in 2006). No cold weather, no commercial razzmatazz, no blaring Christmas music, no Queen droning on about another Annus Horribilis, no cheap tinsel, vulgar lights, drunken relatives, unpleasant brats, soggy brussel sprouts and no Santa Claus. Bliss.
We still break our oplatek on Wigilia (Polish tradition) and I just plain love Christmas. I’m not much of a religious guy anymore but I still love the tradition of Christmas. Now that I have 2 little girls it has renewed my passion for this time of the year. I went off of it for a while but I’m back on board now. I say “Merry Christmas” to people I meet and I have to note so far only 2 people have said it back to me. Most say “Happy Holidays” or just a plain “you too” . Ugh. We put lights up and a tree and my wife likes the indoor decorations, for me I think seven Santa dolls is more than enough but I have given up trying to fight that battle. No pressure. I love to have the day at my house because I love cooking a huge meal for as many people as I can fit. Usually do a massive turkey on the grill and outside of frying it in peanut oil, grilling is the bomb-diggedy. Takes forever, but it’s well worth it. Spent nearly seventy dollars on postage this year. Down a bit from last but I’ve noticed that people are starting to do e-cards more. I think I’ll do that next year because cards just get thrown away anyhow, even though I like displaying them over an archway bet/ our kitchen and dining room. Don’t spend much on gifts. I eat a good bit on those days but it’s been getting more sensible as I get older. Is your TV rubbish??? TV is always rubbish.
Ah, Wesołych Świąt, wickedkitchen! For us it wouldn’t be Christmas without some pickled herring and a shot of Sobieski vodka. But of course, we always like Sobieski vodka at our house, hehehe…
My wife and her family still laugh when I put a boiled egg in my borscht. I just fart at them later.
Midnight, I agree 100%
I guess Christmas can be as commercial as you make it. I know what you’re saying, MM. When you tell your children of Santa, do you teach them by doing this that you can’t always believe your parents OR that they should believe there is some things in life to hope for, random kindness, etc? That’s one to think about! I don’t know the answer…
Do you put decorations up or not? I went old=old-school last year and put it up Eve of. Do you feel pressure from family? No, they’re richer than me. Do you send cards just because you got one ? I shake the people’s hand next time I see them. Do you spend loads, or not much? One go this year, although a surprise box from Swords of Might helped, so I guess two go’s but one delivered. Just at budget. Do you eat loads, or not? I found some organic eggnog this year. A tall skinny box every year. To the dome. Is your TV rubbish My set up in the room is laughable, but works. 17" lcd PC monitor for the 360, a digital box converter for a 5-1/2" tube for Jimmy Kimmel.
@wickedkitchen: Oh yes, but nothing beats a big bowl of zurek wielkanocny (that’s Polish easter soup to all of you out there in TV-Land). That’ll produce enough natural gas to run the furnace for 3 days…
@ James…now thats funny!
Well said, MM
Christmas stinks!! It’s a time to go to parties with people I normally would not hang out with and participate in forced conversations with these people I share no interests with. I always end up gaining 5-10 lbs during the holiday and end up spending hundreds of dollars that I normally would save! Oh well…the things that get me through are the beautiful tree, special snus & snuff, eggnog w/ lots of rum, my son’s smile while he rips open presents and the vacation from work and I love watching cheesy Christmas movies on TV! Oh and my parents visit for a week…I guess I’ll add that to the ‘benefits’ of Christmas.
Do you want to live another year??? Bow down to your god and give him all that you have,
@Juxtaposer: I used to be an angry young man too. It fades with age.
quote; I used to be an angry young man too. It fades with age. that why they call us “old farts”
I have a test. Every morning I look up, then I look down. If I am looking down at the ground and not up at the ground, it is a good day.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUw0OpMNrmg Some of you may find this amusing…I did!
@PP “that why they call us “old farts”” or OlderThanDirt (-;
I’m only angry when I drink. I think I was making a religious comment there. You know…rebirth, renewal, etc. I don’t know I was super drunk. My Christmas party was fun. A lot of new snuff takers. At least three are hooked.
Oh I love Christmas, even when it is so commercialized. I still love the cheerfulness of the holiday. Sadly, I hadn’t had a proper one in years…
I agree that, for the sake of my grand children, I will continue to “uphold” Christmas, same as with the tooth fairy and other kids stuff. The joy it brings to them is also my joy. But it will aslo remain a sad time for me because of millions and millions of children who do not even have food while millions of rands/pounds/dollars etc are waisted on stuff that only last from 8am until breakfast.
Pieter,lLeave the tooth fairy out of this! Can’t I keep one belief sacred??? Seriously, that’s probably the worst part of Christmas–not what the little fellers GET, but the knowledge of what they DID’NT get for Christmas and what others got. It can be sad.
@ Pieter and Bart. and everyone else for that matter… Please find a charitable organization that takes NO administration fees for you to give generously to. There are even some that will match your donation. In Chicago we have the Chicago Tribune Holiday Fund. 100% of the $ donated goes to help people and the Tribune matches the donations so your $ goes twice as far. Remember to give generously and EARLY.
Do you put decorations up or not? Only a tree with some lamps at home. At work our secretary does that. It looks like she enjoys it. Do you feel pressure from family? No Do you send cards just because you got one ? Not at all. This is not my thing. I only send some SMS to few people on the day of Christmas. Do you spend loads, or not much? I don’t spend anything. I dont like overprised useless things and shops crouded with brainwashed by the ads people. I buy everything I need a month before Christmas. Do you eat loads, or not? Oh YES! I eat like a BIG PIG! And I also drink bottles with vodka! Is your TV rubbish Absolutely YES! The Radio is the same bullshit. On December I don’t watch TV at all, and listen to the radio only for the morning news. I like the Tradicional Christmas. The point is to spend some good moments with your family. This is the day of the year when the whole family gathers on one place, no matter where they are. The commercial version is not for me. I get annoyed by the TV and the Radio shouting at me “buy this, buy that…” like its the end of the world if I don’t buy. On the rest of the time going on some stupid shows and films, supposed to be funny. So I just turn off them. The shops are the same thing - overcrowded and everything with higher price. I just refuse to go shopping on Cristmas.
I might reward myself this Christmas as it is one year since I decided to put a stop to the coffin nails and take up snuff instead. I feel much much healthier for it. After a year my lungs feel great and I feel less fatalistic about things. Perhaps a bottle of Laphroaig and a few tins of my favourite snuff are in order this Christmas. Maybe I will have a bowl or two of Squadron Leader in my pipe. What the heck. As for TV at Christmas, excuse my language, but it’s utter crap in the UK.
The best Christmas strategy for me, my family and friends is very simple. Guaranteed NO stress and the Greatest enjoyment of the world. We buy our supplies of food, drinks, music and movies a month before Christmas. We also buy the gifts a month earlier. Thats how we have only pure enjoyment with no stress! Some friends and relatives can play some instrument, usually a guitar. Now that is really funny to have some drinks and sing some songs with funny dirty lirycs. And from time to time telling funny real life stories about the clogged mainstreets and the funny crazy people struggling in the shops we’ve seen during the refreshing walk out! Now that is funny! Ha-HA! It seems that TV brainwashes the society and drives it to extreme stupidity! Merry Christmas to All ! P.S. I’m taking seriously a bottle of vodka and a tin of Dholakia Lime & Lemony right now. Huh I love vodka with lemon… my brain is going to shut down at any moment. Bed prepared…
clears a path to the toilet for Lyubo…just in case.
@ Sandy130674 - Laphroaig is FANTASTIC! I usually get a bottle on Christmas and it’s a complete marvel each and every time.
What is Laphroaig? It sounds good.Ha-ha I’m experienced drinker and don’t need to rush to the toilet after a bottle. But I used to when I was younger and learning to drink. With some colleagues are wondering now what kind of tree to buy for Christmas. What trees do you have? At work we have a plastic artificial tree. Our boss loves plants and hates the idea of killing a real tree for decoration. Last year I bought a plastic tree too, it can be used many years but it don’t have the nice scent of a pine tree. Is there any snuff with a pine tree flavour?
Islay Malt Whisky
Da Kralingse A/P is supposed to be a heavy pine scent. I’m not sure, I’ve never had it.
Alpina.
