Which Toque flavours you don’t like?

J

I think we can all agree that Toque makes great snuffs and that we like most of the flavours. But which are the ones you didn’t like? For me it is Pomegranate, which I love as real fruit, but the snuff tasted really artificial and it was little too sweet for me. The only other was Lavender, but it’s good, I just don’t like the smell of real lavender. I was surprised that I even liked peanut butter in snuff form, as I quite hate it otherwise. Also, sorry for all the commas I squeeze everywhere, it’s just too hard for me to write without using long and complicated sentences

G

The Flavors I don’t like are the ones that are not available. I Love them all, maybe not today, but tomorrow, or the next day it fits right in, and makes my nose sing, La La La. Ed

F

i bought a bullet of cheese and bacon out of curiosity and i found i liked it, i also didnt like the pomegranate or the champagne but! im glad to say that all the others i like, well, the ones ive bought so far :@)

C

You don’t like your florals, Roderick? I must say that I can’t stand florals, but I love Toque Rose. The one that doesn’t agree with me the most is Espresso. I haven’t had Lavender or Violet, even though I own the darn things.

P

Pomegranate is one of my top favourites! I’m still waiting for a Toque snuff I don’t like.

C

The only one I sorta don’t like is the Espresso. It tastes good going in, but the aftertaste is unpleasant to me. I do like it blended with others, like toffee or chocolate though.

H

I don’t dislike it, but the one i don’t like as much as the others is the Violet. Its a bit too intense for me, but i think mixing it 50/50 or 33/66 with the vanilla might mellow it out a bit. Im from the USA, but I tried some of the parma violet candies from Totally wicked UK’s parma violet eliquid promo. Those tasted amazing and very fruity, not so overpowering violet aroma. I believe there might have been vanilla in the candies though, so thats why im thinking of blending with it. Lavender however, i do like a lot. Lavender is the fragrance that my grandmother used to burn as incense cones back when i was a kid so it brings back memories as she is no longer with us today. That being said the violet snuff is pleasant for sure, just not one of my top 10 if you will. If you dont like the cheese and bacon Roderick you must have had some snuff tester that did, because its super well balanced and the smokiness of the tobacco (latakia perhaps?) comes in well with the bacon flavor, also when i’ve over-sniffed and had some hit my throat it had a salty taste to it almost like the real thing. I hate fake bacon flavor (precooked spray on fast food bacon) And the snuff really doesn’t taste false to me.

W

Not trying to kiss Roderick’s arse here but I like every Toque. My favourites are Lime Toast, Rose, Coke and Whisky and Honey. I’m not keen on the Raspberry plain or menthol but then again I’m not keen on raspberries, but still very good snuffs both of them. Stefan

X

Only one I didn’t like was the Cheese & Bacon. A few others are not winners with me, but also not unpleasant. Then about 10-15 of them are “must always have on hand” snuffs.

S

I love almost every Toque Snuff. Espresso is one that I gave away because I didn’t really taste espresso, more like dirt to me. Otherwise they are all good (I’ve tried about 25 of them so far). Not sure on the Spanish Gem yet - it’s a bit sweet, but I may end up liking it with more use. Whisky & Honey is the very best I think. A pinch of Menthol followed a few minutes later with some Peach is fantastic (not good mixed though for some reason).

B

I didn’t care for Coke and forgot about the Espresso. Nope, didn’t care for that one either. OT- I think SP Extra is the best SP ever. Even compared to WoS and McChrystals.

S

Pretty sure I’m all alone on this but the only flavor I never cared for was Whiskey and Honey.

X

@ Spyro: that one had to grow on me a lot. It was packed so tightly, but fluffing it and airing it really seemed to help it. I quite like it now.

A

The only one I don’t care for is Absinthe, although I still think its a great snuff. That is a sign of real quality I think; even the stuff you don’t like can be appreciated. I’m glad a few more grinds came along and if Roderick does a ‘Wit and Wisdom’ as far as I’m concerned the catalogue will be complete.

S

I’ve tried all the Toques except Cheese & Bacon, because I don’t like (or eat) meat products. Pomegranate is by far and away my least favourite - too sweet and musty for me. The Apricot, Espresso, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Vanilla, Toffee, Violet, Spanish Gem and Coke flavours don’t do much for me either. I find with Toque that I either love the flavours or I hate them. Fortunately the rest I love (especially Whisky & Honey, Peach, Lavender, Natural Toast, Quit, Natural, Original, SP Extra, Menthol and Grapefruit - when it’s fresh of course).

B

“I think we can all agree that Toque makes great snuffs and that we like most of the flavours.” Tad presumptuous isn’t it ? I’m sure there are plenty of folks who would disagree with that.

B

Sure that maybe true brad but I think it fits more into the catagory of tact. Like it’s more like he’s saying some of your snuffs I hate but don’t take it the wrong way. So I’ll but it this way hate the peanut butter. I don’t even know what it is that I hate about it. I just hate it. Kind of like that one kid I went to school with. I could never figure out what it was but he just annoyed me same with the scent of that snuff. P.s. I sincerely do just mean that I really think it’s just a tactfull act not meant to be a statement of fact. I.e. I’am not trying to bust anyones balls just saying that’s how I see it.

P

Absinthe. I got a big ol’ tin of it and I can’t stand it.

J

@Pike: Try mixing it with some Coke, it tastes just like gingerbread

X

@ Pike: there is always the trade thread.

B

I don’t like florals. I don’t like most menthols. Those are not exclusive to Toque. So I won’t count those. There are only two Toque flavors I hate, Berwick Brown and Lime Toast. I know I’m one of a very few that hate BB, but UUGGHH!

I

I don’t like sweet or floral of any snuff and haven’t tried C&B So for me it was BB.

K

“Tad presumptuous isn’t it ? I’m sure there are plenty of folks who would disagree with that.” Really, BradMajors? Point me to them so that I may slay them after causing them to suffer unspeakable torments. Seriously though. . .I am sitting at my desk after having JUST received my package of 10 10g tins with some untried Toque flavors. (Thanks Roderick!) I replaced some of my usuals like Quit and Natural, but got some new ones. . .Berwick Brown (to die for!), Absinthe (intriguing, so far), and Lime Toast (not sure yet) for example. I’ve not tried things like Peanut Butter or Bacon and Cheese, but I’ve tried many of the others. So far the only Toque that I am “iffy” about is still St. Clement. It’s that wet dog aroma that I don’t care for (and that Roderick loves. . .yeah, I remember your Vouvray comment *g*). I get the same thing from Toast and Marmalade. I do still pinch them on ocassion though and can’t say that I detest them. Perhaps they will grow on me. It is a testament to the maker’s skill that, as many here have said, one can appreciate the quality of a Toque snuff even when one doesn’t particularly care for it.

C

kyrios, I find the St Clements to be a better mixer than straight-up. A bit in fruit snuffs adds a good “zing” and mixed with the Dholakia Swiss Chocolate makes an awesome chocolate-orange. A little goes a long way too.

K

Hmmm. . . I have a couple of fruit snuffs and some Dholakia Swiss Chocolate on hand. I will have to experiment this evening if I can keep my hands of the Berwick Brown. Thanks much for the tip, Carol!

B

liked all I have tried. Blueberry just didnt seem to smell that strongly of blueberry to me so thats the only one i didnt enjoy as much. But it was traded for absinthe which I did like very much.

S

I wasn’t nuts about Coke, but that’s more because I wanted it to be more pronounced. I may have to order a 50g bulk bag to see if I like it more fresh.

C

Coke is one of my top favorites. I store it in the freezer, and the first cold hit after filling my tin is the best!

B

@kyrios: Well, there’s me for a start ! Torment away. I don’t like most of the Toque range - none of the fruits, the menthols, the SPs, the florals, the Natural, Chocolate, Toffee, Espresso, Peppermint nor the Vanilla. And I too really dislike both Spanish Gem and Toast and Marmalade due to the overly sweet orange flavour. There’s a few that I don’t mind but probably wouldn’t reorder in a hurry - Coke, Champagne, Quit. It’s easier to list the ones which I do like and which I’ve ordered a few times - Absinthe, Peanut Butter, Whisky and Honey, Natural Toast, Bourbon. And I really like both the Christmas Pudding and the Cheese and Bacon. Thinking about the above, I suppose I’m just not much of a fan of the regular Toque tobacco base unless the flavourings are particularly tasty. I haven’t tried the Berwick Brown or the Lime Toast yet, I suspect I may like these too.

R

So far, I have enjoyed every toque snuff I have tried.

N

The only one I don’t like is Lime Toast. It tastes like those old-fashioned green Christmas candies, and I never liked them as a kid.

S

Carol, I do the same thing with the Coke, use it right out of the freezer. I also like the Cherry Menthol when its ice cold. I just wish the Coke flavor would last a bit longer.

K

I’m trying the Lime Toast for the first time and, sadly, not liking it much yet. It smells like a scented disinfectant cleaner of some type to my nose.

B

Sort off topic I still think the champagne should be called grape. I love it but I think it’s grape.

X

@bob: I think you have to give Roderick a bit of poetic licence on that one. Absinthe could just as easily be called anise and Espresso called coffee, etc. Its all just to give them fun names.

Z

I’m not exceptionally fond of Chocolate or Absinthe. Lime Toast is my favorite FWIW.

B

I agree. Xander. However I really still think grape would be a better discrpritor. Esspresso I like that better then coffee. I guess I’am saying it’s my personal feeling that I like grape better then champagne. It’s probably because I agree with the old monks and still think that blind monk Dom Perrigon(or however his last name is spelled) done fucked the fuck up when he accidently made champagne. I know that’s not a popular opinion but it may explain why I think grape is better name then champagne. I don’t actualy think roderick should listen to this advice but he still needs to make a black pepper snuff.

K

@Bob: I think the Champagne, while not champagne per se, is definitely not just grape but white wine grape. It strikes both myself and my partner as the aroma we’ve experienced at wineries that we’ve visited. . .grapes and yeast and wood and some undefinable “something.” Even if not called Champagne it should be called Wine, in my opinion.

P

I don’t dislike any of the Toque snuffs. I just like some more than others.

A

Cherry,Cherry Menthol,Espresso and Violet

B

I hope the plain menthol is stronger than the Cherry Menthol.

B

oooooooh yes it is. As compared to other menthols I’ve tried its 6-7/10.

B

Just what I wanted to hear after placing an order for the menthol…thanks bish777

M

Well, after being extremely pleasantly surprised by, and falling utterly head over heels for Toque’s Vanilla, WnH, and Quit, I do have to say, I have found the rest of the line I’ve tried so far a little lacking. Might just be that I’ve been loading up my expectations too high. For example, Espresso. It seems exatly the same as WoS Irish Coffee to my beginner nose, albeit with a finer grind. And I was really disappointed with that one. I guess I was just expecting a more pronounced espresso ‘umph’ from Toque, as it is. Another thing, with Toffee, Spanish Gem and Peanut Butter, the flavors just seem so faint. I didn’t get anything really with Toffee, and the two others only lasted for around 30 seconds. It might be I’ve oversaturated my olfactory senses with the more powerful snuffs. It might be that my sense of smell just isn’t quite there yet. I have tried them with a “clean nose”, albeit only at around 20h or so. I’m not saying they are bad snuffs by any means, seeing as there are quite a few snuffhousers who swear by those flavours, but they just don’t seem to do anything for me. I guess I’ll just give them a bit of time, and get back to them sometime later.

S

@Mittens - I found Toffee and Peanut Butter to be ‘weak’ when I snuff indoors, but if I take a pinch outside I get a very strong flavour from both of them. It might be worth a shot.

M

Well, that gives me two variables to work with, level of oxygenation and air moisture. Indeed, worth a shot.

P

I find that if flavor is fading, just walking into a new room or walking outside and back in again later refresh the smell quite a bit. I am also a bit disappointed with the strength of flavor in Peanut Butter and Espresso, but I still love the taste that is there!

N

Try the peanut butter orally. It has a good flavour and feels to my mouth like it has ground up peanuts in it.

P

I’ve never tried oral tobacco… that sounds horrid. Do you move it around your mouth or leave it on your gums/lips?

N

Put it between your bottom lip and gum and let it sit there. It takes some getting used to but the nic hit is quite satisfying. PS: don’t fiddle with it or you will have loose snuff all over your mouth.

C

It’s funny how tastes are different. To me, the toffee is a must-have.

H

To me the Spanish gem is one of the richest flavors. I haven’t tried to dip the snuff at all but i used to dip Copenhagen in the service, and have used Los snus as well. Do you bake it like a snus before you put it in?

N

snuff doesn’t have enough moisture to bake a pris. Traditionally it is just poured loose into the bottom lip. Of course it requires some spitting so have a spit cup ready.

X

You can add water to make it snus-like. Just add a drop at a time to a portion. I’ve done this with scotch snuffs.

M

Ok, I feel like I have to rectify my previous statement. Toque Espresso vs WoS Irish Coffee? As far as coffee snuffs go, it’s a no contest. Toque Espresso comes out on top, hands down. I guess it was just a case of time making the memories sweet with WoS. Toque Spanish Gem? Still not getting it, still heavy ammonia after a serious airing. But strangely, I find myself reaching for this tin more often than the others! What eldritch trickery and witchcraft is at play here?!?! Goes on my “25g tins to get” list. Toque Peanut Butter? Smells like peanuts in the tin, tastes like salty peanuts (tried it, after someone here recommended it on some thread or another) in the mouth, but I still don’t get any peanuts once it’s up my nose. I am utterly and properly mystified. I went out after sniffing this, and for some strange reason I got green pea soup and mustard? Freaked me out.

S

I enjoy toque occasionally but I am quite dissatisified at the sameness of them all. the same grind, color, etc etc. it becomes quite boring after a while.

B

@Mittens: Strange how everyone’s nose is different ! For me the peanut butter has a deliciously strong scent in the nose which is uncannily like peanut butter. Salty, nutty and sweet. On the other hand I can barely detect the fruit flavours in the Toque offerings.

B

The other day, I took Carol’s advice and stored my tin of Toque’s Coke in the freezer. Last night I revisited this flavor on ice and actually enjoyed it. Very good! I still can’t get myself to enjoy the Cherry Menthol. I still stand my ground on the Toast&Mamalade…no.

P

I haven’t yet found a Toque I really dislike. There are a few that I think are just so-so, but they’re not bad, just not suited to my tastes, or not what I’d hoped they’d be. Could happen with any product. But having said that, there are probably a few I’ll never buy, like Absinthe, since I dislike any kind of anise or licorice flavoring.

S

I know what you mean about anise and licorice, they tend to make me nauseated. Strangely tho, Poschl Lowenprise is an exception for me and goes over well.
