OK so I am a big fan of snuff, but have found that some snuffs causes my nose to run for ages after using. It was driving me mad until I found that Toque whiskey and honey actually dried my nose up quite a lot. I don’t snuff all that much, and I know that many snuffs do cause an increased nasal discharge (god I hate that term!), but does anyone else have any snuffs that they recommend that dry up, or at least don’t excessively irritate, my mucous membranes. Thoughts appreciated, Regards Steve
Steve, Mostly medicated snuffs( Menthol / peppermint -ish ) make your nose run…
Toasts are good for drying. You may have some picking to do afterward. The residue flakes off in sheets! Railroad Mills, despite having a steam train on the package is not one for making the nose run like one. Schmalzlers I find rather runny.
For me there seems to be no rhyme or reason to which ones make my nose run, most menthols will do it, but a couple don’t. Most SPs do not but some do. Seems to be more about grind and base tobacco than flavor, but even that doesn’t always matter for me. Some toasts make more mucous than a menthol. So I guess my advice is try them all and note which ones don’t give you problems.
I know Klostermischung turned me into a slobbering mess.
thanks for the replies, anyone got any suggestions re toasts 4 relative newbies
F&T High Dry Toast Wilson’s Irish High Toast No. 22 Samuel Gawith Irish D Light or Irish D Original Gawith Hoggarth Irish D All good, all tasty, all slightly different. My own preference is in the order above (F&T first).

They are all equally challenging, but equally rewarding once you master the technique.
I think Toque Whiskey and Honey is easier to take than most toasts, but the again I use a tin of American Scotch every month so all toasts seem easy to me.

Toque Peanut Butter and Bernard Feinst - awesome combo (70/30), no nasal issues for me. HoneyBee and Carhart’s I put in the same category, also a combo (50/50). The only runnies for me are Pari, Santo Domingo, and RR Mills Maccoboy.

Ah… I forgot to include the Toque Natural Toast. For me that would probably come after the No. 22. I wasn’t intending to include the flavoured toasts but I do agree that the Toque Whisky & Honey is excellent and easy to take. Same goes for the Bourbon. The Lime Toast may be a little trickier and the Cheese & Bacon Toasty a little easier, but I reckon both of those are love it or hate it types.

Haha what is going on with stevematthews internet? Nothing much to add, other than that menthols make my nose run like crazy. WoS Royal George tries me up real nice though.
Menthol with Camphor, ie. J&H Wilson’s dries me up a bit. A blast of Menthol without, like 5 Photo turns on the tap. Both are useful. Sometimes you use a cough suppressant and other times you need an expectorant.
Funny, I find nothing gets everything clear and flowing like some RR Mills plain. Just goes to prove how different everyone’s body chemistry can be. Ken
Just placed an order for : F&T High Dry Toast Wilson’s Irish High Toast No. 22 Samuel Gawith Irish D Light Gawith Hoggarth Irish D Toque Natural. Thanks for the suggestions Ermtony & co. Hopefully I’ll find at least one that suits my nose. The only blends I’ve found no problems with so far are the McChrystals line up - O&G was a favourite for about a month, but more a fan of Highland ice now but only if it is fresh. I really can’t stand O&G any more but it was a good introduction to snuff as it didn’t cause me any problems and has helped season my nose for other snuffs that were just too much a few months ago. I haven’t tried any american snuffs yet but they are on my hit list. It seems the heavily scented snuffs (F&T Bordeaux, GH Jockey club etc) irritate me the most, and most menthols get me good, although Highland Ice and Hedges are fine most of time. I take the point that sometimes you want a good clean out so both can be good. I have a dual snuff box for that very reason! I’ll let you know how I get on with the toasts when my order arrives tomorrow
Was that Toque Natural or Toque Natural Toast you ordered? You shouldn’t be disappointed regardless of which. I’m just noting the oddity in your order pattern.
