which snuff tin to reuse?

I guess i’m in the minority here as i don’t have a dedicated snuff tin/box - i tend to just re fill the 10 /12g tins from Wilsons and the like but after a while in use these start to rust up and the shiny surface wears off, they also start to give off a mataliky (spelling?) smell - so does any one have any suggestions for snuff tins that have some re fill re use value, or maybe some kind of cheap stainless steel or aluminium container? I live in the Uk so preferably some thing i can obtain from here or order in from Europe if possible. The reason i dont want a dedicated snuff tin/ box is i work on building sites etc and the tins im using tend to end up full of dints and scratches, i would hate to get a nice silver snuff box take it out my pocket and find a big dint in the lid of something :frowning: cheers, Stu.

Gawith Apricot box is good to reuse

Stu90, I find the plastic TAXI boxes are excellent for re-use. They seal quite well and last a long, long time. I use them all the time. I do not like the tins. I often buy O&G in rusted tins and also got a tin of SG Apricot which was badly rusted.

Rajeks do some really cheap boxes.

Geltcherprise boxes are re-fillable but long terms a snuff box is best, and a lot are under £15

Packard’s club is the only one I’ve refiledl and use- easy to open up and wash out since it’s plastic and it has a nice dispenser. Nothing beats a wood snuff box for me. I have some metal ones, but I just don’t really like them…snuff gets stuck in the wrong places. I’m really enjoying taking snuff from the back of my hand more than anything lately, because I’ve been using some coarser snuffs…so I like to take it with a spoon as well. I’ve seen those plastic “smash boxes” that probably work well. For me, there’s a certain pride in the box, and that is part of the enjoyment…so I pretty much stick with the nice wooden boxes that are sold on this Forum. I have 3 of them as well as a Sharrow box and that wooden container with the peg sold on Snuffstore I think.

A Wilsons Sharrow box would be robust enough for a building site and for what they are, very cheap at about £15.

why not try a bullet? I was a little uncertain with them my self until purchasing a metal one. Very practical for the work place, (I farm a vineyard), if your hands are dirty. Plus you can always tap out your pinch on the back of your hand if you don’t want to be snorting from a bullet. I got mine from Grassleaf, and I think it’s great! Also, very easy to clean out so that your last flavour doesn’t intrude on your new one.

thanks for all the replies and ideas guys - i think i might have it sorted now should have some little aluminium tins soon  Nightcap: how do you find those bullets, do they give enough of a dose or do you have to double up? cheers.

Look on Snuffstore to the left of this message, they carry them.

i find the geassleaf bullet gives a good size pinch. Sometimes i even share the single pinch with both nostrils. Mind you, This is with drier snuff. Moist snuff, one snuff per nostril. I got mine off ebay

I work at building sites also, and my weapon of choice is bullet. Easy to use and when your fingers are all covered with concrete or dust, its also hygienic.

Plastic snus pucks… Silver Dollar round taps can be refilled.

If you’re not too keen on reusing a tin, look into buying a smash box. Very cheap. Buy a snuffbox if you’re looking long term but if you don’t have the money to invest, like I said, buy a smash box (or two etc.)

I reuse Toque 10g tins. They tend to wear off with time, so I have an excuse to buy one or two test samples once in a while.

I use either plastic snuff boxes, like the Snuffhouse box or Toque tins. I used smashboxes for the first 2 or 3 years of snuffing. They are great for what they are. I found the hinges broke first. I bought a few, but got most of them when I bought samples from a, now sadly gone, snuff shop. They do tend to keep snuff fresher longer than a snuffbox, which is nice for a beginner who doesn’t use snuff up very quickly.

I kind of like the tins from Chef Daniel at Old Mill Artisan Snuff. fairly solid, deep grooves and handy size.

Any chance of a photo of his tins? Or perhaps someone has already posted one here… Toque tins are too soft for me to reuse. Sailing trip and cargo pockets and Toque tins don’t mix. Not your typical use, of course.

These https://mrsnuff.com/product_info.php?cPath=22_17&products_id=1862 are almost exactly the same, although in my opinion 14g is a bit optimistic; I would say about 8g max (depending on the snuff ofcourse). I have several of these for replacing the 5g WoS tins as they are about the same size. I am a big fan of the Toque tins myself but the tins of MrSnuff and OM can definitely take a lot more abuse.

The Old Mill large tins I just received are steel rather than aluminum. Solid and work well but I wouldn’t trust them for a moist salty snuff like Princes.
