It happened to me the first time i took snuff(haven t taken any tobacco product for 2 years). The second time i had this kind of relaxant near antidpressant effect was the first time i took mull of oa how about you ?
Old Mill Puro Dominicana
almost went insane after first trying that.
I’ve had nearly similar experiences but nothing quite like it…
that was the beginning of my Snuff Acquisition Disorder issue I have now
I blame @chefdaniel
I think for me, the awards for best first pinch were for SG SP Scotch, F&T Santa Domingo, WoS Chocolate mint, and WoS Brunswick. Unfortunately, I don’t think you ever quite recapture the wow factor of the initial pinch, as afterwards you know what to expect, but it’s nice to keep chasing it anyway
My intro to snuff went smoothly. I lucked out and made some decent choices. Snuff was pretty good. My third order, however, included F&T HDT, Toque Lime Toast, and 6 Photo Kailash. I was thrilled with these, which I thought to be everything I was looking for in snuff… minus the learning curve with the toasts. Every now and then I’ll have a similar experience. I was more than happy with many Old Mills (especially Banana’s Foster, Butternut, ANTEBELLUM, Perfecto, Evangeline, and Olde English Toast.) I believe that SAD eventually comes to an end, because there actually is a finite amount of snuff available…or at least I’ve purchased all the snuff that sounds interesting to me. So the days of being a kid in a candy store are about over for me. It has been a fun year finding the random paradise snuff though.
Getting to really know 300+ different kinds of snuff is a different topic, and I’m happy to know that I am years away from being that kind of snuff aficionado. I do know that occasionally I’ll revisit a snuff that I initially thought was OK, only to find it amazing.
Any snuff if it’s been a few hours lol
Old Mill : Bananas Foster ! It goes through changes in your nose ! Thanks Chef !
OM Butternut, Kind of Blue, Melba’s toast, Pure Virginia toast, Moulin Rouge,… I could go on, but I don’t want to look like too much of an @chefdaniel fanboy.
It’s QES/Tom Buck for me. But its taken many many years to say that. Theres been others, like Gold Label or HDT, maybe a dozen more when I felt like that. but after sampling hundreds searching for something better, I’m comfortable saying QES/Tom Buck is really best for me and I dont need to find something better. Its nice to sample, but the “relentless-searching-convinced-something-better-exists-obsession” is over and Im happy with QES/TB.
And it’s made me think again about undertaking the QES/Tom Buck controversy. I dont know why I always order both. Im fairly convinced they are the same scent, but Tom Buck always looks just so slightly finer and lighter maybe thats my imagination or my mind really wanting them to be different for some reason.
WoS Grand Cairo.
6Photo Special can take me to that magic place.
Arnold Andre Alpen Prise
Bernard’s Fichtennadel
The richer artisan snuffs like Abraxas Premium Batch, Cerise, SWS Creme de Figue, Auld Alliance ect.
SG Black Rappee is very strong and moist, so on a hot day out in the sun I wouldn’t recommend it. But, in the evening with a few friends when you’ve already had a few scotches and are “feeling good”…wow, it makes you feel 100% satisfied with life.

WoS Thyme & Lemon… My family owns a cabin in the Adirondacks, and wild Thyme grows along the shoreline. I fish a lot when I’m up there, and walking on the Thyme releases it’s scent into the warm summer air. It’s intoxicating. Every time I take a pinch of this snuff, it reminds me of fishing up north. I also really enjoy Toque Violet. I don’t have any particular memory attached to it though, It just makes me smile. It reminds me of something that I can’t quite put my finger on. I’ve experienced this scent before, but I don’t recall where or when it was.
Old Mill Limon Cello for me, it reminded me of sitting at the table with my big ass Italian family on sunday drinking lemoncello and eating great food.
OM calypso aka. Tropical fruit bomb
For me it was OM Kind of blue.
Early in my snuff taking explorations I acquired a canister of F&T HDT and fell in love. Before that I had tried a couple florals and one candy snuff I can’t remember and was thinking hmm, so that’s it? Lol. More recently I would have to say SWS Latakia blend. Certainly not an everyday snuff for me, but coming from being an avid pipe smoker with a severe addiction to English blends, I was floored at just how precisely the aroma/flavor profile matched that found from enjoying a pipe full of say Dunhill nightcap. Top marks.
Razorback Toast, G’Day
Dholakia Black in large amounts was quite a pleasant thing. I need to order more of that. There is variation between batches, though, and I like some more than others.
Rosinski Nordisch Grun. This description sums it up perfectly: The beauty of Europe
The beauty of Europe
Definitely either WoS Irish High Toast #22 or Toque Lime Toast can transport me to a different dimension if I have a heavy session. F&T HDT and Toque Whisky & Honey aren’t too far behind.
Just ordered 200g bulk Lime Toast as well… I’ve been out of this snuff for ages but should have a healthy stock now. :)
I enjoy 6 Photo Medicated 666, followed by Motia, only at night. It transports me mentally to somewhere exotic, probably India.
White Elephant
6P Super Kailash
Jaxons Queen’s Special
Considering I have tried approx. 40 different snuffs until now, and still have another 50 or more unopened snuff containers I have never tried before, I would say that until now I have had my mind blown by the following ones: F&T - Santo Domingo, Morocco SG - Elmos’ Reserve, Kendal Brown WoS - Grand Cairo Bernard - Aecht Altbayerischer, Winterpris Viking Brown All these fall in the “love at first sniff” category for me. Snuffs that I have never grown tired of and hopefully never will.
My first 8g container of 6P Kailash. But I haven’t been able to obtain an equally awesome tin of it. Tried 2x 50 g container 1x 200g and about 8x 8g. Not one of them tasted nearly as good as the first one. I’m starting to think my first tin was the exception, or that my mind is playing tricks on me.
Most recently, OSP #3
S.G. Kendal Brown Original-my first snuff,
W.o.S. IHT#22-my first toast,
De Kralingse St.Omer N.1-my best snuff ever…
1st snuff ever Dean Swift-Jasmine 1982 Now I’d say SWS- Creme de Figue The second quote could change in a few hours tho.
Old Mill~ Cuba Libre & Old Mill~ Calypso
SWS Roslein, DK Prins Regent…toque USA lime, W&H not far behind
I’m not sure what paradise is, but SWS Fields of Juniper seems very other worldly, fey, delicate, ethereal to me. Kinda like what I gather paradise is meant to be like.
First time I tried No 22 Irish Toast it made me smile ear to ear
The first time I tried Dholakia Taj, I was transported to nasal Nirvana. More recently, I’ve discovered Fribourg & Treyer Patch - my little patchouli patch in Paradise. I’d like to say they’re as good as sex but, come on, it’s snuff, and I have yet to have a nosegasm (unless sneezes count)!
Abraxas Connoisseur Cerise. Alas, we hold high what we can’t have…
Lime Toast
Spanish Gem
Tom Buck
SWS Anson Imperial. I rarely have any because it’s too special
I would have to say the same as @SammyD13 about Abraxas Connoisseur Cerise.the version which was finely ground. I had been snuffing maybe a few months and it was like Wow! Currently I really enjoy MG Madras. So much that I try to limit my intake.
My father always kept a tin of Hedges snuff in the drawer, which - as a child - I would pinch every now and then. But - in answer to the question - it would have to be Smiths Golden Cardinal which I bought on my way back from Foyles Bookshop in London years ago. I snuffed it outside the shop and never looked back. Various snuffs have come close since, but never quite eclipsed the experience of that moment. (Abraxas Fire Cured Cerise; M de K Gingerbread; OM Puro Dominicana; Bernards Zweifacher … Paradise is quite roomy in the snuff world hey!)
