Not everything is a winner and I reckon it’s ok to throw things out when they’re just annoying you. Yesterday I cleared out a few Wilsons of Sharrow. All 10g tins. Gone are: Morlaix, Sherry, Kendal Brown, Burgundy. All dusty, somewhat stale or otherwise bad. Sometimes you just know after the first pinch that you don’t want to keep it. Gave Morlaix a chance of about 10 pinches but it didn’t make the cut. I think WoS Rose might be another casualty. At this rate I think I can safely say I will never order Wilsons of Sharrow again.
Hopefully this will help me find The Worst Snuff. So far I have liked every single snuff I have tried. If I didn’t like it it never bothered me so much that I would never take it again. I am Compelled find a snuff even I will throw out. To help, I like Cheese & Bacon Snuff.
6 Photo LA Gold - The smell reminds me of draino. WOS Lavender and SP extra - Never did like them they where as you describe ““dusty”” Both the Molins snuffs that use potash as a ingredient, tried one of them yesterday and ended up with a sneezing fit that only stopped when I jammed tissue buds up my nose and went to sleep. I’m also on the fence with Samuel Gawith X Blend, it’s good if the local stables decides to burn the large pile of horse shit like they do sometimes but any other time it’s extremely soapy to the point where I might just jam soap up there instead.
So how about other voices I’ve heard on this forum saying “don’t jump the gun, give it a chance. You may hate it today and love it tomorrow”? The ones I got rid off were ones that I knew I wouldn’t enjoy, today or tomorrow.
Are you saying the reverse could be true? I may be madly in love with one snuff one day and, the other want to set fire to it?
No, I was wondering about people saying “oh no, how can you tell after you tried it just the onçe…you didn’t give it a chance, ride it out. It might get better and you’ll like it.” And I say “no”. Because I know myself and my taste and that’s that.
Ambassador - it smelled so good at first but a couple of weeks after me and several of my friends had dug our fingers around in it it smelled like rancid cheese. “The ambassador is taken ill!”
Well, just to be contrary, I would say to NEVER throw out snuff - unless it moldy that is… Not only is it true that tastes change, but some of those shall we say ‘less desirable’ snuffs make excellent ‘mixers’. that is exactly how something like Crazy George by Toque came about. Rather than tossing, try taking a jar and blending them. My only caveat in this may possible be menthol, vs. non menthol, or coarse vs. fine grind. then just separate. And besides, I am certain that there are a lot of folks on this forum who would be more than happy to take the ‘offensive’ snuffs off your hands.
I’d never throw a snuff if for no other reason than collecting different tins. Plus i hated bergamot once and now i love an sp.
Really into Viking. Using Dark and Spear today.
dont throw them out! send them to me. im beginning to believe my mr snuff order is never gonna get here. i desperately want to try a real snuff im getting tired of this home made stuff i have
Recently I threw away two Bernard’s: 280 Jahre Jubiläums Snuff and Wiesen Snuff. Both are - in a German fashion - way past my threshold in menthol. I kept them in closet for half a year, always turning away after testing again. Bernard’s Amostrinha is waiting for the same treatment. I threw them away to have the empty tap boxes to use with my schmalzlers actually. Btw. I really don’t understand what is it with German snuffs and menthol. Every single one of them has it (except schmalzlers), which has practically turned me away from Pöschl’s products, even though they are easily available here over the counter, and there are still like dozens of different ones, which I’ve never tried.
You can also bring dried-out snuffs back to life by sprinkling some Tabasco sauce on it and leave it for some days. The snuff will turn out moist again.
Binned some Sam Gawith Christmas Snuff and another one of their peculiar scented snuffs. Can’t remember what it was called, but it smelled very sweet, almost berry like . I found the nicotine level too low for my liking.
Gawith Hoggath- Western glory. Far too much geranium to my liking and after 1 year and more than 10 tries to The Dungeon it goes! “The Dungeon” is how I call an oversized glass jar where I plan to leave all the “not to my liking” snuffs and located in the darkest depths part of my drawer. Sorry, but throwing snuff to the trash goes against my religion … [-O<
SWS Auld Alliance opened a jar from my cellar & found it was moldy :((
That is a TRUE tragedy @perique!!!
I agree about Wilsons of Sharrow Burgundy. I could not finish the tin. Seems to be just snuff with cheap perfume added (probably one on special offer from Boots). Leaves a horrible aftertaste of perfume (taste not smell). I though Burgundy meant the Red Wine, but obviously not. After a few snorts of this you will think you are in a low rent French provincial cat-house full of fat ladies.
What kind of person throws out snuff? Sell them, trade them, give them away. But to act like you’ve done something clever just to prove older, experienced snuffers wrong is the height of ridiculousness. And then to proclaim all of WoS unorderable…somethings rotten in Denmark, methinks.

Don’t throw out snuff, but what about snus? Can that be thrown out?

Only if it’s mouldy!!! Otherwise, in the wifes coffee bean grinder on the food processor, and up the shoot it goes. Fe, fi, fo fum… I’ll grind your snus to make my snuff :))
@saucy_jack, as a principle I understand that, but in practice what is the use of storing a 2 euro tin of snuff for five years just because you may start liking it in some point. Economically I see the cost of storing the tin much higher as the price of buying it again in some distant time. The cost here means that I have to actually buy an air-tight container and possibly fight more room in our apartment for the snuff from my lovely partner (and this is the costliest part) when the half empty tins pile up.
Have to say though, that if I’d own a house and had already piled up some 100 piece collection of glass jars, I would probably store those not-liked snuffs for five years… Unfortunately this is not the case.
I’ve liked and even loved too many snuffs the second time around to ever throw anything. I thought the Fubar rum flavored snuff was disgusting when I first tried it, now I would put it in the top five snuffs in the world and I think the blender did a sublime job. At the least, unloved snuffs can be blended into others. You will find that various flavors put together create an entirely new ‘taste’. A lot of people taste chocolate in my premium batch, which it doesn’t have - it’s the result of the flavors melding together.

Now that really is an interesting idea. Will give it a try - nothing to loose.
SG Menthol Black went bye bye today. I have revisited it a few times, but it does nothing for me, and wouldn’t gel with any of my mixes built from discarded snuffs
I finally dumped the SG Chocolate tapbox contents. Was nasty to me last year and tried to like it but those tapboxes suck. Anyways dumped it outside where I saw some ants trying to get into the house
I don’t throw out snuff, I pass it along to someone I know that wants to give it ago. Waste not, want not right? It’s a rare occurance I cannot find something appealing, but Fubar Grunt was just given to a new home
I never throw out snuff. Even the Fubar Doolali Tap, which I mostly hate, I occasionally pinch just to remind myself that curry is much better in cuisine than it is in snuff. And the ancient Garrett in the brown bottle that I scored on eBay, which my mama goat loves(!), and gets a pinch of every evening, I keep it around. Its right in front of me now as I type. It’s still got a great vintage Scotch flavor and tons of nicotine. I keep all my snuff, even the mediocre snuff I try to make myself.
I’ve only thrown out my own experiments.
That’s good you can find snuff a new home. I don’t have anyone in my circle of friends who would appreciate it, or at least not locally, and posting small amounts costs about the same as what the snuff costs. Generally speaking I’ll recycle anything that doesn’t work out for me by mixing, and only throw away snuff that’s spoiled or when the tins have corroded.
I’ve really got to try mixes, as I don’t know how else I’m going to ever get rid of the Viking snuffs I’ve got. I’m not sure about mixing snuffs of a different grind and all that… Trial and error, I suppose.
@Tobe Which Vikings do you have, and what are you thinking of mixing them with? Don’t feel the need to use them too quickly anyway, it’s nice to have some plainer snuffs just to tone down ones you buy in future that might be too potent for your tastes
Mouldy Santa Domingo :((
@50ft_trad I have Viking Blonde, Viking Brown, Viking Dark, and Viking Spear, with Viking Blonde being the only one I can tolerate. Honestly, I’m not sure what to mix them with, as I’ve never done it before. Guess I’ll have to give it some thought.
@Tobe Just mix up small amounts at a time, but allow the flavours to infuse/meld before using them. I find the strong florals from F&T, and the likes of Seville work well with the blonde and brown (I’ve just had a few days of Brown with Macouba), GH Cherry works well with the brown, and SG Firedance and Celtic Talisman work well with the dark and the brown. I think the Spear may be the tricky one for you, although if it’s just a matter of the spearmint being too potent, you could use one of the other plain Vikings to tone it down. However, all this is irrelevant unless we have similar tastes. Is it the scent of the Vikings that is the issue? I find the Brown quite boring but with a nice grind, so it just needs livening up a bit. The Blonde to me has a sickly note to it, a bit like toasts do, and I need something floral or fruity to mask that. I really like the Dark, so don’t tend to mix that much, but have added Firedance in the past.
@50ft_trad I find that I don’t like the scent of Viking Brown, Dark or Spear. Viking Dark is the worst for me, due to what many recognize as a tarmac scent. Brown is just eh… Not horrible, but not good enough for me to ever want to use it again unless I ran out of every other snuff I’ve got. Spear is just not my cup of tea. I like spearmint, but apparently I don’t like spearmint snuff. Blonde is the only one I can’t really complain about, though I likely wouldn’t order it again. I will try to mix them at some point in the ways you suggested, but it’ll be a while. I’ve got too many snuffs I like to bother with them just now.
Seems to me if you have something you’ve only had a pinch or two from, that’s not spoiled or dried out, offer it on the buy/sell/trade thread, either for trade or to re-home for the cost of postage.
Personally, I think the Vikings are terrific, though I’ve already got enough hoarded to see me through the next few years. There must be other Viking fans on this forum.
@cpmcdill That was what I originally intended to do, but then I figured no one would want a previously opened tin from some guy they don’t know from a hole in the ground. If I hadn’t already started giving generous amounts away as samples, I’d definitely list them though.
A 90% full tub of Taxi Red scattered to the wind. Just cannot get along with it.
@fj1988 I’d have traded you all my Viking snuff for that Taxi Red.
Crap! Sorry Tobe, I acted before thinking. Dunno if I had a duff tub but no amount of airing resulted in the Taxi getting any dryer. That’s why I chucked it. Is it supposed to be as moist as squeezed tea leaves??
The only SA snuff I spent much time with was Babaton Blue, and that was very moist too. I didn’t consider it a problem though. Today I parted company with WoS Summer Berries. It kept inducing headaches. The only snuff to ever do that to me. It may be whatever element is giving it a metallic/chemical edge, but whatever it is I don’t want it or the migraine like headaches any more.
Fubar Fugazi Black Joe. I bought this when it was first introduced, and have come back to it in an attempt to enjoy it. Alas, I can’t stand it. It’s only saving grace is its nicotine content, but that didn’t stop me from scattering it into the wind, like ashes.
Finally threw out my Q Irish Coffee. It just didn’t agree with me. I felt like I had a head cold after using it. Horrible post nasal drip, and it clogged my nose up. I got a few of the bullets from a Mr. snuff potluck, so not a huge loss.
@Ubiquitous, I got some of that Irish Coffee as a consolation when MS was out of stock on an item I ordered. I didn’t expect the menthol at first, but tried it a few more times. I don’t care for the scent. It clogs me, too. It’s one of very few snuffs I wouldn’t put in my nose again. I can’t throw it out, though. @Tobe, I have some Taxi Red coming. I’m not usually into very moist snuff, but this has me intrigued. I’ll keep you in mind if I don’t like it–and keep my fingers out of it in case I decide to pass it along. Who knows? I might love the stuff.
Maybe it’s just my luck, but the Taxi Red that I’ve got is dry. Not bone dry like a scotch (and definitely nowhere near as fine), but there’s definitely very little moisture content. @TerrapinFlyer if it doesn’t agree with you, definitely pass it along. I need to stockpile this stuff.
I just cleaned out all the stuff I don’t like today! A while ago I bought a WoS assorted flavor pack. I tossed Irish Coffee, Cola, Summer Berries and Chocolate Mint (all WoS). Come to think of it, Ive thrown away a lot of snuff because I ordered a bunch of pot luck bags from Mr Snuff when I first started.
Irish Coffee and Chocolate Mint are two snuffs I adore. Probably my favourite coffee snuff, and my second favourite mint snuff (after GH Wild Mint). Just shows how varied our tastes are I suppose
