Which Kendal Brown?

C

Conflicting impressions have me asking you guys about an already much discussed topic. Between GH and SG, which is the most plain tobacco? I don’t want any florals, and would prefer just straight tobacco although I could live with a little citrus presence. I have not tried any Kendal Brown variation as yet and was leaning toward putting the GH in the cart I’m working on, and I was hoping you guys would help me avoid buyer’s remorse for picking the wrong one. Thanks!

C

They are both similar.  Get them both, you won’t be disappointed.  Also try Black Rappee and London Brown.

J

I kind of lean more toward the SG.

I personally like F&T KB but it’s so completely different from all the other KBs.

E

I would say the GH is the plainest. The various SG KBs all have more of a citrus flavouring with the KB Original having the least. They are all tasty.

P

I agree with ermtony… the GH Kendal Brown is the plainest.  The SG versions all seem to be scented in some slight way (even Plain, though it may just be a characteristic of the tobacco used).

C

Thanks guys, GH it is

E

I think you’ll enjoy it, but do get it either in bulk or in the 25g plastic tub. It’s rarely good and fresh from a sneeze box.

I reckon I use more of the GH KB than all the SG ones together.

J

The GH is more user-friendly. It’s more medium on moisture and grind. The SG is pretty coarse. But definitely go with the 25g tub. Do not get a 10g sneezebox. You will not like dry Kendal Brown.

C

agreed, the only tobacco suited to tapboxes as far as I’m concerned are schmalzlers

J

Eh, many of the German brands keep well in them simply because they use oils that don’t dry out quickly even in environments that aren’t air tight. Poschl controls such a huge share of the snuff market, I don’t blame Gawith Hoggarth and their cousin, Sam for thinking that sneezeboxes were a good idea. I do blame them for not taking responsibility and getting rid of them because when you moisturize your snuff without oil, it dries out very quickly when it’s not airtight.

If I became a snuff producer, I certainly would not want my product to degrade before it even reaches the consumer. I’m just glad we have the option to buy the 25g mini bulk tubs. Otherwise, GH & SG would not have anywhere near the fans that they now have.

M

Can’t they be petitioned to bring back the 10g tin?

J

Dude idk. I’ve been snuffing for like a year and a half. It’s been like it for at least that long. They seem to not really be concerned with it.

M

Yeah, it’s been a while…I think at least 3 years with the tap boxes. But if they hear from a bunch of serious snuffers, maybe, only maybe. It would seem, I think I’ve heard, that the tap boxes are to make thier snuff more accessible to the Poschl crowd/mainstream newbie snuffer population. But I’m holding on to a thread of hope here, maybe they’d listen to a large group? My personal motivation here is that 25gs will sometimes be too much to use up before it gets too dry etc. For me 10gs is about perfect.

J

I’m in the same boat. I just bought a 25g tub of Almond. While it’s a very good snuff, it’s more of a dessert type snuff that I will definitely not be using all day. I also really enjoy KB, but it’s so distinct, again, I might bust it out for a few days and then move on.

I bought some plastic containers that are air-tight from Bed Bath and Beyond. I’ve been buying a ton of snuff. I’ve been stocking up on smashboxes and putting the rest in the air-tight containers.

V

I don’t see a reason to not try all of them at some point. I have only tried the GH one, figured I should try the original KB first.

M

That and the Sam G Original KB, that’s the one I heard reffered as the esteemed original, may or may not be true though. I haven’t found a KB I don’t like, even Wilson’s and F&T. But they might cry blasphemy on me.

C

So far Viking Brown is my favorite, but I still have the SGs to go through.
