Which Country Produces Your Favorite Snuffs?

Which country produces your favorite snuffs? For me it’s Great Britain by far–very far. But that is not all. I would put my top 4 in this order (along with my favorites from each country): 1. Great Britain–Abraxas, SWS, Toque, SG, GH, WoS, McChrystal 2. India–Dholakia (includes Temptation, FUBAR, WOW), Six Photo, 41 Photo 3. South Africa–Taxi, Babaton, NTSU 4. Germany–Bernard, Sternecker But that’s just me. What is your view?

I have only been using snuff for a few moths or so but agree Great Britain–Abraxas, SWS, Toque, SG, GH, WoS, McChrystal

Your list is pretty much identical to mine @fredh

  1. Great Britain 2. India 3. Netherlands 4. Germany

As an almost exclusive 6Photo user, India.

I’m going to say: 1) Great Britain 2) United States 3) India 4) Germany

  1. UK 2)Netherlands 3)Germany 4)USofA
  1. U.S. 2. Netherlands 3. Germany 4. U.K.

@lunecat Scottish snuffs? I’ve not done much research in to the various manufacturers in the UK, but they all seem to be ey up North – like two in Sheffield, two in Kendal and one almost gobbing distance from the Scottish border near Berwick. But since I’m new to this (and will be making that excuse in every post until I’ve been snuffing at least a year), I could be well wrong. Only tried WoS and a couple of store bought Pöschl so far, and I’m looking forward to my first SG and Toque delivery, due in the next day or two. Do we have any southern/midlands/Welsh snuff makers?

@snuffereastlancs - McChrystal’s are based in Leicester, which is East Midlands. Hedges L260 was originally manufactured in Brum.

You mean countries other than the UK and India make snuff too?!

Roll-up, Roll-up snuffers; Support your Midlands snuff industry!

1- UK 2- Netherlands 3- South africa 4- India 5- Germany

Interesting question. I guess I would have to say in order of preference: England, Netherlands, USA, India. I don’t really dislike the offerings from elsewhere, but they are not in the top 4.

England, India, Netherlands, Germany, US. in that order.

Germany in my case but I’m trying a lot of British ones.

India for me, they just seem to have my number. I also like that they don’t put menthol in so much of their products. Some great snuff comes out of England though no arguments there, probably a very close second. I don’t have much luck with too many German or US snuffs I probably need to try more. I’m always open for suggestions…

sorry to double post but I noticed a few of you guys picking Netherlands never tried any from there, does anyone have a good non-menthol suggestion?

Born and raised in Germany, my first snuff experiences were all Poeschls. Kloster Andechs is my favourite, Loewenprise and Gletscherprise are solid, simple menthol snuff for a good all day use. If you want to look into “traditional” kinds, some Bernards should be fine, like the Kownoer, Civette or the Schmalzlers.

For me, England & The Netherlands. No other snuffs for me. It is not a coïncedence, but these two countries were the countries with the highest snuff takers rates in the 18th and 19th centuries, the golden age for both countries.
