Hi Snuffhouse, I started snuffing maybe two weeks ago. On the recommendation of this forum, I started with Toque, because it was a good way to ease into it. I ordered four cans - menthol, raspberry menthol, abstinithe, and original. I liked it so much that I ordered some 17 more flavors from Toque. I don’t need to reorder anytime soon as I have some more experimenting to do with Toque, but I’m trying to prepare in advance. After I have conquered Toque, which brand should I hit up next? For some reason I have this idea that it would be good to try 75% of the flavors from each brand rather than jump around.
Get yourself a treat- if you like fine ground stuff try the Abraxas Dragun and if you like corse and sweet try their Conniseur Cerise. I’m a newb too but that’s what your missing IMO.
Hi @SnuffNoob These days there are a huge array of snuffs with a very wide variety of aromas / flavours, grinds and degrees of moisture. It is very tempting to try everything and if that is what turns you on then go for it. If you want to be more selective I would suggest that you work your way through the Toques and discover which ones you prefer. It sounds like you have a wide selection of the Toques - which are great snuffs - so it may be that you are drawn to a particular type. That could be menthol or non menthol, floral, fruity or maybe plain. If you have some Toque Berwick Brown - which has a slightly coarser grind - you might prefer that type of grind. Once you have discovered your favourites then you can check the reviews here, on http://mrsnuff.com and on http://www.snuffcentral.com/ and find snuffs from other manufacturers that are similar to your tastes. Then you can start experimenting with those. I am far from being an expert having only returned to snuff a few months ago and I have only sampled 20 different snuffs since then. But if you want to try some truly excellent handmade snuffs then I would heartily recommend snuffs from Abraxas and Sir Walter Scott. I think anyone that is into snuff should try them. The Sir Walter Scott Creme de Figue is outstanding and also delivers a hefty dose of nicotine. The Abraxas Cerise is equally good and not far behind in the nicotine stakes. I will very shortly be ordering the rest of the Abraxas range as they all get superb reviews and if they are as good as the Cerise then I can hardly wait to get them in my nose. Enjoy your sampling. I see now that @Zimobog beat me to it with the Abraxas suggestion.
I hadn’t yet tried the Sir Walter Scott, @chris, but it sounds fantastic. @SnuffNoob Wilsons of Sharrow has inexpensive gift packs of six cans (luck of the draw) to help us new guys dabble. I got one with a good range of mints, fruits, and flowers. You might get lucky with one of those, too!
@Zimobog Do yourself a favour and add it to your next order. If you like the Abraxas Cerise then the Creme de Figue should suit you as well. A different flavour but similar grind, moisture and nicotine.
I would work your way through the Wilson’s snuff. They have a big selection and amazing scents. If you stick to your 75% of one companies scents before moving on Wilson’s will keep you busy for a while. Although it might take a too long to find other great from other companies. I would suggest looking at the top 5/10 threads and get a feel for what alot of other people like and order a variation.
Samuel Gawith, then be sure to try one of the South African snuffs, and give it a chance. I originally thought Taxi did not hold up against the English snuffs, but within a couple weeks the SA snuffs displaced my favorites and remain my go to snuffs to this day.
I also started 2 weeks ago. You have way more then me. I did it differently then you. I did buy some toques but didn’t want to only be locked into one company so i only bought 4 flavors then i ordered a 2nd order and I went by flavor. I picked 4 flavors I thought would be interesting peppermint, coffee, chocolate, apple. Made sure I picked at least 3 different varieties of each flavor so I can compare and then just to add more variety I did the buy 5 get I free toque special too.
Try everything you can .there’s alot to choose from .never had a bad one yet.mr snuff has plenty of great snuffs.keep spending and keep snuffing is what I say.enjoy.
Nothing wrong with Toque, but for the most part they are all the same snuff with different flavorings (technically I guess there are three grinds they make). My advice to new snuffers is always to get as many snuffs from as many different companies as you can comfortably afford when starting out, rather than trying to get the full range of one company first. When I was a noob, I found that Wilsons of Sharrow was the most beginner friendly, so I’d recommend at least including a few of those in your next order. In hindsight I’d also add Samuel Gawith to that list, but they are a bit more “hit and miss” in the flavor department. I say in hindsight, because when I was a noob my impression of them was mostly negative since most of their products were dried out when I got them. I have since learned to only buy them in vacuum tins, which are thankfully now easy to find.
Wilsons of Sharrow.
Dholakia ,wow,blast,temptation,fubar. all wonderful snuffs
Noticing a bit of an Indian vibe @basement_shaman
@stogie true I find them intentional as therapeutic and harmonizing to my Psychology
I would add a vote for Wilsons of Sharrow, too. Excellent variety, mostly quite easy to use, many classics since 1737. Enjoy!
Just go straight to Taxi Red and save your money
Try out some 6 Photo. That will give you a taste of traditional Indian snuff. Toque makes some great snuff but there is a lot of other gems out there waiting to be discovered.
Try a Latakia and a Schmalzler.
Surprising as it may seem… I didn’t recommend an Indian snuff because, if you are anything like me, once you try them you won’t want to try anything else!
For a Latakia try: De Kralingse AO 1860 For a Schmalzler, try: Bernard (they make quite a few different schmalzlers) or Poschl.
I was amazed at the difference between Fribourg and Treyer (French Carrotte) and Toque when I tried it, so I’d say an F&T you think you might like. Wilsons took me longer to like, for some reason.
I’d say most of the Poschl snuffs are beginer friendly.
I’ve been taking snuff for just over 3 weeks, so still a newb I guess. I’d say don’t try to stick with ‘noob’ friendly snuff. Try different stuff and figure out what kind of stuff you like. Just a thought. I’m enjoying the F&T and WoS toasts, Viking Dark, etc. Looking forward to trying the FUBAR snuffs and some Dragun as soon as MrSnuff has it back in stock. Good luck!
all of them seems to be what is being said.
As another Newb, I’d say Wilson’s good quality stuff easy to take. 5g tins so you can experiment.
i am a 4-year snuffer and i only tried 43 different types of some producers. There are a few of tins of snuff i didn’t like which already lost their scents. I want to try more but i add them to my chart step by step.
F&T do I have to say more; recommended HDT, Old Paris, Santo Domingo. Patchouli, Macouba , Dr.JR Justice ,French Carotte that is 7 out of 15, a few of my favorites
