Where do you live and how much does customs charge you in tax per kg?

I have been wondering mainly curiosity how much do you pay in tax, if any where you live?

In Arizona, our state sales tax is 5. Something percent. As far as ordering snuff out of country I have not had to pay customs, so I dont know if I’m just lucky or we don’t have to pay customs for tobacco in the US.

In Australia the customs tax my snuff $763.2 per Kg, if they stop it which tends to be at least 3 out of 4 orders. I don’t really mind, I enjoy snuffing a heck of alot more than smoking. Also the additional price almost makes it almost a luxury item which makes me value and saver each and every pinch even more.

Though I do really envy those who buy $30 of snuff and only need to pay $30 with no tax. I’d have a stock pile larger than that of Nepoleon in his day.

So that’s nearly 20 bucks in tax for a 25g tin? Ouch! I’m in the UK and pay no additional taxes. I also have the luxury of being able to shop around for good deals. On average, I pay less than 10 pence per gram (not including shipping costs), either by buying bulk or by bargain hunting. I have to limit myself to bargains due to my financial situation. I recently got several tins of SG snuffs for one pound each, and bulk SG and WoS at 15 quid for 250g and 25 quid for 500g. When I see M&W listed at 5.75 per tin, I know that’s a luxury I can’t afford these days. Unfortunately for many of you, most of the options I have available for these deals, do not ship globally.

@50ft_trad it works out at the same price as good premium rolling tobacco. I don’t mind it though I enjoy snuffing a heck of alot more than smoking and I use far less snuff than rolling tobacco.

Anyway there’s always the one or two that get by customs unnoticed ;)

Fair play! I was the same. I’d easily smoke 60g+ of rolling tobacco a week, and will snuff maybe 10-20g a week.

I am not an accountant nor excise tax expert, but at first glance here in Czech republic (and whole EU) snuff tobacco do not fell under direct taxation only fell under VAT which is 20% rate. Other tobacco products fell under excise tax and they are stamped as duty/customs paid.
Tobacco excise tax is as follows (rough numbers converted to USD):
1 cigarette (King Size) .10 USD/pc (minimal rate)
1 cigarillo/cigar .08 USD/pc
1 kg (2,2 lbs) smoking tobacco 85 USD

Aproximate price for snuff tobacco is around 2 USD per 10 gms tap box. 98% market share belongs to Poeschl brands Ozona, Gletcher Prise, Loewen Prise or Red Bull, only some specialist tobacconist holds limited offer of WoS or SG snuff in those dreaded tap-boxes.

I’m in Colorado, and I’ve never been charged a customs tax, but then, I never buy snuff by the kilo. My total supply probably weighs that much, or more, but I’m not concerned. That said, a 10 gram tin of Toque USA at the local b&m store costs $5.50, and probably a lot of that is tax. I think it varies state by state, and cigarettes have an additional tax, I think.

I live in Nebraska and used to live in Hawaii. I’ve ordered a lot of bulk snuff over the years and have never been asked to pay any customs tax.

I live in Canada (Manitoba) and have never had to pay customs, despite receiving at least 70 packages of snuff since starting in 2008 or so.  Granted, one former retailer used to list the packages as “motorcycle parts” or “family photos”, but both Mr. Snuff and Snuffstore clearly declare the contents of the packages as snuff and I still don’t get dinged.  My theory is that they see it so rarely that it’s simply too much work for them to calculate the duty owed so they just allow it to clear.  Hope that continues to be the case!

Taxes!?  We don’ need no steenking taxes!

So far it appears I am the only one who pays tax on snuff lol

Our tobacco tax is very generalized any tobacco product is taxed exorbitantly when it enters Australia. I believe they also are going to extend this tax to e juices within the year too.

The tax is apparently there to offset the cost of medicare though being a snuff user this doesn’t feel right or just.

I haven’t been hit with taxes once. Touch wood.
