I’m curious to see what peoples favorite snuffs are, why, and what they are like. I’m always eager to learn more about this stuff.

  1. My first may be obvious haha. its Abraxas Firedrac, particularly at the moment. from the moment i tried it, i loved it. its the right moisture and grind for me, has a wonderful scent, nice tingle/burn, and i can use as much as i like. it doesnt clog me up, and if i wish i can absolutely load my nose with it in a morning, which A. gives me a wonderful wakeup buzz, and B. starts to clear my nose out making it easier to clear out the tubes in the shower. it also functions well in all my bullets, which makes discreet use a dream. a lot of this is personal, some snuffs just match certain people. i already found the snuff i never want to be without here. 2. Poschl Red Bull- it was one of my first, and remains a good menthol, albeit a little cloggy. its really easy to take, and as its oiled it works well with the tapbox its in. also has some other scent under the menthol, which is nice. 3. Abraxas Premium Fin- great for me on an evening, its like silk to take for me, and because its so easy i can load up before bed after a nice meal (so long as i have a drink for the possible throat drip due to the quantity i can use) for a nice nic wave. 4. Poschl gletscher-prise- For me, a soothing menthol, another one i find good before bed, perhaps when i dont want the nic rush. 5. Hedges ‘The Snuff’- strong menthol, i like to mix it, doesnt need much. good when i want a menthol that isnt so cloggy, but it can make my eyes water. 6. 6photo anarkali- just like incense, with a very nice tingle/burn, i like it on a lazy feeling morning which is good as it takes a bit more care because it clumps so much, and being a moist, fine, jet black snuff can get messy if i rush it. Tried to pick 5, but had to squeeze 6. i like others, but i think these are my main ones now. other snuffs (out of the ones i have tried) i think that deserve a mention off the top of my head are- Molens Latakia AO1860, SG CCC, mcchrystals O&G, Toque absinthe, Toque almond, Abraxas dragun (like firedrac, but sweeter, less spicy, and finer), SG scotch black, J&H wilsons medicated, Toque cheese and bacon, F&T Santo Domingo

@fireStarter0 That was a great list, will def. Look into trying them. Thanks for taking the time to write out such an extensive list. Its much appreciated.

F

i have a strong preference for spiced/menthol/plain, just havent found many plains yet that are the right grind for me. i may have to make my own. careful with the toques, many people recommend for beginners, but i found them a bit fine/dry (the ones i tried). forgot to mention cheese and bacon… i really do like that one, but its flavour stays awhile, and i have to keep it separate from my other snuffs, as it seems to like transferring. Ill add to the end ‘mentions’ list as i remember.

5 Wilsons of Sharrow Tom Buck, could substitute SP2, or Best SP. or Toque SP Extra The SPs are just Bright and refreshing. #4 Toque Lime Toast, I like the lime flavor over the toast background #3 Toque Natural/Quit I’ll take either one great subtle natural flavor and scent. #2 F&T HDT or Toque Natural Toast I can’t decide between 2 greats I’ll take either, I’ll take both. #1 Toque, Whiskey and Honey, All day, every day, can’t go wrong with this one. Ask again next week and I’ll probably flip that list or have a new one

S

@Fire_Starter thanks for that great list. Cheese n bacon snuff, really?

S

@3_D Thanks for that great list I like the sound of lime toast.

F

yep, its a toque haha. i couldnt resist trying it, and i loved it, but its one to use when you dont mind it lingering.

S

@Fire starter I like those lingering scents, for me that’s what its all about.

F

Ah, see i like nic and i dont like scents that cross over unless i mixed deliberately. so one scent lingering too long when i want to use another snuff is a problem for me.

S

@Firestarter0 OK I can see that, yeah if you were snuffing frequently it would muck things up. I often keep doing the same one for most of the day and switch up only with a clean snout.

This looks like a great thread to help picking out some things for my next order. I’m still working on the F&T’s and plan to try Seville, Morroco and Santo domingo next and since I like the 4 F&T’s I’ve bought so far I’m hoping these will be good also. Dragun. Field of Juniper and Viking Dark which I have seen mentioned often so there seems to be concensus, are also on the radar. Currently my favourites are the F&T’s because they are rich and luxurious and exude to me quality and at a decent price but I get through most Wos No.22 toast so I guess it must be my top choice. Why? I just like it for continual use but I do mix some Sandalwood into it to moisen it and it gives it an extra kick. Makes it more usable too i.e. not so fine and dry, but I also love to take it raw. I could live with just this lot permenantly but of course it would be nice to be further impressed with new even more enjoyable finds so I guess it’s on with the search.

This is pretty liable to change but in no particular order… 1.) W.E. Garrett Scotch - just the best scotch IMO, I could use it all day (and frequently do) 2.) WoS Rose - I love this one, I just like how roses smell, it also packs a pretty good punch for a floral snuff, and it’s nice and dry 3.) SG Kendal Brown Original - I really like earthy snuffs, this one smells like I’m in an old pub in the countryside next to a sheep farm to me 4.) Dholakia Black - the best of the farmyard snuffs I’ve found, it almost smells like “water” to me too if that makes any sense, like I’m standing next to a river 5.) F&T HDT - good toast, I don’t know if it’s my favorite toast or not because there are a lot I haven’t tried and the ones I have tried are very similar to my nose, next order I’ll get several to compare.

S

@horus92 great list, thanks for sharing.

K

Samuel Gawith : Banana , Best tasting drip of any snuff I’ve ever tried and every batch is diffrent in a good way.

M

Abraxas Premium and SWS Field of Junipers are at the top of my list at the moment.

S

@kurtsnose hmmm interesting, does it truly taste like banana?

S

@Mouse I’ve been seeing a lot of talk about the field of juniper, may need to put it on the to try list. Thanks

F

If I had to choose just one, it would be FUBAR Grunt or Abraxas Cafe 11? They are probably tied at the moment for me. Grunt is earth, wood and leather in an easy to take package. Cafe 11 is coffee candy for your nose.

S

@fbones24 very interesting descriptions. Thanks.

K

@snuff_hound Ya Kinda Sorta it’s a nice banana scent with a really good tobacco drip even smooth pairs well with food and goes really good with Grain Alcohol or whisky or Root-Beer it’s my comfort snuff .

B

Abraxas Cafe 11 after trying this coffee and chocolate lovers snuff you would think you found nirvana. I know I have!

S

@basement_shaman I’m going to have to start saving up some money. I’m getting so many great suggestions, I want to try em all!

S

@kurtsnose I never thought I’d want to try banana, but now I’m tempted. Anything that pairs well with root beer has to be a winner!

My all time favourite has to be Mullins and Westley’s Mullins Particular. It is an SP-style with hints of cigar box and just a little rose. It is very smooth and for me, a perfect flavour. Others on the list are: - From the F&T line, I consider HDT a very delicious snuff. Rich, nutty, butterscotch flavours, and goes exceptionally well with a morning coffee. - In terms of plain tobacco snuffs, SG Black Rappee is the polar opposite of HDT. Excellent dark-fired tobaccos, very coarse and moist. The snuff flour reminds me of a good compost and will fall out of the nose and onto the jumper. But what stays in there is excellent! - F&T Santo Domingo has been my newest love. Dark, fairly coarse and lightly scented. An excellent evening snuff.

M

Always very difficult. The all time favourite, so far, has to be Bernard’s Gekachelter Virginie. The others include (but are not limited to): WoS Grand Cairo and Rosemary, F&T Princes and Santo Domingo (HDT, too, is making a rapid ascent to the top of the list), McChrystal’s Clove and White Elephant.

H

For complexity, its Bernard Weihnachtpris. For everyday unadulterated tobacco, its F&T IHT Fruit flavor, I prefer McChrystals Raspberry Floral, I prefer a number of WoS including Kendal Brown, Burgundy, and many others. This list is subject to change…

Hmmmmm. Bananas - check Food - check White lightning - check Whiskey - check Root beer - check Thank you! Looks like I will have to add this when I finally try some Abraxas. And order some bulk of my favorite Whiskey & Honey! It is buttery smooth and has a great flavor that instantly clicked with my pallet. Have a ton here I have tried. Honestly I like them all. But none grabbed me like the Whiskey Honey.

toque almond toast. love the tobacco flovoring–about right for me. most important–it treats my nose right. my nose really likes it–sending a message to my brain “i’m your darling”. but like a good friend–it drains a bit–doesn’t stuff up or give me a hard time. if i abuse it–it doesn’t harbor ill fellings–blows out clean and asks " why do you dally with others" too cute–by half. i love others for sure–but have a soft spot for sure.

S

After 3 years, I think I’ve finally worked out the answer to this conundrum of a question. My favourite snuff is whatever I’m in the mood for.

S

I’d have to say SG KB Original. It’s real tobacco with a man sized grind and the most perfect aroma.

D

Right now my list is all WOS: Tom Buck - So far the true “best” SP I have found Crumbs of Comfort - I love the ever so light touch of menthol to it, which is really more a product of being mint flavored than mentholated #22 - I find its character more subtle and smooth compared to US scotches. But Lime Toast from toque is a close second. I think I need to try Toast and Marmalade. Something about Wilsons grind just agrees with me, not sure what specifically it is about it, but provided it is fresh and properly stored I get great enjoyment from their product. Ken

S

Kinda new to snuff, but so far…Himalayan, Swami, 6 photo medicated, and my own home ground/Orange peppermint pipe cut… I do like the American snuffs a lot… :(|)

S

Depends on my mood and what i feel like at that moment, love café 11 the best for its all round brilliance of flavour, grind and nic hit.also sws mull of oa for the same reasons and toque for fab flavours also.my top 3 snuff makers.

B

They’re all good so far, but I do very well with Toque Toast&Marmalade, F&T Macouba, and 6 Photo Anarkali. They’re the three that are on my reorder list almost automatically.

Z

F&T HDT- I have to carefully marshall my urge to carry at least in fiver of it in the box or run out trying. SG Wild Duck- I like several of SG’s variations of an earthy tobacco with a mint additive. But Wild Duck captures it best with darkness and a punch. Love the burn. Viking Dark- When fresh, VD is one you’ll want to share (behold the world’s best out of context quote!). A familiar dark base with plenty of punch and flavor. Toque Almond Toast- Toque hangs with best toasts out there with this one. WoS IHT #22- gotta have this one just so the HDT wont run out.

J

#1 - Would be a tie between McC’s O&G and WoS SM Blue. I always have one or the other on me. Sometimes both. Which ever one I’m carrying, the first pinch of the day makes me wonder why I ever carry anything else. After a couple of days with the O&G I miss the camphor of the Blue, but a couple of days with the SM Blue and I miss the complexity of the O&G. Sorry, I couldn’t pick just one. #2 - Non-menthols are easier - I’ve yet to find one to beat Tom Buck. (Still trying, though!)
