Just thought about this today, considering its one of few full days off that I have (being self employed sucks sometimes lol!). Today after running personal errands and mowing the lawn, I was so happy to be able to just lounge around with my laptop, a beer and snacks. So… What’s your favorite “lounge around” snack and drink combination, and why? Not necessarily the “oh my Gawd dinner isn’t ready yet and i’m hungry” type of snack…but the snack that satisfies. I’ll start… I have several. I have a weakness for Cheeto puffs when I drink beer. Something about the airy consistency of the puffs and orangey salty powder they’re coated in, is tasty with beer. Poppycock popcorn when I’m having root beer or ginger ale. Cracker Jack will do in the absence of Poppycock. I like to put a handful in my mouth and take a swig of root beer or ginger ale and chew…the sweetness and the crunch is pretty cool. Peanuts and cayenne powder, or dried squid with cayenne… with Pinot gris (I know, weird, right?). Just for the taste. I think its awesome. Okay… so what’s YOUR favorite snack and drink?

X

Nuts, dried fruits, hummus with pita, salsa with nachos. I usually drink tea with everything, but I do like beer, ginger beer and root beer.

B

I don’t consume hard drinks , but I like to snack, celery with cream cheese and celery with peanut butter and raisins. Nuts, berry in season and assorted fruit. Hard pretzels and hot mustard dip, multi grain crackers with cream cheese and jalapeno jelly,Combo baked pretzel fill with jalapeno cheese. tortilla chips with hot cheese sauce or with hot salsa. rhybread bowl filled with spinach dip or dry beef dip. Strong black coffee hot or cold or some teas green, black and red hot or cold.Fruit infused spring water chilled.

D

Sunflower seeds. I always have a bag or two at the house. They helped me the first time i quit smoking too. And beef jerky. Teryiaki is my favorite. When I make it at home the dehydrator is usually half empty by the time its done. I can’t help myself.

_

Baby carrots dipped in hummus ( garlic hummus preferred ) ~ shelled lightly salted pistachios ~ falafel balls ( fava beans preferred which comes out greener rather than garbanzo chic peas which comes out yellow inside ) Dried Fruit ~ baked green plaintains - green are lower in sugar. When I wasn’t watching what I ate anything that crunched, hard pretzels , loved blue cheese pretzel combos, norwegian multi grain crackers with havarti cheese and Nova Scotia smoked salmon, mini hot dogs in a jacket, nachos with the works… I better stop now gaining weight as I type

T

Jalapeno jelly! Oooh, Now I want some. One of my students made me a wonderful jar of jalapeno jelly and now I’m trying to figure out how to hint and getting more.

P

My favorite midnight snack is simply Saghetti Sauce. I have been know to put away an entire jar in a night. Edit: My favorite usually snack(IE when i’m awake) is a family seceret. Since i consider you all family, here it is. You make a bag of microwave popcorn. While it is still radiating, you procure a packet of dry cheese sauce from a box of Kraft TM. As soon as the popcorn is done and still hot and buttery, you open the bag slightly and pour in the cheese. Shake briskly- the best cheesy popcorn ever. On this topic- Kraft TM is now marketing the dry cheese sauce in a shaker, my life is a little more complete. I require a huge amount of sodium to function :-h

T

Oh my gosh, I must try making the cheesy popcorn. Thanks for the family secret, @PotPoe!! ^:)^

Nuts, seeds and dried fruit are regular ones for me, as is toast and marmite

A

Chorizo or salami and cheese, vintage cheddar usually, and green olives. For sweets different kind of mints from Tic Tacs to current favourite Jakemans soothing sweets.

N

Smart Food the snack for us smart people

H

Cold pizza

H

Vietnamese vermicelli (with LOTS of fish sauce) comes in a close second.

H

Monster munch (monster feet shaped corn snack’s) Beef flavor and red wine, Nom! =P~

M

salted peanuts in the shell

T

Sounds good!!! Have you had “Pancit”? (Filipino noodles, similar to the vietnamese vermicelli you speak of). My Dad’s recipe had lots of “patis” (fish sauce) as well as some soy sauce/loads of garlic. When I’m lazy and don’t want to cook a full meal, I just make some noodles, throw some Patis, soy, and sauteed garlic together (and whatever meat or veggies left over in the fridge). Bowl full of goodness in only 5 minutes.

N

Trail mix and cayenne honey tea. Peppers, lots of pepper’s anytime, all the time. Pickled garlic cloves and whole grain toast with red pepper jelly or jalapeno jelly. Hemp vanilla granola with dark chocolate almond milk. Any beef, ostrich, venison etc. jerky. And my favorite, peanut butter and pickle sandwich.

H

Kim Chi. Indian Hot Pickled Limes, Pickled Carrots, Pickled Garlic… Just about any Indian pickled fruit or vegetables!

P

Cheetos (crunchy) and Coke Classic

T

Archer Farms makes a bunch of different trail mix variants that are awesome. The problem is once I start eating them I can’t stop til the container is half empty and that stuff isn’t cheap. Zen Party mix has wasabi peas, pretzels, nuts, and some other stuff and then the cajun mix is similar but with a spicy sweet flavor.

H

@TobaccyLassy: - Cheetos of all types, I really like the ones where you end up with a bag that has twice as much cheesy stuff as its supposed to and all the Cheetos are dark orange. Delicious. - German Landjaeger (dried sausage) and Polski Kabanosy (same but more fat) - Hummus and pita chips - Home made popcorn popped traditionally on the stove with a bit of salt and butter

H

Do you guys thing our love of snuff, and sometimes for some of us pipe tobacco has given us a bent for stronger flavours?

T

Great question, @Hisgirlfriday! I’m guessing the appreciation for scent and flavor nuances (with snuffers/pipe tobacco/cigars), might have something to do with appreciating stronger flavors.

H

@TobaccyLassy I haven’t been smoking a pipe for too long, but it has made me think, think about my new approach to the world of taste, and aroma, It’s given me a new perspective, for instance, now when I have my morning coffee, I will take brown sugar lump’s as it gets stronger and sweeter and you drink your coffee, A taste I never took notice of before, It was just coffee, and when cooking a chilli for tea I couldn’t find a smoked note in there so added a small taste of smoke flavoring, these are all thing’s I never “tasted” before and Experienced, pipe smoking really is a new world :)>-

B

My favourite thing at the moment is biltong. There’s a South African shop near to where I work that does a chilli biltong and it’s very, very tasty!

Just got back from a place that serves dim sum all day…and I forgot all about jin dui up until a few hours ago. Yummy sesame mochi balls. If I could get my hands on a bag of those I’d be set with some green tea!

J

Yogurt, yogurtand more yogurt!

All this morning I was just grazing on raw sugar snap peas, raw baby corn and apples, so I had deep fried fish this evening to balance the diet out a bit

B

brandy with absinthe. It’s not for everyone but I love it. Snacks A good mango. Oranges. Carrots. Candy.

B

Anything salty is good for snacks. Mostly chips, preferably kettle cooked, or nuts. I don’t drink alcohol anymore, so I tend to drink a lot of unsweetened ice tea in the evenings.

F

i do like fresh chilled veg/fruit as snacks, but i dont tend to snack i the way most do- ill eat less meals, and maybe have a tin of beans for snack. cold, straight from the tin my thing is i tend to drink a lot though. mmm, radler, coke, fanta, root beer, sparkling water…

Here’s one I like. Tinned chick peas, sugar snap peas, baby corn, cherry tomatoes, all quickly fried in olive oil (just to warm them rather than fully cook them) with a good splash or three of tobasco sauce and hendersons relish (a local condiment) - Yum!!

H

I’m partial to popcorn. What can I say, I’m a pleb I also love to nibble on habaneros. Is beer a snack?

5

Is beer a snack?

It should be a meal. If it’s only a snack you’re not having enough

H

Beer really is a meal, six beers is at least 900 calories, started getting a beer gut so I’ve had to be more sparing lately.

5

Yup! I caught sight of my self inflicted abdominal baggage in the mirror the other day and decided that something needed to be done. I have started making inroads to culling the flab, but only time will tell whether I’ll be able to keep it up or whether I’ll sink back to feeding the beast

Just brought in a jug of sun tea, and for the same reason. :-bd

T

Lately, I’ve been foregoing the cheetos for roasted unsalted peanuts in the shell. Boy am I glad I don’t have a peanut allergy…I can’t stop with these peanuts!

S

Raw sugar snap peas, a decent freshly baked bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar to dip in, good beer, really into brewdog punk IPA at the moment or a really good red wine. If I can’t be arsed crisps and lidt 50% coca solids chocolate with chili. Always there and never forgotten is my beloved biltong!

B

BBQ Peanuts you just can’t eat one. I limit myself to one hand full, other wise I finish the bag. Made that mistake when I drank at a bar, free nuts and when I wasn’t looking the bar maid would fill the bowl. So it look like I had not put a dent on the bowl, and in reality I ate two bowls full. Oh Henry and payday bars passing for days after.Never again is what I said the time before. https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQZkRxftLrS3hzcJQISgDmb7jujNh3-OkQR19JTJYaPz-\\_xXNjE https://encrypted-tbn3.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcTleBwFRsG-UaUwVbhRSHOd-zxtu03RkpKijud4JVrzGuYhk1Bv

S

@basement_shaman hahahahahaha

O

Usually just pretzels.

T

I’m still going crazy over peanuts. Every time I go to the store lately, I’ve been buying a bag of peanuts before the previous one runs out.

S

Can’t go wrong with Gardetto’s

X

@TobaccyLassy You’ve gotta try these: http://www.hubspeanuts.com/

P

At present, PBJ sandwiches

F

Figs. Just plain fresh figs. I could eat pounds of them at a time!

C

Achilles’ heel snack: Peanut butter-filled pretzels. Can’t buy too often, could easily get obese off them

P

Now that it’s in season, ice cold watermelon

S

I like rare cheeses from france, spain, and italy on crustini. Sometimes goat cheese with herbs and spices mixed in. Or I’ll marinate cheese in oil and herbs. Love a good beer. Darker the better.

I like the sound of that old chap For myself; my favourites are fresh figs for fruit, croque-madame or Reblochon with a nice Bière de Garde - To be fair I’m not big into my snacking, having largely displaced this with tobacco use for many years.

S

cashews

M

@snuffysmiff Love you’re advatar dude! I know that the gods of Snuffhouse just assign them randomly, but that could be me! Tash, monocle - Its me!!!

X

I don’t think I have a favorite. I enjoy stuffed grape leaves a lot. I’ve been craving them lately.

W

ATM Cocoa Roast Almonds.

B

Recently it been fruit , Plums just got ripe, the tomatoes are coming in, so that is the snack of the moment.

S

I’ve been experimenting with pickling lately. Cocktail onions, okra, green beans and vegetable medleys. There’s something about vinegar that I like.

S

smoked almonds…must replenish supply :(|)

B

This week it is home grown tomatoes fresh off the vine. I think I will grab some leafs and scent some Scotch
