What's the most "Indian" of all Indian snuffs?

Meaning, with herbal and incense-like smells, rather than natural, heavily mentholated, or flavors typical of Western snuffs (cola, berry etc.).  Kailash sounds like what I’m after.  Any others?  I haven’t tried any yet.

I too… am very curious about this…

I would suggest try all of the six photo and Dholakia range. There is something there for everybody. Try the madras type snuffs if you love strong tobacco flavor. I am myself new in trying the Indians themselves but into my foray of 4 months of so, I love the 6 photo Motia, Super Kailash, Special and Cheeta on top of my list. I like the Dholakia Sparrow, Swiss chocolate, Kamal and Dholakia white. You can search for my brief reviews on the ones I’ve tried and go from there. And of course, listen to the more experienced members on this forum. Cheers and all the best!

To answer your base question, whats most “Indian” and incense type and full of “Indian” flavor / fragrances, the following should be it -

6 Photo - Super Kailash (very herbal scented after the initial mint rush),  Anarkali (rose scented), Motia (tobacco scent and camphor - love it!), Begum green snuff (unique green snuff)- Cheeta is a fine dry type but has an Indian scent to it (as per me).

NB Madras and SVS Madras - pure tobacco heaven

Dholakia (from my limited try at a few of them) - Kamal, Sparrow, Smokers blend and Dholakia White (this is a fine dry but no fragrance at all)

5 photo - Himalaya (mentholated but has a barnyard scent to it - a black snuff)

Horse Brand Joshi

Swastik - Light mentholated and mild tobacco scent.

Super Kailash smells like a trip down the spice isle of an Indian market.  Delightful.

@SHbickel, how would you characterize regular Kailash?  I understand they’re totally different.

@Chico I haven’t actually tried Kailash.

To further elucidate Super Kailash: to me it smells of nag champa, candied anise, sandalwood, with a hint of mint.  It’s “exotic”, like walking through a Indian market if the spices and the incense were in the same aisle.

@SHbickel - thanks, it sounds exactly the kind of thing I’m looking for!

They are all great, but Kailash is awesome. Thank for the reminder–I’d forgotten I have a couple hundred grams jarred up. Just dug it out for a hit.

I agree w/ mecompco, and all the other comments. They are all great, but you really should try Kailish, and Super Kailsih. I don’t know which is which; the tin I have is yellow, and it doesn’t say the name of the snuff, but the snuff itself is light brown. Anyway, I don’t think one particular snuff can be described as “most Indian”, as there are many types of Indian snuffs, ranging from insane menthol-incense, to white snuffs with almost no scent at all, to Madras snuffs fried in ghee. They are all different, and you should try as many as you can.

Super kailash is light brown snuff in a pale yellow tin while kailash is black snuff in a golden Color tin

Yeah, I’m sure I’ll try many of them at some point…  So Madras snuff means fried in ghee? Definitely have to try that.  I love Indian food, incense, and culture in general so I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy their snuffs, too.
