In my opinion white snuffs are BEST off the fingernail. If you mean the easiest way to take them that would be a large pinch between thumb and middle finger, and instead of sniffing it yawn slowly with your mouth close (as in drop your jaw to create a vacuum).
Dump a huge pile on the back of your hand and then take a huge fast sniff. Be sure to record yourself doing this so we can see just how much you enjoy it. >:)
Get accustomed to using fine snuff. It is not beginner friendly; but once mastered you can really enjoy it. <:-P

Why don’t you?

How would one do that?
Practice is all I can say. I can’t take a pile in a huge fast sniff but I can definitely take a big pile with a few slow, gentle sniffs off the back of my hand without coughing, or only one light cough. This was inconceivable when I first tried them haha. Like I said, drop your jaw. Yawn, but with your lips closed. Do that slowly with a large pinch held tightly and it should be easier, you’ll still cough and your eyes will still water but it will not be AS bad. Then over time you won’t really cough at all this way. Edit: I’ve seen video of old Tibetan men using a white sort of snuff and they sniffed it HARD! They didn’t cough or grimace a bit. Maybe in a few decades we will be on their level…
It’s odd, but as I’ve tried to master WE, DW and WP I’ve never experienced any burn, watery eyes, etc. Just that damned cough.
i find taking a big breath in and holding it before doing the sniff helps. Also a wet nose helps it stick rather than going straight through to make you cough
@indiansnuff, just indelicatley wetted my nose with a “moistened” pinky finger. Great flavor from WE, but still had a modest cough. It is what it is, guess. Well worth the small inconvenience.
@mecompco personally i just get a load on my finger and just stick it up there without sniffing and stick it to the side of the wall of my nose. Not the most prettiest of images i’m sure but it works for me
Add a moist snuff to the DW and gradually reduce the amount of moist snuff till you add none. This may take several weeks till you master using the white straight I had suggested before to hydrate dry snuff and as it drys out you get accustomed to using it. The main thing is to enjoy your snuff experience, If it is painful then it cannot possibly be enjoyable ,unless you enjoy pain My preferred method , fill a bottle cap with water, place in a container surround it with snuff place lid over container, let sit overnight open and all the water is absorbed into snuff; rather then direct contact. There are many ways to hydrate snuff .Spray bottle, Hot shower, moist fruit, Slice of potato, anything that has moisture can hydrate snuff. If you wouldn’t eat it then don’t use it.
I know this isn’t a popular technique, but…you could put some on your finger, stick your finger up your nose and wipe. Then you can sniff lightly if you like. No oversniffing, no lung hits or eye hits or whatever. If you don’t have sufficient breath control for the fine powder, then just place it physically. Yes, it isn’t that suave to stick your finger up your nose…but it works. Some folks lick their finger first, so that the snuff sticks well until it is placed in the nose. Just a thought.

Hmm. When I was in Tibet, I came across a snuff that is like what we on snuffhouse call “White Indian”, very similar to Dholakia White. But they also have some kind of snuff that is considerably whiter than the “White” Indians, and that seems to have very little burn. I’m not even sure it’s made of, or even with, tobacco. It looks like chalk dust. I don’t know why people think DW is that difficult. Personally, I find the moist, coarse snuffs almost impossible. You have to hoover them in forcefully and quickly pinch your nose to prevent the whole thing falling all over you. Never have that problem with a nice, fine, dry snuff!
The coarse moist ones are hard to take but at least they don’t burn your lungs! No matter how hard I’ve tried or mixed it with moist snuffs it always goes back my throat, and then there’s the smell! Not nice.
I prefer a small spoon with DW. Slow sniff… no cough ever but my eyes do water like my first snuff every time and I use it about 8 times daily.
“Practice makes perfect”.
I use the anatomical snuffbox technique for all my snuffs, and just figured out how best to do it depending on the grind. Only recently got used tothe White Elephant, which I believe is similar in grind to Dholakia White (?) and I use the throat blocking off method mentioned above plus allowing more of a gap between hand and schnoz. Works for me Practice does make perfect though!
