What’s the best peaty, smoky, dark, oily, rich, moist snuff you know of?

S

I’ve tried WoS Brunswick, WoS Best Dark, SG Scotch Black, SG KB Special, Lofzbeck’s Perle, and SG Princes Dark. The Princes is really in a different class. I’m looking for dark, smoky, oily, rich, moist Rapees or medium grinds to try. Ideas on what to try next?

N

Try SG London Brown. It fits your description to a T.

S

@Nachman Thanks. I’ll give it a shot and see if it scratches just the right itch. Haha.

P

What about NTSU

S

@PieterClaassen NTSU, but aren’t there different color label designations on that one? Are you talking ‘black’?

H

Definately a Schmalzler – try Bernard, Lotzbeck or Pöschl. Second choice would be a Latakia

U

Gekachelter Virginie from Bernard

S

@Uwe Thanks. I’ve been reading about that one. It’s on the list.

S

@Micheltn Thanks. F&T Old Paris I’ve had. It’s kind of sweet, what with the dates and all. I’m not looking for anything sweet. I haven’t tried the F&T Bordeaux. The Molen’s that you mentioned: A/P and AO 1860, I’ve had and enjoy very much. The A/P I find particularly tasty. Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll have to try F&T Bordeaux some day soon.

P

London Brown,is as has been said, what you have described.

S

@petersuki I’m excited. I just ordered some along with some other items from mr.snuff. The package should be arriving at some point next week. Eager to try this one.

S

@howdydave Yeah, I’d like to try more schmalzlers. So far I’ve only had one: Pöschl Basil Doppel A, which was sweet (something I didn’t know before I ordered it) and not that strong, oily, dark, creosote-ish, smoky, leathery tobacco taste that I am finding that I like so much. I’m into trying another schmalzer or two in the future. From what I’ve seen several of the Bernard’s snuffs look promising. Thanks.

M

Gawith Hoggarth Kendal Brown sorta smells and tastes like tires if that helps, but in a favorable way

S

@matsnuffs Got that one. Think darker yet and richer yet. I want something to switch it up with F&T’s Santo Domingo. Not sure if you’ve had that one and while it does have some nice woodsy type essences in with the tobac (cedar, sandalwood, and a tad absolute violet (perfect here IMHO) the stuff is rock solid strong and dark with heaploads of complexity–A total classic fav of mine–I’d like to find a ‘partner’ to it in order to switch it up a bit. Looks like this SG London Brown may be pretty nice, although different is fine. I’m not looking for two identical snuffs, just one in a closely related ‘class’.

X

NTSU but avoid the green (mint menthol)… whew… It’s like sniffing a truck muffler. I never had the regular, but the green was also very strong on barnyard. I’d suspect the regular would also. In fact, you might want to skip it altogether.

M

The F&T’s Bordeaux is Excellent. But honestly, your description reminds me somewhat of Bernards Zwiefacher…

A

Tranters Latakia, don’t know if its still on their list though.

O

Scotch Black. Better than London Brown IMO.

P

Very nice. But not so moist and sticky and tar-y

S

@petersuki Yeah, Scotch Black is nice, but kind of on the dry side. @Micheltn Yep, I’m wanting to try Dholakia Black. On the list.

S

@MikeMoose yeah, Bernard’s is on the list. Haven’t tried any of their’s yet.
