@crullers Yeah it is really sad. I have one open and one in the freezer. I really like this stuff too, I can’t do it all day but it is a nice diversion from regular tobacco flavors that I normally use. Wish I had room to pick up a roll before it totally disappears.

@perique Just freezer kept. I traded for them so there were intervals out of that frigid environment. Snus is tougher than most people think. I keep a few rolls in the freezer in zip locks but usually I have a half dozen different cans open and the worse that happens is they dry out a little.

Trying this ginger chema/makla I bought today and it’s super good. Constituency is like Algerian makla; tobacco is coarse and semi-moist, quite easy to use and fits nicely under the lip. Ginger favouring is strong and intense but pleasurable, like strong curry and mustard, scent gets to nose too. Best makla I have had this far. I think it’s name is Sante Passe Richesse, at least that’s the only thing I could read in the pouch, maybe it is kind of health warning. Everything else is in Arabic, Urdu, Farsi and God knows what. Other new one, Malikat Africa is a plain, smoky tobacco makla, rather majestic as name implies. Good stuff both!

well honestly i only tried it once so far , i planned on grabbing it for the impending sinus infection i get this time of year. I did get a taste , but i once i broke into the package i saw white oxides on the outer leaf and was worried it grew mold , since it probably sat on the shelf for a bit( i say that based on the ladys face who sold it to me) But it probably wasnt mold after all ( i hope) so i took a taste , it was sweet and appley , i got a nice nicotine rush for a very small bit , but im not a chew user and the juice got to be to much real quick , probably only 4-5 minutes , ill give it another go soon

@Dogwalla when you are coming off cigs Extra Starks and Starks are good as it keeps the levels if nic high which satisfies like smoking does and eliminates the urge to smoke. You can wean down to normal strength ones but I like the taste of General ES and Skruf ES so I still use them. Snus is like snuff, you will try lots before you find the ones you like and your tastes change so never throw a can away and come back to it (with the exception of General and Thunder wintergreen they are just vile!).

After a steady diet of General OP for the last week I’ve decided to have some Ettan Lös and it is delicious. Especially after a week or two without any Ettan. I only have 1 unopened can after I finish this one. Gonna have to reorder soon.

@chef_dean I enjoyed the Lab Series 01. I read so many people complaining about the drip. I didn’t find it to have much more of a drip than any other SM brands. The taste was nice but my favorite part about 01 was the portion size. Although I’m used to a General portion, I really like how 01 portion are longer and more narrow. I should try some General long portion on my next order.

@Claydonious I like the Lab Series 01 & 06. I have to say Ettan is my all time favorite. It is straightforward, but has layers of sublime flavor. I have about 30 cans of other brands that I purchased while exploring, but I use them between cans of Ettan. Grov is my next favorite. I haven’t tried any los yet. Maybe next SC order.

@basement_shaman the american “snuses” are crap, should be illegal to call them snus IMO. Just sweet pouches, no real nicotine in them, pouch material is rough I found. If you want snus, only way to go is swedish.

@Skell18 @basement_shaman I’m used to sweeter tobaccos like Skoal, so I find their offering very tasty, even if it is WAY sweeter than the Swedish version. I just have a problem getting enough nic out of them to hold me over, but I’m a heavy nic fiend. For people who enjoy lesser amounts, I’m sure it would contain more than enough, and you don’t have to order it from overseas. I think a can of Skoal Snus or their Xtra product is $2.85 in my area. I get buy-one-get-one and $1.00 coupons all the time. I love real snus, but convenience/price does take over sometimes.

@basement_shaman wasn’t having a go mate, just not to my taste and far too sweet for me (prob could have phrased it better). If you want a swedish one that is similar in the sweetness stakes try Jakobssons (the melon smells like juicy fruit gum). @Dogwalla I would also suggest the Jaks if you like it sweet. I do understand what you’re saying RE availability and price.

Trying to get there piece of the oral tobacco market. like dogwalla said .and I had coupons. If redman makes a snus, heck I will try it with a coupon. Dholakia Loose Snus looks promising I like their other products .but yes the swiss have 300 years behind them so they set the bar to be reached. I like their chocolates but Hershey’s is in my back yard and make a good product.

Cope smooth hickory finally got my Northener order after a month has gone by. Before that I tried some stokers Tennessee chew. It’s ok but it gave me heartburn in a matter of minutes! Don’t know why I bother with oral tobacco other than it really takes away cigarette urges!

@Skell18 No they don’t break up easy. About 1/2 hour in there were a few crumb that come loose. The kakes are larger then I am used to. Less dry then their moist snuff ,flavor full but something is off for being straight it seems to have a cooling effect like wintergreen. These are new on the market so I had to give them a try.

Yep, Ettan is my favorite Snus.

Haven’t had any snus in a long time, so when I saw 99cent tins of the Americanized general I had to pick some up. Have a nordic mint in right now, and its quite enjoyable. It’s far better than camel frost obviously. Tastes notably less salty than i remember from the last time I tried one of these. Fairly solid nic hit as well. I’m going to have to pick up a can of the classic blend next time I’m at that gas station. Experienced snus users: How does the general nordic mint/classic blend compare to standard Swedish snus? I presume it’s more sweet and less salty? Cheers.

@Maneikis its just slightly sweeter than normal general mint and doesn’t taste as salty, that was the only difference I found and you only get 15 portions in a can, only managed to ever try one can before the source was cut off again. The new general classic mint is very nice though as I was never the biggest mint snus fan. 5th Olde VIng Portion, woof!

General Classic Blend. I’m not an experienced snuser by any means but I really like this stuff. It has a nice bergamot/citrus top note with a bit of caramel and rich tobacco flavor in there as well. I like that its not sweet like the nordic mint, I’ll probably buy these most often. At a gas station near where I live they sell $1.00 trial packs with 10 portions. I’ve heard people say a lot of gas station General is expired, but not these. The funny thing is that each one comes with a coupon for $1 off any general snus can. It’s not against the terms of service so I may use one every time I buy a can, making my snus effectively free. I would feel kind of guilty doing this for too long though : / You guys think it would be morally wrong to never pay for my snus? I’m afraid they’re only $.99 because no one was buying them so they want to empty their stock. If that’s the case I’ll be very sad hahaha

got a question about snus. What happens to it when it expires? Is it just dried out or does it get moldy or something else bad?

@Mouse nothing from what I have found. If its not stored properly after it expires it will dry out a bit if its an original portion or loose, white portions just go slightly dryer than they already are but you can easily rehydrate them. I always keep my open snus or snus I am about to use thats in date in the fridge, everything else goes into the freezer for long term storage. Opened a tin of julesnus at christmas that expired last christmas, was as fresh as they day I bought it. Nothing bad happens when it expires, the flavour can diminish a bit but thats about it.

In my experience expired snus does not taste very good. Stale might be a good description. Although snus can go bad, it would be more likely from a mishandling of it than age. If you feel like spitting it out then it’s no good. If you don’t then your good to go. Still, don’t go buying thirty year old snus off E-Bay… well maybe for the tin.

@Maneikis it tastes like grog which is a scandinavian christmas drink, i.e mulled wine, thats the best way to describe it. If you like mulled wine with a bit more cinnamon you will like the julesnus, which one have you got? The Gotlands one is more clove, the nordstrommen is more cinnamon. I prefer the nordstrommen for taste but the gotlands smells nicer, the gotlands goes very bitter too but tastes sweeter to start with. Hope you enjoy it

General Wintergreen. This stuff isn’t near as bad as I’ve heard, in fact I kinda like it. I am a bit partial to wintergreen though. My expedition to find snus was a success, found a place with a decent amount of snus. I got a can of mint, wintergreen, and jagar pris for 16 bucks total, not bad I’d say. Only tried the wintergreen so far. Anyone tried jagar pris? Did I make a mistake getting that over General OP? I’m sure ill be visiting that store again very soon so I’m not worried

@Maneikis good selection, but IMO mistake not to take the general OP over the jagarpris, should have got both lol. I am not a huge fan of jagarpris snus, I prefer the tobacco cuts, but it has a very pleasant herby taste, the general is hands down one of the best snus ever made and one everyone should try. I am not a fan of general wintergreen or any wintergreen snus, wintergreen, for me, only works in dip.

@Skell18 My reasoning behind not getting the General OP is that I have General long portion on its way in the mail now. Figured I should pick up something different since I expect the long to have a similar taste. I’ll go to that store again when I’m not in a hurry and pick up the OP as well as the General Los (I think I saw some…). Have you tried Blue Ocean? They carried that also. The guy in the shop mentioned that they’ve tried carrying nasal snuff before but there was no market for it. Maube there will be soon. Fortunately he said he was selling a good amount of snus, so I think he’ll be keeping it stocked up. I have a General Mint in right now and I really like this one. Less overpowering than the wintergreen, and with a more natural taste than the Nordic Mint. Any sort of mint flavor gets a bit tiresome over time though imo

@Maneikis which long portion did you get? Long original, long strong or long extra strong? They all taste different and different to the OP except the long original, its just a long OP lol the loose is excellent. Blue Ocean is ok, the portions we get are blue not sure if due tot he FDA you get them blue, but they are nice. My personal fav is General Extra Strong and any of the white portions. Nick & Johnny Original Edge for the thread.

My order has arrived! Jakobsson’s Icefruit in right now. I like this stuff, but its not my favorite. The flavor isn’t quite what I expected based on the smell but its nice. Very manageable drip, mellow flavor and decent nicotine content (9mg/portion?) make this a solid snus in my eyes. Trying very hard to avoid opening the other cans from my order… I already have ~6 open cans of snus right now with virtually no ability for refrigerated storage aside from the trunk of my car at night. How long can an unopened snus can remain fresh at room temp? And open cans probably start drying up within a few days to a week? I have 2 of my unopened cans in the freezer (tobacco unfriendly home and space being the limiting factors) and all my open cans sitting around at room temp. I assume white portions go “bad” less quickly due to the lower initial moisture?

@Maneikis they will last about a week out of the fridge when opened before they start to dry out, don’t worry too much about the white portions, you can rehydrate original portions though so its not the end of the world. Ice Fruit is a good starter snus but you will find your tastes change over time, now Ice Fruit is way too sweet for me, only jaks sweet one I can still use is the melon, as its just brilliant! Jaks classic strong is a regular in my rotation, you missed the good old days of gotlands gul and green, I really wish they would make those again as especially the gul, was snus perfection! I normally have 2 - 4 cans open at any one time, sometimes only one, at the moment I have 3 open, General OP, Jaks Melon and Oden’s Extra Stark Kanel, jaks almost gone and then Lab 02 next Jaks Melon for the thread.

Offroad Coola. Decent, but if I’m going to reach for a flavored snus it’s usually not going to be this one. Doesn’t taste particularly like Cola to my palate
