What to try next ?

Hello, I’m new to snuffs. I started with Navy scotch sweet about 2 months ago, and placed my first order recently. What I’ve tried so far that I like is Poschl’s Packard club (my favorite so far), apricot, and president. Tried rooster too strong straight but It’s good mixed with the apricot. I’ve really disliked samuel gawith’s cherry and Poschl’s cherry ,orange and the spearmint. So with my limited experience what should I try next ? Thanks

Ntsu!

Pick a half dozen Wilsons of Sharrow: they have a large and well rounded variety of snuffs. English styles are more forgiving than Scotches and not waxy like Pöschl. Make sure at least some of them are non menthol.

i personally enjoy teh FUBAR line. nicotine rush has a samjpler pack for cheap. (i forget how much $) but it has a 10 g box of each type. i LOVE medic and grunt!

I would get a couple of gift paks of Wilsons of Sharrow snuffs. They have 6 5gram tins each and most have a plain, a scented some natural fruit and some menthols.

I also think Wilson’s of sharrow is a good way to sample snuff. It’s cheap, and almost all I’ve tried are actually pretty good. I would also recommend picking up a few McChrystal snuff’s, a little more expensive than Wilson’s, but IMO they are some of the best snuffs for beginners.

This is all good advice. Don’t be afraid to get a small sample of something,(except cow-dung, Pieter!) even if others say it doesn’t suit their taste. You may be passing up a favorite and never know it. That’s the sickness of it all!

try royal george by wilsons it’s a love or hate snuff but it’s interesting non the less

I hate Royal George because I love it so much.

Toque has a nice 10 tin deal if you want to try a good variety. I love his snuff!

Well being as you like Packard’s Club, I definetly recommend you try some McChrystal’s Original and Genuine, it’s a little stronger in the menthol department, but man it’s a great “I don’t know what I want” kind of snuff, The O&G is one snuff that loses it’s shine if it gets dried out. I agree that rooster is a little strong, as an alternative, get some Fribourg and Treyers High Dry Toast, i’ts a bit of a dive into the wallet for trying something out, but man you’ll love it, or go with wilson’s Irish High Toast 22, also very nice. Everyones suggestions here are great, start with some variety of wilson’s, and or then some Toques , and grab a wild card here and there. I read through reviews and descriptions to narrow it down for myself, Iv’e found some snuff’s i thought i would like didn’t quite turn out to be all that, so toss in a wild card here and there. My recommendatin is biased, as i have not tried many of the brands, but it’s good to have variety, so if your budget allows it, just pick up a whole bunch.! Pick up a Shmaltzer too, as a new snuffer this is one of the best dessert dark snuffs around.!

A warning about toasts. If you are not used to them they will make your eyes water. A little easier toast to start out on is Toque Whisky and Honey.

My suggestions for a newbie would be: Toque Original (plain SP type) Toque Natural (no flavouring just the good tobacco, delicious) Wilsons Of Sharrow Best SP (great SP) Poschl’s Gletcherprise (if you are doing Poschl, try their flagship snuff) Dholakia Sparrow cool and aniseed (can be a bit challenging with the grind but great snuffs) The thing with toasts, and US snuffs for that matter, is that they are great but not generally called a ‘beginners’ snuff. This is because you have to have your technique perfect as they can blow your head off. When you are really used to snuffing is the best time to try them otherwise your first memory of them is pain, and they are great snuffs. To be honest, you could have a million different combinations for a ‘newbie’ list - it’s best just to try as many as you can. And if you find it painful or just can’t get to grips with it we can usually guide folks through with the expertise here.

Bernard’s Schmalzlers

I agree with Xander on the WoS but also try some toque I have been waiting a while for them and have yet to get them I am going to make an order this weekend. Also I have to vouch for the McChrystals Original and Genuine It is an amazing snuff that will really get you to love snuff. Get a big tin because when I really started at the little 3.5g tin it was gone in no time flat and I am really missing the stuff.

Thanks all for the suggestions, placed an order for WoS gift pack and a small assortment of others. Thanks for the tips.

Toque Quit has become my favorite snuff. Pure Tobacco Taste and Non Clogging too. A perfect consistency. McChrystals O&G is arguably the finest Medicated Snuff out there and quite unique.
