I want to try a few more molens, the prince regent and gingerbread I’ve had from the old spice shaker box have been pretty dry. .and I’ve heard others say the same about other snuffs in the fermented Virginia and Latakia range . 1) which snuffs are supposed to be dry? 2) is the 100g tub from Mr snuff going to be fresh probably?
See, I’d like to try a few more of these but I cannot visit the low countries just now. I didn’t want to sidetrack the other de kralingse thread so this is my question: I don’t know if this is crass to inquire about due to mrsnuffs patronage of this place, but to be honest, sometimes you get dry stuff thru the mail. Sux because 1)it’s not as enjoyable, 2) It’s a disservice to the he maker becoz I never got to try his snuff properly 3)not lastly it’s a waste of money. I know some of these are not meant to be dry, was wandering what the moisture level is like from Mrsnuff in the ones you guys have tried.
@ Icepick: Our 30, 20 and 17,5 gram packages are meant to be consumed, not be kept for storage. The 100 g packages are packed in screw cap drugstore containers and I suppose they are more air tight than the others. To be sure you can always order directly from us.
Jaap Bes.
Yes. Get fresh snuff direct . Makes a world of difference. If you need to store . use small air tight glass jars and decant a few days worth into your snuff box of choice. You also can Hydrate any snuff to suit your comfort level. But dry tobacco often does lose scent from the original condition or moisture level. Always use distilled or purified water for best results . For the ultimate long term storage, invest in a vacuum food storage system and seal your bulk in usable 5-10 gram portions.
The Kralinger that I’ve tried thus far was bone dry, but still quite good. I still haven’t placed my order with Jaap… I really need to do so, so thanks for reminding me with this thread.
If they dry out, they are very easy to rehydrate. That said, even if are dry, they are all very good snuffs. I keep my 100 gram tubs in the fridge or freezer. When I use them, I leave them out for a few minutes so they get warm. I wouldn’t worry about it at all.
Yep the 100 gr tubs are awesome. I have some FCV 250 and it’s slightly moist. Very nice
I use mason jars for long term. A pint jar will hold about 100 grams. Found out by putting 100 gram bag of Sternecker in one. As for dry snuff, my first snuff ever was Superior from the local grocery store. American snuffs are very dry and I remember a lot of old ladies (my granny included) using these orally instead of as nasal snuff. Thor’s Hammer was the first really moist snuff I ever had.
Ive never had dry snuff come from mrsnuff or snuffstore. Even tapboxes I ordered seemed fairly fresh. Mysmokingshop on the other hand…I dont buy anything from there anymore.
Just a quick question about De Kralingse. Have they actually started packaging some of their snuff in plastic snuffboxes or is that just a marketing picture on Mr. Snuff? Its not a brand a buy often but when I want it I really want it lol, and was very interested by the pictures shown these days over the old clear plastic tap boxes.
Yes the new De Kralingse boxes are shaped like a snuffbox. I like them, but I’m not convinced they’re very airtight.
they’re not airtight…i think they’re designed to be used up fast…
the 100gr tubs are great though.
I bought the little plastic snuff boxes in my latest order. I have been very happy with them. I have yet to have one pop open while in my pocket. I took one in an attic today that I had to crawl around in. It remained closed. I have had other containers come open.
They are great snuff boxes. Not airtight by any means, but just the right size and shape. They are also reusable, so when you run out, you can put whatever you like into them. Much better than the old style boxes with those weird little lids.
