Man, i got this 2 days ago. It is dark (rather black), on the coarse side and semi-moist. The smell is like a hammer. I cannot clearly say what i smell, only that this is the first time i have a snuff with a smell like this. I am not sure if i like this snuff or not. Anyone else has comments on it ? What smell do you get ?

M

I love it. I think what you are detecting, though I could be wrong, is tonquin. Compare it to SG 1792 pipe tobacco…

P

@Mouse tonquin ? what is that ? my translator will not help me.

M

Tonka bean, has a vanilla-ish scent. Used a lot in pipe tobacco.

P

@Mouse Thank you! I heard the word here before, never knew what it was.

Back in the day, snuff takers would carry one in their snuffboxes to add a little flavour and it was thought that they also helped to preserve freshness.

I like the Elmo’s very much and I think the intensity of the tonquin flavour is really unique. I cannot take it the whole day and need something more plain in between, but after that I can enjoy the Reserve again and love it.

It not hell it heavenly, I don’t know what a dog has to do with it. Other then it died, and the owner requested a snuff to be made to honor his long time companion. I agree with mouse it is the 1792 flake in snuff form ;and if you smoke a pipe they pare perfectly together.

Maybe we become friends of the course of time.

I love tonka beans in my snuff. I’m glad I have a few.

I find the dog disconcerting as I pick up wet dog scents from this, if I think about it too hard. The dog, I believe was called Elmo and belonged to the gentleman who commissioned this blend. I think I read that somewhere. It is a great mixer, just a dash added to Fubar Grunt is amazing.
