Sometimes, when first trying a snuff, you either miss the point, or you have to get used to it, or the tin is stale or not sufficiently aired - I guess we’ve all been there. At other times, you simply get bored with a snuff that you’ve had too much of, or that doesn’t really set itself apart from the other snuffs in your stash. Sometimes you just forget a snuff, because there are so many other ones that are truly excellent. The surprising thng is that sometimes, when you pick up such a tin after a couple of days, weeks or months, you discover hidden aspects of the snuff that you hadn’t noticed before. Or you realise that you’ve done the snuff a great injustice and that it’s a classic (or a good loyal beast, or just ‘different’) after all. Hence this thread. Recently, I have rediscovered Grand Cairo (I liked Tom Buck so much that I didn’t take any other SP’s for a year and forgot all about Grand Cairo’s splendid bergamot hit). Also, I rediscovered Gawith Apricot, on a freezing cold day, and I could actually discern the tobacco in it and loved it, something I thought I’d never say. And you? What snuffs have you rediscovered? Or are there any that you plan to rediscover soon?
FUBAR Toasted! Ugh…recently traded 50g to acquire some Taxi Blue. Happy with the trade, but using some FUBAR Toasted tonight and I forgot that I actually like this stuff. I had put it aside, but it is really hitting the spot tonight!!
My scotches are always like this. I’ll order 100$ worth of fancy shmancy European and Indian and African snuffs and forget all about the 250g of scotch I have. But every now and then I’ll decide to grab a pinch of the scotch and I’m always pleasantly surprised at just how good they really are.
I do a rotation of the hundreds of snuffs I horde, and I am always resplendently happy when I come across an old friend.and there are constantly something new to explore. I had mentioned SG Black coffee and I should had kept my mouth shut, the entire world made it go out of stock. So I am not going to tell anyone my favorites starting now!
I broke out some F &T French Carotte tonight. Forgot what the scent was, but immediately found out it was sandalwood. I think it will go back where it was…lol
Picked up a small box of Dr. Rumney’s Export in Dortmund, on a weekend trip to Germany. Didn’t see any for years. I’d forgotten how pleasant it was, mild menthol. Not a classic but nice for a change. Unfortunately the beautiful little tap boxes with the rotating dispenser have been replaced by the bucket like box that Edel Prise also comes in. Sic transit gloria mundi.
Finally got round to filling my box with tom buck from the bulk container at the back of the cupboard and remembered why i got it in bulk, soft, smooth and beautifully fragranced and now I’m looking forward to taking it to work tomorrow.
As @basement_shaman states, having a ‘multitude’ of options, and gradually cycling through them, it is simply amazing how you can pick up new nuances, make new friends and periodically go ‘yech’. What a GREAT hobby!!!
My dark Burley Coriander snuff that could still stand a bit more age on it. I just can’t stop pinching from the now down to a mere twenty five grams.
Toque Spanish Gem, it had been languishing untasted in the back of my snuff drawer until this morning. It’s not fresh but it’s still tasty.

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve got a 500g tub of that which I need to transfer to smaller jars this morning, sampling as I go.
I’ve just rediscovered SP100. I came across a bulk jar that I’d misplaced and filled my snuffbox with it and can’t keep it out of my nose. Fallen in love all over again :-). Stefan
Silver dollar Apricot. Really good stuff without excessive menthol.
Found an orphaned box of Löwenprise in the dark backwoods of my stash. It’ll never be a favourite of mine, but every now and then I take some and enjoy its aniseed/liquorice-like aroma. Unfortunately I usually get bored pretty quickly with its oily-Pöschl-base-and-menthol onslaught. As an aside: why is it that we can only get four or five kinds of Pöschl in a city like Amsterdam, and not even a simple tin of O&G, for instance? Are all our tobacconists sleeping? Anyway, I’ll take another two or three toots of Löwenprise, then switch back to the grown-up stuff.
Rooster!
Hoggarth Spartan, suble tasty, very pleasant.
Honey Bee, haven’t used it for a while, it got pushed to the back of one of my snuff drawers. I’ll even “bottom lip” some of it today. :bz :bz :bz
Yesterday - Toque SP Extra. Mighty good snuff. Today - who knows??
Toque Quit, like an old friend that you don´t see often but you know it´s always there for you!
Yesterday - I tried some of my US sweet scotches - Honey Bee, De Voes, Society. They’re nice but don’t really do a whole lot for me. I like the designs of the cans though. Today - I am planning to reacquaint myself with Elmo’s Reserve and Smith’s Mix - an SG special blend for G Smith & Sons. But I have fresh tins of SG Honey & FT HDT competing for my nasal attention. Oh well, I could have worse problems.
The original and genuine McChrystals snuff. I know I tried it when I first started snuffing, over two years ago, and didn’t like it or any other menthols, at all. I got a fresh tin at the local tobacconist, today. What can I say? A deserved classic.
Toque Absinthe
Juxtaposer Woodruff Hanover
Toque Apricot from bulk, last night. I was getting chocolatey undertones which I’ve never noticed before. This snuff is just lovely and aging well.
Bayern Prise. I bought it last summer, I didn’t like it, so it’s been laying on the shelf for almost one year. But when I took it last night… well, maybe it must have been maturated. It’s more than good.
After reading about F&T HDT on here this will be in my next order
I had misplaced my tin of Whiskey and Honey for a week or two. I’ve been on a real Toast kick HDT, T Natural toast and WOS #22, When I stumbled upon it, I immediately re introduced myself to it, and it was all the better for the absence.
Rooster scotch snuff. When I joined this forum two years ago there was a lot of, er, buzz about Rooster and the amount of nicotine it has. Now people know that Bruton has more nicotine, at least unprotonated nicotine. Also, it’s been a while since it has been available online–Mr. Snuff doesn’t have any for sale (or Standard, or W.E. Garrett, or [sniff] Maccoboy). It’s a great snuff, though. I still prefer Three Thistle and Square, but the differences between them are pretty slight. I hope it’s still being made, if for no other reason than I love the can and the old slogans about it being mighty easy to get used to Rooster (in other words, it’ll blow your head off at first, but you’ll learn to love that explosion).
Dholakia White It brought tears to my eyes but a great nic blast.
Dholakia Taj I popped this in my first order, took one sniff and moved on. Fast sorward a few months and here I am bored, so I take a sniff. Astounded at what I had brushed off I take to ms.com and ready my nose for a tour of indian snuffs to see what else I may be missing!
F&T HDT Probably the best snuff I have tried.I use to like the american scotches but this has far more depth and a great nic hit I can now see why its a firm favourite with so many members on here
Hedges L.260 Overdid this when I was just getting started and went off menthol. Watching telly last night I was looking through my stash and gave it a go - fortunately I’ve still got most of the tin left as I have fallen for this all over again.
F&T Bordeaux. I find a lot of the F&Ts are similar (Dr. J, Bureau and Princes’s Special are all similar to Bordeaux, though slightly different of course); however, for me the balance of Bordeaux is just right. My bottle is about two years old, but it’s still a wonderful snuff when I’m in the mood for something scented.
McCrystals Anisette hydrated with endemic wormwood leaves. It’s bittersweet, reminiscent of absinthe. This certainly can no longer be called “Anisette”. Highly recommended.
Ntsu Black. Still with that barnyard aroma but much toned down. Very soothing…
Gletcherprise Hmmm it is good.
Sparrow Cool I forgot how much I like this fine snuff,And it really delivers a great nicotine hit :x
Toque quit it was one of the first snuffs I tried.I use to mix it with dok white but I have to say I prefer it on its own.
Dholakia Aniseed menthol - well balanced ,and I am not a fan of Aniseed, but this I can handle as the hotter weather creeps in I use more mentholated snuff. It’s a cooling sensation!
Dholakia White, which is why I’m hicupping at the moment.
Dholakia Black. Earthy/barnyard goodness
Samuel Gawith Richt Kind - still an real enigma
Irish High Toast No. 22 It’s like the potential of the American scotches realized. Much smokier than F&T HDT. And much better than SG Irish D Light.
6Ph Cheeta, wonderful snuff
Klostermischung, got a tub of this 6 months ago and hated it. Its now my favourite Snuff!
I took some aromatic light burley pipe baccy, ground her up, with a little eucalyptus essential oil dded and came out with a nice snorter. Not really a menthol. The essential oil adds a little moisture to the dried out tobacco… Is good. no? I must get more good essential oil scents for more experimentation.
Oddly enough it was WoS Chocolate Orange. Much more chocolate than I remember, and yes, I could detect orange in the background. Really did not care for it the first time around. Much better nowl
