Recently I watched the movie again and noticed that brad pitt used snuff. He is from MISSOURI where i reside so I am sure he is quite familiar with the scotches hereabouts. I heard it was one of the Poschl tap boxes with a brown case. I thought it looked more like the french snuff box I bought in gulfport ms back in 74…(damned ex wife got it,darn her!) anyhow…what kind was it and where did the brown snuff tap box poschl go???
Ju st saw it, not a tap box, hinged french style. White wood or maybe bone?? really nice. I want it.
There was a discussion regarding this snuffing scene a while ago but as I recall no one thought he was actually using snuff just pretending to.
He might have used Rumney’s snuff in the movie, but I clearly remember him taking it out of a flip-top wooden snuffbox, not out of a plastic dispenser.
Further, the movie shows him pinching out of the box, which is patently impossible from a tap out dispenser.
So its a fake.
This won’t answer any question here, but it may raise a new one. Watch very carefully the first half second of this vid, right after the intro as it fades in (0:07 mark): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3\\_r2hgj5-F0&feature=fvwrel
Just looks like a rub of the nose. I see what your getting at, he could be using snuff but from the looks of it, I think he’s just scratching his nose. If Brad Pitt, one of the worlds biggest celebs, was taking snuff I think word would get out because it’s such an uncommon hobby.
yep i agree with @giaach . i paused it went frame by frame a few times althou it did look like his eyes where watering a bit …
I don’t care if Brad Pitt is enjoying snuff. I am enjoying both, Brad Pitt and Snuff.
He got the snuff from one of the German soldiers who they questioned in the beginning of the movie… So it shouldent be French? I happen to have taught about the same subject many times
@Uwe Nice line, same for me. Great stuff to use, great actor to watch.
Film is located in France, so french snufbox makes sense.
@Uwe yeah, my fiance enjoys Brad Pitt a whole lot too…
I had heard he was from MISSOURI, and down here we grow an awful lot of BURLEY tobacco. ONE of the places that have tobacco warehouses and auctions is nearby WESTON MO…i have been there quite a few times and trust me…lots of tobacco is grown hereabouts. he may be one of those folks who use tobacco, but do not chew or smoke…he uses SNUFF!
Roderick you can tell me. I’ll convince them to be proud of it. The things a listers have risked I’d believe he’d take that risk. In fact the only thing keeping him back is that lady of his (hint hint Roderick if you seduce her and ruin their relationship he’ll admit his snuff use [it’s for the greater good of snuffdom, so it isn’t really mean and wrong to do]).
additionaly he’s got the snuff smile at the begining of that video.
In the video above I don’t think he’s using snuff. In the movie he does 3 times.
The snuff in the movie is most likely to be german snuff as he takes it off a dead german soldier. The actual snuff Brad Pitt used is apparently Toque Peanut butter as wikianswers points out but I doubt it as it’s the only source of that claim. I also doubt it’s Rumneys export.
Probably just a german make for the film, most likely menthol from his reaction, in real life it could be any other if he even used real snuff at all on set.
Here’s the snuff and box in question :
I 99.99% doubt he used snuff on camera in the film. Did anyone see any snuff? What I saw is an actor pinching his fingers together in a snuffbox and then sniffing audibly off of those fingers very quickly. Its called acting.
What next are you gonna tell us all the nazis they killed didn’t really die? I don’t see though why it couldn’t be snuff for real. Side note in movies if you see someone smoking a cigarette it’s probably prickily lettuce which the smoke from looks more like cigarette smoke on film then does actual cigarette smoke. Just a side note.
Plus if it was real snuff he might blow the take just to have an excuse to get another pinch.
You know what is real?

“Acting isn’t pretending, acting is doing”. If he was a good actor he would embrace the activity of snuffing and for the sake of the character and the moment he would actually take snuff in the scene. That being said, I kind of doubt he really did take snuff in the scene but it’s still cool to ponder. I’ll have to ask him one day…

It really all depends on what school of acting he prescribes to. There are dozens of highly respected methods and they all advocate for different methods when needing to create an action, or to create the illusion of the action.
Touché haha
somehow I have been misquoted
