I mostly use a spoon , I just take a pinch when the snuff form little rocks and when you try to snuff from the spoon it falls out lol

I prefer the back of the thumbnail, and the first finger together to make a spoon, it seems to restrict the airflow so it doesn’t end going to far up the nose. I think its called the boxcar… but am not sure. Otherwise, I use a spoon for certain kinds and anything that cant be tapped out of my dispenser.

Yes it is the boxcar. I don’t care for it much. I always get the snuff into the creases of my thumb and, forefinger.

Actually this is the boxcar. I fail to see how a freight car of a train has anything to do with taking snuff, I call it thumbnailing because that’s exactly what it is. I don’t know who started using the term boxcar but I’m willing to bet it was someone who likes playing with model trains. spoon is the only way. I’ve had several spoons and the stainless steel mr snuff one is great. The price is right and the size and shape are good. I get a better scent profile with the spoon.

My favourite method is to put it up my nose!! Coarse snuffs get backhanded, freight trained or spooned…or pinched. LOL Same with fine snuffs. It all depends on what I’m doing, where I am, what kind of container it’s in, how blocked my nose is…too many variables.

I always assumed that the term “Boxcar” had more to do with the way you put your fingers when you do it (index finger around the thumb finger) resembling a boxcar coupling. Anyway I mostly pinch using my middle finger and thumb to do it, makes a great difference in the quantity that you can pinch.

So what’s this “Box Car” method …is it circle the end of your thumb with your finger, tap in the snuff onto the thumb nail, then sniff from the nail… ?

OK been goggling this, so its the “Boxcar” method… Odd name…(I did not know what a box car was) But it works for me! less mess and seems to go into the right place with less mess than my pinching … Those Mr Snuff plastic boxes come nicely equipped for either method … Though a small bottle may be on my next order…

I have changed to double piles on the back of the hand one for each nostril.

Before it was just one nostril at a time off the back of the hand. I like how the snuff hits both nostrils at once.

It largely depends on the snuff and sometimes how its packaged. Most times I use the pinch as it allows me to control flow, though I am sometimes relegated to the “boxcar” with tap boxes and tall containers. Not a huge back of the hand user.

I usually have dirty fingers so I have to use a spoon and, back of the hand. or just spoon if I am in a hurry.

Lately I’ve been using a long folded, narrow, small piece of paper to deposit a little onto the back of my hand. If I dig my fingers around in a snuff-tin it will start go go off unless I use it within a couple weeks.

You might want a snuff spoon or a pipe tool @Horus92. They are not super expensive. My pipe tool was about $2. If your prefer the paper more power to you though. Go paper!

I just would worry about being a place with out paper.

I use my thumbnail to scoop as a spoon and sometimes go into a loose boxcar after the scoop. Great for all grinds. Clean too. most spoons are too small IMO.

I think the Czech pipe tool could get that much. My have to dig a little. I have never had a Snuff only spoon.

Pinch especially for those medicated snuffs to warm the oils, and boxcar for the others.

I pinch most often, followed by boxcar, and then spoon. Many years ago I used the back of hand method but almost never do these days–I have more control with the previously mentioned methods but still like the back of hand. And l like to use snuff boxes (especially those with built in taps), as well as bullets, tins, and I really like those titanium vials. Oh hell, I pretty much like everything! :-bd

I pinch, or box car, maybe a spoon for a moist snuff so as not to compact with pinching,depends on where I am and the snuff …Those little stainless steel flasks, designed for 1oz of spirit are great little boxes, keeps the snuff moister for longer

Just tried the rolled up bit of paper method with Viking Dark. I like it better than off the back of the hand for now. Thinking of getting a snuff straw so I can wash it after use.

Agree fully with @Bob. The scent profile seems much better with a spoon and the mrsnuff stainless steel spoon is a great tool. If I misplace it, I usually look round til I find it rather than taking a pinch. I hardly use any other method.

I do pinch under three situations. While taking a walk, if my nose is supper clear, and with snuff that is too moist like my 6 photo bulk (which it’s more then freshiness going on to make bulk the best bet, cause even if you dry it out it still has a better scent profile).

I’ve noticed that the best way for me is to snuff it off the back of my hand. Even if it comes out of a tin or box, I take a pinch and then place it on my hand. That is the space behind my thumb.

I’m getting to the point I have to use a demi-tasse spoon.

The more experienced I get the more often I’m pinching. I did wonder if this would happen.

@Thunderbird‌ Me to, I have done away with the idea of a bullet now… Pinching it is for me, thinking of a spoon for my moister snuffs though , I only really use those at home in the evenings

@Derek_007‌ That’s a good point, I haven’t used my bullet for ages. In fact I was bought a lovely wooden snuff box which I’ve been using recently, keeps the snuff reasonably fresh for a day or two. Only used Viking Blond in it so far, that snuff is rapidly becoming my ‘out and about,’ easy to pinch snuff.

I started a week ago pinching. But quickly switched to a spoon. I feel like I waste a lot of snuff when I pinch. It’s probably all in my head though.

I went back to the pinch after watching so youtube yesterday. I think there’s better control with the pinch. And the slight warm up brings out flavor. I can’t wait for the mr snuff order to come in.
