As you know I have been searching for my method and the perfect snuffs. I like the Bernards grind, but sometimes it’s too coarse. I recently opened a can of Wilson’s Apricot and it’s the PERFECT consistency for me. The Apricot is a wonderful snuff, the fruit flavor stays a while and fades to a lovely tobacco scent. I want some of this without the apricot scent, just the tobacco. What other brands/flavors will have the same grind/moisture? I prefer non menthol.
Bigmick, I would just stick with Wilson’s if you enjoy the grind and moisture content. To me it’s the perfect brand to experiment with flavors, they have tons of flavors and the price is right. Most of their grinds are fairly similar, with the exception of their toasts. I’ve now had about 15-20 wilsons varieties and only found 2 that I didn’t really enjoy. Happy Snuffing!
Yeah, I see the Wilson’s grind is close across the brand, Tom Buck being on my favs list, but the Apricot just seems, well, fluffier…
The next obvious choice is Toque. They use a standard base in most of the snuffs which is very similar to Wilsons and there is now a rapidly expanding group of flavours. Aside from the toasts and the high nicotine ‘Quit’, they all have a medium mill and nicotine content. If you liked the Wilsons Apricot, there are several fruit or floral snuffs, all easy to take and milled like the Wisons. Toque is an essential part of the modern snuff scene and in many respects they are similar to Wilsons. As part of a collection they really complement the Sharrow snuffs and I often blend Wilsons and Toque snuffs together. Im a die hard Wilsons fan but Toque is a great addition to my snuffing enjoyment,
I love Toque. But to me the grind is finer than this particular Wilson’s, and harder to take… Maybe the Toque I have is to dry, but there is a difference.
I find many of the Samuel Gawith snuffs are the easiest snuffs to take - they are quite fluffy. I also find the Gawith Hoggarth snuffs easy to take (although they have a more nicotine and nose burn). As for Toque and Wilsons - they are quite similar in grind and moisture, but I usually add extra moisture to these as I love the flavours but find they sometimes hit my throat. I think everyone has their own personal preferences.
Ok so how do I add moisture, without ruining the snuff?
I’ve never tried it with snuff, but I’ve moisturized other vegetable materials by bringing it in when taking a hot shower and leaving the container open.
What about a small room with a running humidifier?
Wilson’s Rum & Blackberry
Carol, I don’t trust myself enough to shower with my snuff. LOL Tom, No humidifier in the house. Bigblue1, Thanks! Xander, Ohhhhhh! Rum & Blackberry…
I moisturise snuff by tipping the contents out into a shallow tray and add drops of water whilst mixing with a fork until the snuff is consistent and without lumps. I don’t know if this is the right way to do it, I just used my own initiative and it seems to work. I do this to my Wilsons Thyme and Lemon and Toque Original and Natural to make them easier to take.
bigmick, I never actually showered with the material I was adding moisture to. Just in the same room with the container open. The steam from the shower did the trick.
I find the rose of sharrow very similar and that the rose scent dies down faster making for a more tobaccoy scent after it’s been in the nose a minute. Swear it’s the excate same grind as the apricot.
Bige Mick: Keep snuff in an airtight container - I use WoS cannisters - and your snuff will never dry out. The containers that snuff comes in in small amounts - small tins, flip tops etc - are never 100% airtight. The best way, I’ve found, is to have a well filled snuff box. With a larger quantity the snuff insulates itself. However, I use up to 10g a day so a well filled snuff box works for well for my useage. If you take less, then the old, standard advice of putting in the box only what you will use over the day holds true.
Snuffster, I have recently, thanks to advice here, started keeping my tins in airtight containers. One for plain, one for menthol. I purchased a set of Tupperware canisters for just this purpose. I only have out a few smashboxes with what I rotate daily. I only use 2-3 grams a day, and I like variety , right now I carry a least two snuffs out the door.
way to go Bigmick
Thanks. I can learn, it just takes a while some days.LOL
