Ok fellow snuff heads I have a problem thats kinda bothering me. I have been using snuff daily for the past 2 months without a single problem. I went and bought a netipot for a nightly or every now and then nasal cleanse. Today thoguh I woke up and started with my usual Toque Original on the way to work and man it burned sooo bad, almost unbearable and made my eyes water. So i switched to Spanish Gem later. same thing. I very painful sting and so i havent snuffed since. Any possible causes??? Im fiending for a pinch but I know it wont be enjoyable and im worried whats wrong because ive I said ive been been snuffing everyday for 2 months no problems til now. : (
Sounds like your nasal rinsing solution is too strong or maybe you’re using chlorinated tap water. Might try using plain filtered water w/o salt etc. instead.
My feeling - and it is just a feeling, I stand to be corrected - is that the neti pot is washing away the slight mucous covering in your nose, which acts as a barrier when you take snuff. Obviously, a lot of people are using these things but Ive been snuffing for 30 years and never done anything apart from the occasional blow. If you were taking snuff without problems before the neti pot I would go back to that. Clearly there are people who benfit from them for one reason or another, but if, like me, you can snuff happily without one I don’t think you are getting any benefit by changing your routine. The thing is we are all individual, you might not need to use it at all.
I just use the netipot when I feel like it, before bed. I really don’t think it does much.
I haven’t used a neti pot in quite a while. I think my nose is used to the snuff by now. Just lay off of the neti for a few days and see what happens.
I have been having a similar problem recently and i neti pot as well i would describe the sensation as a malicious burn but after about ten large heaps of snuff the sensation calms down and as the day progresses it goes completely leading me to believe it is not serious. The answers given so far could well be correct but i believe mine is due to the allergy medication i take at this time of year.
I found if I did not dissolve the saline completely, the little granules would become lodged in my sinus, and I would sneeze and sneeze and sneeze and sneeze some more… It was unpleasant. So now if I use the netipot, I make sure to start with HOT water to dissolve the stuff, then add cold to get it lukewarm.
Forgive me, but what on earth is a “neti pot”???
I love my neti. I’d reccomend it even to non snuff takers. I breathe so well after using it, and I don’t even have breathing issues. Make sure you use the right kind of salt though, and don’t do it more than once a day. You do need to let your mucosa refresh itself. Mine came with good instructions. If you need them, I’ll post a scan. Using without salt and it will burn while using it. I tried once. It felt like getting your kayak tipped over.
I actually may just use it every now and again. Its a nice tool but the instruction insist you not use it if your clogged up, which is wierd, but it does work well for what it is. Not a huge investment but it sure ruined my snuffing the other day. I honestly think its because I got a lil tipsy when my friends from college cme into town and I had used it that morning and showed them again that evening so my nose was pretty damn dried out. Im not knocking it but i will definately make sure I use it as the instructions insist and no more. It is a different feeling though, its like drowning… but healthier…lol. ( Throw that in the out of context page… ; ) …lol)
Try using in the evening instead of morning. That way your nose will moisten up while you are sleeping and not snuffing. Then by morning you will have a nose that is just right with no old snuff residue in it, taking up valuable real estate for the day’s new snuff!
I like to skip the Netipot and go to the easy drug store nasal saline. I use Simply Saline.
I don’t use an of that stuff. I just blow my nose and pick the rest
I like the simply saline as well but use it pretty rarely. Generally the steam in the shower does the trick.
Firstfoorfront - Wow - it looks like a 2nd century AD Roman oil lamp :o))))))
