What does the "photo" in the Indian snuff companies names mean?

Just curious about that.

I think I figured it out…

Please let us know @ChipSnuff, but I seem to remember that some folks in India prefer to refer to something by it’s picture rather than it’s name. " I’ll take the one with the 6 photos on it."

Count the number of photographs on the package, and you will soon figure it out.

The representative from six photo explained this, India still has a lot of illiteracy and certainly did at the turn of the 20th century when the first snuff factories opened so the number of photos on the tin was the identifier of brands. The “photo” nomenclature stuck hence “41 photo” etc.

@horus92 is right, It is in an interview in the snuff taker’s ephemeris.

41 thousand words is what White elephant is worth.

Thanks for the info. Yeah, I saw a reference to the 6 photos on the 6P brand etc.

I may be crazy and I never even bought any 6P yet on my new snuff journey but… I have been assuming the name of the indian *Photo snuffs comes from the container! Isn’t it like those old plastic tubs you used to get camera film in? I assumed the photos on the side were just a take on this original reason they call them photo! Just guessing… but my tub of Dholakia Swiss Chocolate looks very much like half a plastic tub you used to buy film in…

My Dholakia African looks just like a can of dip. I saw a reference to an advertisement that said something like “trust the one with 6 photos” so I’m inclined to believe what @Horus92 @Xander and @JohnnyFriday are saying is true.
