What do you think of this kind of Snuff Box?

Was just looking on ebay the other day and saw this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wentworth-Touchmarked-High-Quality-Pewter-Snuff-Box-Plain-Lid-/191529198644?hash=item2c9807a434

Is this something you would use?

I was thinking of using it to empty McChrystal’s tins into as the lids on them don’t close tightly (they lift apart easy)

And also, not just for storage but for carrying in the pocket

this one has more pictures of the hinge in operation and the interior, the only difference being the design on the lid.

I have the one RCastle showed and they are table top snuffboxes, they are too big and heavy to be carrying around in your pocket and the lids don’t lock tight so you’d end up with a pocket full of snuff but leave it on a table top and they are attractive and functional pieces.

That’s a table box, mr snuff sells the same ones (or similar) it will be way too big for a pocket box. Air is the enemy, you don’t want a lot of open space in your suffbox. Just enough space to store snuff for a day’s use or it will dry out.

Ooops :open_mouth:  Good catching that. OhKay, guess I’ll keep looking. I wish i could find one like that pocket sized though.

Ok so i found a silver Snuffbox online to bid on for only a starting bid of one dollar. It’s  got a week left on it , i hope i can get it cause its a type I would really love to own ( about the size and shape of a match box and hinged on the long side…oh and yes…made sure to be certain of the size

Just bought 3 of these on ebay.

McSnuffy, they look cool but I cant view the listing with the ebay adress you gave (not the buyer or seller error message)

Here is a wood box 200 yrs old cheap http://www.ebay.com/itm/Inlaid-Victorian-Rosewood-snuffbox-pillbox-Sailboat-pewter-silver-/201521668916?hash=item2eeba0a334:g:MEUAAOSwX~dWi~8I

@basement very nice.  But I am way too careless and clumsy to give an item 200 years old a proper home.

@basement_shaman, that’s cool but I wouldn’t think it would be tight enough to carry in pocket.

@RCastle,  try this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/3X-1-25-x1-Metal-Aluminum-Stash-Storage-Case-Snuff-O-Ring-SEAL-Air-Water-Tight/391390531364?\_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850&\_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D35696%26meid%3Dabab2248598c4bdcae2c8ed49a4fbfae%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D2%26sd%3D391383662259

Here is the one I am going for

It’s a similar style but without the possibility of destroying a 200 year old antique.

McSnuffy thank you, will definitely put that on my watch list

@RCastle that looks like a good box. @basement_shaman has given very good advice in the past about how to keep wooden boxes like that one in good condition.

Just lost my chance at this beauty:

Too bad. Very nice looking box.

For carry, I only want a sealed container (good tap boxes like poschl/bernard, Toque screw tops).  I have had numerous WOS style tins open while inside my pockets.

That size is roughly equal to how I fill my couch-side snuff container. I would assume it can hold 25g, which will last me about a week when at home (3 hours a night on weekdays, 5 on weekends or 25 waking hours).  I leave mine uncovered, and it holds a snuff’s scent until used.

IDK, does that help?

yeah I love the ones with all the details nicely popping through the beautiful layer of silver oxide.

I just use the rococo boxes from mr snuff. If you gorilla glue the slide It really makes 'em airtight for pinching.

I’ve got 2 solid silver tins, hallmarked 1911 and 1913, both used on a daily basis, and a solid brass from the early 1900s that I need to repair before using. Sorry I haven’t figured out how to post piccies yet
